Eh, it's pretty hard for people to judge how well or how poorly we traded without knowing which rumours were bullshit and what attempts were made.
From what I can see, we walked in to trade week with very little currency, with Mckinley and Spangher being our primary potential exports. We also had pertinent list space considerations. Consequently we didn't walk away with much.
That trade with Collingwood was clever though, should serve us well when guys like Glass, Embley, Kerr and Cox retire and we need to fill their spots in the coming years.

Club has confirmed what we pretty much knew: we'll be using 4, 26, 28 + 62 on Brennan.

Another player can still be be delisted or retire after the ND to give us another pick in the PSD - just like Stenglein did - means salary in next years cap - no room for Stevenson at this stage

3 picks ND
1 PSD ?
3 Rookies

i suck at rookie list/draft rules. are we able to pick stevenson up in the rookie draft again?

Thank you someone with a brain posted

when do clubs with compo picks have to nominate them. realistically our pick 28 could be in the thirties. anyone shine some light on this
Before the start of the season

The way I see it, we have 3 free list spaces. To be used on Picks 4, 26 and 28. Then if we delist Spangher as expected, we've opened up another list space for Jacob Brennan. Then if we delist Hansen and Bones, we have enough list space for our PSD pick and for Stevenson to be upgraded.

Only problem is Hansen and Bones are contracted for 2011, so we'd have to pay our their salary for next year as well if they are delisted/retire.

Technically, 28 is committed to Brennan at the moment if we were to keep the Spang. Delisting him (which we will do) allows us to use 62 or whatever it is on Brennan.

Point is, the Brennan pick is committed.

What does this mean for Spangher?
He now knows that no other clubs are interested in him. If he goes back to Vic, his AFL career may well be over.

Spangher may well want to stay in Perth now. I still think that he may well become a damaging player.

I believe so. Guess we will have to wait and see if any other clubs take him, otherwise I would imagine the club would re-rookie him, and possibly elevate him when the time is right...

For my mind if spangher is still there at our first rookie pick i'd jump. This could well be the spark that hits home in him being 100% focussed on footy as a career. You'd think though if he's not taken in the ND that he'll be one of gws rookie picks. They literally risk nothing in doing it.

Spangher will be 24 when next season starts. He has been on our list 5 full seasons (drafted in 2005) and he is a crab. He cant defend one on one well enough to be a lock down defender and his poise and skills arent good enough to play the loose man, attacking role. Shows glimpses but his bad always undoes the good ...

Just not quite good enough ...

Hanging onto "nearly" players is what shit sides do ...

Well I admit I am confused at some of the reasoning behind our decisions lately and without the very learned people in here ( who I think sometimes find logic where there is none ) I would be totally clueless...thanks.

Having said that I think its about time Worstfold actually did the right thing by the supporters of this club and actually explain publicly his reasoning behind some of the startling decisions he has made and in the process stop/slow the now constant criticizing of his moves.

That smug smile and constant lying coming from his mouth when ever he is being interviewed by the mainstream media does nothing but make me think he is totally and utterly clueless.

I didn't think you could delist a contracted player? Could be wrong, but I didn't think it was possible. They can reitre (i.e. be encouraged to call it quits on their own behalf), but that means they can't be picked up by other clubs in PSD.

EDIT: Deleted bit regarding GWS picks, thought it was regarding GC.

Spangher has made his own bed to be honest. WC may give him a lifeline but he hasn't shown loyalty so it's a tricky one. If he did become the "dominant" player that I think he can - he'd probably do a tarrant and leave via the new free agency rules.

Nathan Brown may well be a future target for the eagles. Collingwood trading for Tarrant would piss me off if i was Nathan. One for the future. Free agency will be very good for the Eagles as all the players are being treated well and it's an attractive work environment. (ladder position is variable).

Stop sooking you sookie la la's

Get a grip, I sick of all the sooking on this board.
Wah Wah Wah I want my mummy.

I say this because I read this thread a lot and it's been too negative lately.
First I want to say is that we did good in trade week.
Because this year finishing last, we would of got rip off anyway.
McKinley for pick 86 is your example.

We have a young list- the youngest so have some patients and wait to we climb at least to 9th or there about's and then lets do some trade's. We will stooge them when our teams value rises.:) trust me that's the smart thing to do.

Like what Woosha said toughen up princesses.
