Trades and draft selections

I have now heard that you guys are in the hunt for the following:
A. Walker
J. Sherman
B. McKinnley
P. Vezspremi
N. Djekura &
A. Maric

And at the same time looking to hold onto your first two draft choices in order the pick up Wallis & Liberatore.

Surely you're not going to be able to get them all.

Everitt & Hill should be able to land you 2 of that list & Minson plus 3rd round pick might be able to get you one also but that'd be it.

Who on that list do you reckon you'd be able to land and would be your top priorities?

In order of priority.

1. J. Sherman
2. A. Walker
3. B. McKinley
4. N. Djekura
5. P. Vezspremi
6. A. Maric

I think it's been made crystal clear, that we're going to get a couple of players by way of trade, so we need to accept it and stop moaning about it.

If we do trade for those types, do you think we can win a premiership next year?

If we add a couple of players to the group that can add to the areas we are deficient in and then have a fit & healthy list come finals time (which we didn't this year) we can challenge once again.

Thats the problem. We limped into the finals while collingwood and st kilda didn't. Harbrow, Morris, Lake, Griffen, Higgins, Cooney just to name a few are players who missed or played severly hampered. Take the equal of that out of St Kilda or Collingwood and tell me they wouldn't feel it. This team has what it takes to win a flag in 2011 and the trade's were looking at will only improve us. With more luck next yr with injuries i fail to see why we carn't.

I would think we would be after a few more than that.

We seriously lack running players and small forwards and with our draft position compromised by our F/S selections we have no other option than to trade for these types.

Ins: Libba, Wallis, Howard, Hooper, Jones, Roughead, Cooney, Higgins.

That's just some of the potential inclusions into the side from this years squad for the PF.

Out: Johnno, Eagle, Harbrow, Hahn (possibly), Minson (replaced by Roughead), He Who Shall Not Be Named...

The majority of those in's are runners. And even the two big guys are more mobile than Minson and Hahn... The biggest loss of speed is Harbrow obviously.....

I think the problem was that we got injuries to players we couldn't replace. We do need some leg speed, genuine pace, but we don't need to pursue too many of the same type this year....

We don't want to end up with too many outside runners and no in-and-under types again....

Umm... yeah not likely. We have Boyd, Cross and Ward in best 22 at the moment. Then we have Libba, Reid and Wallis waiting in the wings next year, as well as Addison who played as an inside mid in the VFL. We have too many in and under players IMO and probably really should trade one to balance it out. It won't happen though.

This is spot on.

We do lack outside run and is the main reason Eagleton was kept and got so much game time.

Makes Sherman the best trade option to get of the names bandied about.

Pity Everitt has not shown the determination to run if he can't make it as a contested possession player.

Understood and agreed. But we're not just talking about next year. We're talking about drafting for the next 5 to 10 years....

Who (from the names bandied about so far) would the guys above replace in the side below.

B: Morris Lake ???
HB: Gilbee Williams Hargrave
C: Howard Cross Griffen
HF: Grant Jones Murphy
FF: Higgins Hall Hooper
R: Hudson Cooney Boyd
I: Roughead, Ward, Addison, Reid

And you've still currently got Everitt, Stack, Hill, Libba, Wallis, Minson and a few others to come in, assuming they stay (and whoever I've forgotten when doing this team).

Now, there are spots up for grabs, but that lineup is significantly improved on the one that lost in the PF. 1 or 2 players MAY be required, but let's not grab everyone who is offered to us...

Ask black what he thinks of shaggy. Broke his jaw with one jab.
Shaggy pulled metals staples out of his stomach because he was sick of them in there. He's tough and I've heard plenty of Saints fans getting into him every game, theys till don' forgive him for "breaking" Riewoldt at the CG a few years back.

Gia may be a confessed ducker but it doesn't hide the fact that he still gets his hands dirty.
Unfortunately once a player gets a perception, it doesn't matter what he does for the rest of his career - alot of people will keep their initial view.

3 inside mids on the bench? That shows how much we need an outside runner with pace.
I'd have Wood in the side, thought he looked quite promising. Hooper is no certainty and Howard looked like a boy playing men at VFL level this year, I think he'll take time.

Yep, there is an argument for it, but people are saying we should be after 3 of Walker, Sherman, Urqhuart, Vespremi etc.....

I don't think we need 3, but we do need to get a balanced squad. Wood is another I've forgotten... There was a spot at FB I couldnt fill, it's after lunch and the brain is slowing....

I suppose I'm saying let's not overdo the mad trading for other peoples duds....

PS. Grant looked rubbish early on as well. People are already putting Libba and Wallis in next years side, so Howard might be a shot too....

Picken or Wood.

Gia wasn't listed either.

As with Mofra not convinced on Hooper... he has heaps to do over this pre-season, as does Howard.

We need pace, but we also need decision making and disposal just as much, if not more.

rank them: speed, decision making, disposal

for mine:

1) decision making
2) disposal
3) speed

I wouldnt call any of collingwood's midfielders extremely quick. Most of them are OK, with one or two being fast. but there are a lot of them, they work well together (decision making and disposal) and they have trained for shorter periods of repeat 100% efforts rather than maximum endurance. their best trio of didak, swan, pendlebury are merely OK for pace.

Our midfield could work a similar way next year.

You're probably right. Good pickups too, as I said, I knew I'd forgotten a few.

I suppose I'm just trying to highlight that it's not all doom and gloom. I don't think we could have picked a slower finals side if we'd tried, due to injury and selections. I'm all for getting a bit of leg speed in, but I don't think we necessarily need to be drastically revamping for revampings sake.

That's an interesting one...Djerrkura has clearly said he's on the move, so maybe his manager has/will be talking to the Doggies? Will be interesting to see what is offered up though.
