No - Geelong has the best defense in the league.

Which somes from having the best midfielders, winning contests in the middle.

We would consider trading Rutten because you have to give up something of value in order to get something of value. And Rutten is finding the numbers of forwards that he suits lessening with each year, as the game moves away from gorilla power forwards.

Apart from the very best forward in the entire competition - Buddy Franklin!!!!!

I just heard a small rumour around town that a three way trade that includes Adelaide, Melbourne and Fremantle is being discussed. Rumour has it that Freo are after Griffen to replace Warnock who is heading back to Vic. Apparently the trade could look something like this

Fremantle Melbourne Adelaide
Warnock Plus 37 to Sylvia Plus 19 to Griffen Plus 28

Each team Gains
Fremantle - Griffen + Pick 28
Adelaide - Sylvia + Pick 19
Melbounre - Warnock + Plus 37

Stay tuned

I would do that deal.

what's more it makes sense for all sides.

Fact is the Melbourne coach (Bailey), would mind losing pick 19. he has already said that it won't be used in a trade.

ignoring the fact the we really don't know either way, do you really think your club discloses with all honesty its trading positions in the media?

that's pretty dumb to think that what the coach says in public is the 100% definitive version of their policy.

I saw an interesting trade in the MLB earlier this year, and the manager came out explained the trading of 2 prospects he said were untouchable "I didn't expect to trade them, but I didn't expect to be offered the chance at that kind of player..."

which is exactly what Bailey would say if pick 19 were traded for anything...

spot on. we gave up 20 goals to collingwood.

also true. if it doesn't hurt, then you're not getting anything good back either.

However may be willing to trade Mark Williams as have heard he does not get along well with Clarko - don't exactly see eye to eye.

We need another quality backman which you guys have plenty of would like the Bock Dog and don't sell Rutten short as i think he is still absolute quality.

I could see us bringing in Mitch Thorp next year which may solve our backline dilemma but he is more known as a forward.

Will trade Tim Boyle for a hotdog with sauce. If i push the deal i will hold out for cheese as well.

wILLIAMS HAS RECENTLY ONLY SIGNED A TWO YEAR DEAL

It's not so much Williams wanting out but rather Clarko not liking him. I have a feeling that we may end with with Mundy from Freo as Willo is a WA boy. However, that said he did sign for 2 more years so maybe Clarko and Willo will make the best of each other.

This was in my post on page 4 of this thread.

Actually with that article coming out today on Mundy it seems to be a rather insightful comment.

Would definitely consider this offer, however he wouldn't be a solution to our problems, from what I've seen he's a quality 3rd tall style option, but not a lot more, decent player, but not sure he's what we are really after.

We don't need another one of them, and definitely not for our second rounder.

Why trade for players at all... All this talk about trading for a forward. Crows have Walker is coming through, Seller also. Tippet is getting better and moran wins my vote...

Hawthorns star forwards in roughhead and franklin both debuted when they were 18, and given game time, in 2 years they have became stars. IMO, put 2 years into Walker and Moran as key forwards, and forward line issues solved.

And leave rutten alone... His year wasnt horrible by any standard, he wasnt at his best either. His AA year, our midfield was all experience and class, and the ball didnt get down to rutten as much. We had the best defense in the comp, and 4 of the 6 AA were adelaide I think. This year our experience and class of the senior midfielders was all but gone, joncock was out of form, bassett was stuggling with age related injuries, and we are rotating a group of players through the middle with less than 50 games unde rtheir belts. Of course the ball will be down the backline more, and truck cant stop everything.

As you can see, I was referring to the year Rutten was AA. This year geelong has the best defense, largely because their midfield destroys any team.

About 23 or 24, id say Carlton would let him go for your second round pick.

Yeah alright, that would seem like a fair deal. He's decently young too, I was expecting to him to be 26 or 27 .

I hope Neil Craig would think about it.
