I've got a feeling that unless we get an outstanding offer, we now won't trade at all.

Side note, could Gia become a permanent small crumbing forward? Whenever I think of Gia having a good game he's kicked his 3 or 4. Doesn't seem to be up to it as a midfielder.

Watch the replay of the Essendon game, Everitt is given goes and he skips around and makes no impact on a game.

Justin Sherman would look to be a good fit for the club for next year . Yes, he might be expensive for the next two years but, given likely delistings/retirements, we can afford it, and at 24 next year could be well worth it. Other clubs are chasing but my information is that he grew up as a Dogs supporter so that might help with his decision.

Might need to add player or draft choice but we look to have some options there,

I've added synopsis from Hun and link to him on Lions website (unsurprisingly much better info than on ours) for those that may be interested

about

After an excellent sophomore season in 2006 when he finished second in the club's B&F, Sherman's form dropped away in 2007 & 2008. He was able to recapture his 2006 form last season however, averaging over 20 disposals and career-highs of four tackles and four inside 50s per game. He played every game for the season, finishing with double-figure disposals in every game and winning 20 or more on 13 occasions. He kicked the third-most goals at the club last season and finished fifth in the Lions B&F.

I always thought he was a very ordinary player at Richmond. He played one good game every 15. Too inconsistent and seemed lazy.

He was delisted by Richmond and then went to jail which wouldn't have done wonders for his careers prospects. We have been really lucky to have sold citizens and wonderful guys at the club recently. I would avoid potential troublemakers like the plague. We saw how much resources just one high maintenance player like Aker uses from the whole club.

I can't see any upside to him at all. I know we need a crumbing forward but I would look elsewhere and a bit more upmarket. Either that or through the draft.

Krakouer might be worth a second look.

Staying
J. Grant: great prospect for the future
R. Murphy: had a ripper of a season and key utility for the club
D. Cross: key ball winner
M. Boyd: quality midfielder
S. Higgins: quality footballer will have an outstanding 2011
L. Gilbee: still in out best 22 and will be for another year or two
S. Reid: has shown the signs just needs some luck with injury
T. Williams: has locked down the number 2 defender role
D. Giansiracusa: still in our best 22
C. Ward: superstar in the making
B. Hudson: great ruckman could give us another 2-3
R. griffin: break out year has identified him self as an elite footballer
A. Cooney: gun one of very few line breakers in the squad
B. Stack: still have hope for him, and I see no value in trading him
L. Jones: love this kid I rate him so highly, runs hard for a big bloke and has the size
D. Addison: has mongrel in him and has no trade value
J. Roughead: looks a likely type for a ruck spot
R. Hargrave: still in best 22
W. Minson: need to keep as Hudson will be done in 2-3 years and by the looks of it Cordy won't be ready then, plus need him to for back up
B. Hall: can expect another good year from him
E. Wood: likely type to fit into our backline
C. Howard: still unknown quantity but looks the goods
J. Tutt: good young prospect
B. Lake: key defender for 3-4 more years
D. Morris: great versatile defender
L.Picken: good player clearly in best 22
A. Codry: still a work in progress
S. Thorne: given 2 year in deal in 09, has no trade value
* A. Hooper: upgraded to senior list
* B. Moles: upgraded to senior list
* M. Panos: I hope he gets upgraded because he was given a 2 year contract he will be up at the end of next year with GWS lurking around the lists looking for players, would be a shame to lose him in that fashion, worth the risk in my eyes.

Leaving
B. Johnson: retired
M. Hahn: although I hear he might have been offered a new contract I don't see a place for him
N. Eagleton: great career but not there any more
T. Callan: delisted no place for him anymore
S. Tiller: has been given chances shows no sign of further development
J. Harbrow: GC17

Question mark
A. Everitt: rather see him not traded but looks like eade has it in for him, is one of the few players in our squad that has genuine trade value and isn't a key to our team
J. Hill: struggle seeing him having an impact on the 22 next year hes been surpassed by our other youngsters, but still offers some trade value

One or two of these three will probably be kept, cant see all three though
J.Mulligan:
J. Boumann:
L. Markovich:
I see three main wholes in our list, young key defenders, pacey outside mids and small crumbing forwards.

This leaves us with four or five spots left on our senior list, (considering everitt and hill are traded in straight player for player swaps). I see three main wholes in our list, young key defenders, pacey outside mids and small crumbing forwards. I would love to see Peter Faulks picked up in the draft, hes a young key defender Sydney delisted last year, had a great year in the VFL. Look to draft young quick mids with picks and see if we can get a quality crumbing forward with our trade bait.

Crumbing forwards I like are the three Carlton boys, L Thomas from North Melbourne and A. Davey from essendon, essendon and carlton have shown interest in Everitt, and north could be involved in a 3 way trade with a WA club for Hill.

I'd love to see Everitt stay and Hill go to a WA club who send something (most likely players if its WCE or picks if its Freo) to North for L. Thomas, this way its virtually hill for Thomas.

Hill for Thomas, that is the Thomas that tore Carlton apart with about 7 goals, the one who had 21 disposals in a side smashed by the dogs for Hill ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Somehow that will not happen

Superb rundown Samass. I'd brush Markovic. He just doesnt look quick enough for the AFL. Mulligan will be lucky to hang on, but I wouldnt be disappointed if he were flicked either.

