Obviously we are more focused on finals at the moment, but in a week draft with the top 8 being mostly good midfielders, I think the crows need to find a way to secure a gun midfielder preferrably Ebert or Palmer.

The western bulldogs need a KPP and/or ruckman/come forward. I suggest we trade our first round pick (ie pick 10-13) to the bullies along with McGregor and/or Meesen for their pick 5. It is only then that we'll be able to secure a gun midfielder in the mold of Ebert, Palmer, or Masten.

Thoughts??? Is this a fair and gettable trade?

I have no reservations sending McGregor and our first round pick for a top five pick (even pick 5 itself as you say) because we know what we get with McGregor. I see danger in packaging Meesen though because we've no idea what heights he will reach. I'd almost want a first rounder just for Meesen, or another young player.

Agree we should look into securing a real early pick though; it's time we had access to the more obvious talents instead of trying to strike gold with late picks as we do (which we've done great with, but geez it's so much easier with a top five pick).

Gee that's an interesting package. It's not without risk (Meesen may end up a great running ruckman and if we have as many talls injured as this year we may miss Kenny's back-up) but having said that I'd do it for sure.

Is it fair? I think WB are the only obvious option for this trade as Richmond and Carlton unlikely to give up pick 2 or 3, Melbourne don't need these types of players desperately enough for their pick. Bulldogs next in line and they are the one lower ranked club that could rocket up the table with a solid tall forward and emerging ruckman to compliment their talented mid-sized brigade. Seems a perfect fit both ways but i just wonder if they will baulk at pick 5. Love to hear what Bulldogs fans think, have you posted it on their board?

Meesen and McGregor (and maybe Mattner and Jericho) are our most tradeable assets.

The Bullies have a heap of running players but a crippling lack of ruckmen and key forwards.

To me they look the ideal trade partners for Meesen and McGregor and without going into the deatails of it such as draft pick adjustments etc, IMO should be prepared to give up their first round pick to fill these holes.

That would position us nicely to get either Brad Ebert or a quality running on-baller in the draft, which has to be our priority this year, but certainly not the Bullies.

Trades have to be a win-win for both parties and IMO this would be.

The dogs would not trade for any of your KPP they are all the same old type, the dogs want something special not some average player that will get the oppositions no1 defender each week and get smashed.. FFS cannot wait to c you at the G this week with Dids,Fraser,Rusling and Presti back in the side.

Macca that all makes a lot of sense to me ....and I can that being a realistic scenario

I think our tradeable players who would attract some interest and decent returns are Ken McGregor, John Meesen, Martin Mattner, Luke Jericho and Scott Stevens, and despite everybody's opinion that this is a weak draft, I believe that this may provide us with an opportunity to trade for some first round and early second round picks to replenish our midfield stocks.

None of those names scare me.... except Presti, he's a gun. :thumbsu:

You idiot lazyboy!!!!

Youve had too much sun.

you are on the wrong board:eek::eek::eek:

Just on the subject of trades, I went to the Port match at AAMI stadium last night and ran into one of my contacts.

He says that the AFC players up for trade will be Meesen Jericho and McGregor.

He claims that Meesen and Jericho to Carlton is a done deal, with a lot of interest in McGregor from Freo, Carlton, Richmond and the Bullies.

Apparently a bit of a rift has developed between McGregor and Craig with K-Mac feeling that he is getting a poor deal from Craig.

Mattner is a possible but unlikely trade, unless we get very good value for him.

So, it looks like we will be very active in this year's draft, with Craig reluctantly accepting that it's a necessary part of developing a footy team.

Targets appear to be a good mid-fielder or a draft pick low enough to snare Brad Ebert.

Interesting times ahead.

If we give off Jericho and Meesen would it also include our 1st round selection?

Carltons will be 19 or whatever, that would suck.

We can't get #3, I very much doubt that

Agree but the thing is you're not going to get a first round pick for him because he really hasnt shown anything, especially at afl level. He may turn out to be really special but lets be honest here, his trade value is way down right now, definitely below how good he could and may be in the future. I think if we can hold onto him we're going to do much better in the long run.

Don't blame Kenny for feeling that way.

Jericho & McGregor for J Waite?
No joke, as if Kenny is not in our best 22 players. I guess its structure but you'd still feel a bit peeved off, after all the favours they did Perrie when he was playing poo and he got kept in the side week after week, now McGregor is playing really well in SANFL after being in or close to our best each week he played in the crows this year and he cant get a game  Sure, who do you drop? but it stinks of favouritism (not that I'd ever be guilty of such a thing ;)).
It hurts but the trade mentioned above would be gold, I would cry myself to sleep for a year though, can feel the tears welling up just thinking about it.

If you manage that, it would be a steal.
Agreed, but Carlton seem to rate Jericho for some reason from what I keep hearing also Kenny is suprisingly highly thought of over that way (its all relative of course). Still, yes it would be close to steal of the century ...if only Waite played for Freo, would be a done deal and they'd probably throw in Pav.

Just a quick question, is Meesen still under contract or does it end this year. This might also determine his trade value, if he is still contracted & there is enough interest he may get a slightly higher draft pick than if he is uncontracted.

Not sure, but I think he's out of contract at the end of this year. You want him for the number 2 pick? He's tall and stuff.

Definitely out of contract. Signed on for 1-year at the end of 2006.

How can it stink of favouritism if you can't find anyone for Ken to replace?? He has just been a victim of injury. When he ws in this year he has marked well but lacked pace, maybe due to his own injury. But Nick Gill has made it hard to replace him. The only spot for Kennie is where Roo is playing and his return has effectively cut him out. Bock and Stevens have made the back spots safe so there is no room for Ken. Sorry.

Anyone swung by the Richmond Board and seen their opinion of Kenneth? A real head shaker.

He's exactly the sort of player they've been screaming out for since Gas' knees went.

But Richmond supporters are even more fickle than Winkie Dink. :D:p

I wouldn’t worry about their opinion on anything player related unless it has a PP before that players name.
