Trades and draft selections

I agree with this completely. But we are in the extreme minority. :)

May be the club already knows it has pocketed our Fyfe and Ballantyne in Wallis and Liber and has moved on ?

I would love to keep that 1st round choice for a couple of years though when we can top up on youngsters.

Not sure if we need Vespremi if Hooper is upgraded but we do need pace in the mid field either way, therefore if we do trade Everitt and Hill (if and if as they are contracted) it should be to plug this hole first. We could still fill the small forward role with players like Higgins etc but we definitely lack pace

As for that 1st round choice I would be targeting a tall key back, if not this year then use it when we will get the most for it

Fantasia practically came out and said that we are interested in more than one player from Brisbane...I'm interested that more hasn't been made of this, can we think of any young fringe players who would suit our needs?

How about you guys who have posted to this thread get SERIOUS !!
Trade Boyd, Cross, Gilbee. Gia etc Etc . What a load of rubbish.
Everitt and Hill have had their chances and blew them. Neither can apply defensive pressure and that is the one BIG KPI we do not rate well at.

With regards to Veszpremi, our recruiting manager, Scott Dalrymple was the development manager at Northern Knights during the time Veszpremi played his TAC Cup games there so I imagine he knows a lot about his strengths, weaknesses and attitude.

Accoring to an Adelaide Newspaper you are sniffing around Setanta. For your sake i hope not.

Yeah saw that on the Herald Sun site. Carlton offered him us for Farren Ray a couple of years ago, dont thin he's improved much since then plus he is 27 so times running out. Wouldn't mind another tall but I don't Sentant is the way to go

Yep, I think you might be.

We all watched the Dogs lose three PL's in a row and aware that we dont have the playing list to take us to the next step.

Thank heavens the coaching staff appear to think the same.
I think the questioning is more around -
1. The players we're targeting
2. Possible costs of said players.

For mine - DJ, Vez - to issues. Relatively cheap (a late pick for DJ & a fringe player for Vez). Worth going for.

I personally don't rate Sherman. Don't know much about Walker but he doesn't sound like what we need. And giving away the Compo pick for either of these (or more??) seems overs for mine - I struggle to see where we'd fit Sherman in.

I guess it depends how it pans out. If we got a pick for Minson/Hill and could use that for Sherman (won't happen, I know!) then fine.

At this stage, it doesn't look like being horrible, nor does it look like being great.

I wonder if giving Addison and Everitt to Sydney could net us Veszpremi and Sherman, without needing to give away the compensation pick.

e.g. Everitt for Vezspremi straight swap is being touted, I'd consider that but think Everitt has more currency.

Addison reminds me of Brett Kirk in more than just looks, I wonder if Sydney might want a hard-at-it inside midfielder. DFA is one of my favorite players but with Picken, Boyd, and Cross in our best 22 and Reid, Wallis, and lil Libba pushing for selection next year, his opportunities might be limited.

Obviously Brisbane would receive a draft pick from Sydney for Sherman. Who knows, maybe Sydney would want a third rounder from us as well.

Very happy to keen Addison, it's just that we need pace and I can't help but think we would get much better value for our compensation pick if we kept it a couple years.

That probably sums up trade week for most clubs.

Traded players are not going to win us our next flag, like Jolly and Ball, they'll be the cream on the cake.

All players being put up for trades this year have flaws, but like a used car, a lot of clubs will get years of good service from them.

The draft is the most critical part of the off-season by a street, but trade week has its place.

For me if we end up with Sherman, Veszpremi and DJ, I'll be happy. Anything else is a bonus.

I'm still grinning over Wallis and Libba jnr - what a bargain. Looking forward to seeing them strut their stuff over the next decade.:thumbsu:

Sherman - replaces Harbrow and slots straight into the 22. (lose the combo pick)

DJ - can be the dangerous and pressuring forward and also can play on the wing to use his pace. (lose a 4th rounder)

Vez - this kid has a high potential and will be our little goalsneak and interesting to see the way we use him if we get him. (lose Everitt)

Seriously would chuck Hill and Stack at trying to lure a Cornlious or Mitch Brown type.

This article in the Age suggests the intensity for Walker has dropped off a bit. Adelaide may now have front running.

But Minson could join Harbrow at the Suns in exchange for a pick (44) and a young player.

Also

  • Sherman still a big chance and seems red hot for the WB.
  • Everitt-Veszpremi swap likely (maybe with later pick/upgrade).
  • Tiller-Djerrkura trade being talked about.
  • And Hill could be off to the Hawks, though not sure what we'd get. Maybe a pick around mid 50s?
  • No word on Stack.

That would mean:
IN
Sherman
Veszpremi
Djerrkura
pre-listed GCS player
pick 44
(something for Hill)

OUT
compo pick (Harbrow)
Everitt
Tiller
Minson
Hill

I'm not 100% happy that this is a good set of trades yet, but I like the fact that we're aggressive and looking for some serious talent (at least two prospects there). As we have to take some risks I'll go along with something like the above.

I would also want to see some real potential in the pre-listed GCS player, not just any-old-someone simply for the sake of offloading big Will.

Sydney were spewing when we drafted them in 2005. They were desperate for him. I know they rate him, but I don't know if we'd want to give him away after his finals performances.

Really?

Our forwardline seriously lacks pace and as Sherman has this he would be a ceratin starter on a HFF.

From our PF team we will lose Johnson, Eagleton & Hahn (may be retained, but isn't in our best 22) who all played forward roles and need to be replaced.

Happy to see the dogs going after Sherman & Djerrkura, Vrez to a lesser degree but we dont need another tall forward at this stage. Im not sure if Santaclaus would add any value as we're already stacked tall on the forward line.

I wouldnt mind that depending on what we get from GC, we could then maybe make a deal for Walker as well!

It must be a pretty good Pre-Listed player as this is what it says - Dogs ruckman Will Minson is also a chance to join Harbrow at the Suns, with The Age suggesting a possible scenario where Minson traded to Gold Coast with the compensation pick, in return for pick 44 and one of the Suns' pre-listed players.

Compo pick and Minno for 44 and pre-listed player? or am I reading it wrong?