I really, really, really want us to hang on to Everitt. Hes also the reason Id be happy for Minson to be moved for a pick. We'd have Hudson & Roughie as the main 2, with a few games for Cordy and then Everitt spending some time in the ruck a la Leigh Brown as well. Skinny has so much talent. he just needs a coach that believes in him and who will give him consistent game time.

And as Ive said on other threads, id much prefer we chased Leroy Jetta than Sherman. Guy is younger, faster, a better crumber and can still play through through the middle.

Agree with these but I think the most important for us are actually mid-size players. When I say mid-size I probably mean a player in between midfielder and key position size. I don't include Murphy and Hahn in this as they are no bigger than many modern-day midfielders. I'm talking about someone like a Morabito or Mundy who are 191/192cm and play like midfielders. These guys are going to be the players of the future. We have Everitt but I have doubts over his versatility and general ability at top level.

How tall is Rosa? He's a decent size isn't he? 190 cm(?) maybe we could get him and develope him into a decent player. I mean face it, it's hard to develope in a team like west coast, we could pick him up pretty cheap too

Here is one from left field that I guarantee will get shouted down...Jordan McMahon

Now before you all cough milk out of your noses...think about it.

I'm sure all of us, including Jordy, probably believe that his AFL career is OVER...and the evidence suggests it so, I mean the guy spent the majority of the year struggling to play well for Coburg's Reserves FFS.

Now imagine if we offerred him not only a lifeline to play AFL again but to play it at a place where he grew up and a place where he still has a lot of mates on the proviso that he ran around for half of the summer with Daniel Cross and Matty Boyd and got himself as fit as is humanly possible AND spent the other half with Dylan Addison and Sam Reid throwing himself head first at disputed footballs.

Maybe, just maybe the penny might drop and the young man may just prove a lot of doubters wrong. (it has been done before)

Harbrow has left a gaping hole in our backline that will need fixing. What harm would there be in sitting down with Jordy, figuring out what kind of head space he is in and letting him prove whether he is worthy of a spot over the early Summer months...If he shows that he hasn't changed one bit, well sorry son there's the Door...

Mundy trade

How does this sound for an idea:

Essendon give up pick 8 in this year's draft.
They get Mundy.
Reason: Obvious, Bombers need a better midfield!

Freo give up Mundy.
They get our end of first round compensation PLUS Josh Hill.
Reason: Developing list, add an extra forward-line player with potential, and have an extra future first round pick.

Western Bulldogs give up our end of first round compensation PLUS Josh Hill.
We get pick 8 in this year's draft.
Reason: Get a higher draft pick that we can use THIS YEAR (this obviously doesn't affect us using our existing picks on Wallis and Libba), given our window is now, or the next couple of seasons...

Just an idea, but do you think it'd work?

Re: Mundy trade

Mundy signed a four year deal with the Fremantle Dockers.

If only it was that simple...I might get a game!

If the penny hasn't dropped by now it isn't going to. He is done

As for Jordan McMahon no way we'd trade for him and if we were rookie listing him, might as well go for a younger better player in the VFL that would be just as hungry and probably better value, i like left field thinking though thats what it will take to win a flag just seems way way way to left field for me.

Yeah matt rosa could be aa prospect but duno enough about him to comment, from what iv seen not really up to it

who are some viable options of crumbing forwards?

Agree 100% about McMahon. Softer than butter, and that WOULD be to say the least.

I wouldn't mind if we traded for Tambling. He has obviously been much maligned, but the potential is there, and was there for all to see in the second half of 2009. Can be used as a crumbing forward with midfield rotations as an outside mid (if he fired, he would be the epitomy of what we lack)!

Aside from Tambling, you already mentioned Lindsay Thomas, who is massively inconsistent - his effort vs Carlton would just about be best game from any player in any game this year, other times he is rubbish though.

Not really sure who else - we will have Hoops in a couple of years!

Next season, I would love to see Panos upgraded to full list, I think the future forward line should have Grant, Jones and Panos as our marking options, with Hooper as a crumber and two other midsize forwards off the flanks...

People thought the same of big Leroy Brown too mate...he will be a premiership player in a week's time.

Leigh Brown isn't a scared little boy on the field and isn't a dime a dozen half back flanker. Jordy also blasted our club on the way out of the door. It is a terrible idea

Rosa/Sherman

Do people think we will target these guys?

Hill and stack for Rosa and third rounder?

Sherman for harbrows pick?

Would people be happy with this? Win win for all clubs I would think. Rosa is a tall bigger bodied midfielder with decent disposal and good pace and Sherman is a lightning fast winger/HFF who can kick goals. Both fill needs.

Re: Rosa/Sherman

we don't need Rosa at all

Sherman is the only player we should make a play for, obviously due to his line breaking speed

We should not go out looking to do too many trades or draft too many recycled players. Look at Brisbane last year they got too many recycled players in Fev, staker, goose, x.clarke and raines and it has stoped the development of their younger players. Staker and goose early were the only serviceable recruits. It has also placed strain on their salary cap and as a result they have struggled to re-sign players. We do not want 2 go down this road we need to keep topping up with young players via the draft. Our window is still open and it will be the development of young players that will take us further not recycled players. McKinley, sherman (could be ok but i think his cost will outweigh his benefit) and rosa will not help as win our next premiership and will become list cloggers. Why do u think they have not made it at their existing club? Only trade for guns or dirt cheap players who the clubs thinks can b turned around. We will get 2 quality young players in Wallis and libba next yr. Grant, ward, roungy, wood, jones and other young players will step up to add to the quality we have. Lets not top up and become the next Lions.
