Trades and draft selections

There's a separate thread going on Minson and it's no surprise there would be a few nibbles, but what about Addison?

He's had his detractors on this board over the years and many have called for him to be traded away in the past but he has won over a few more supporters (even Fred Cook!) with some of his recent efforts.

I'd like to keep him for his work ethic and attitude but he's not a matchwinner so he's not indispensable. He's the sort of guy that if he was put up for trade could prise loose a reasonable draft pick or player and would certainly attract interest from those who (unlike the WB) are short on in-and-under types.

Agree on this, we are overweight in over 28's (aging, getting slower and more likely to be injured) and slowish in and unders with suspect disposal.

If we aren't going to trade Boyd (and I would) then one of Addison and Reid have to be looked at particularly with Wallis and Libba coming in. Addison probably has the most currency after a good finals series, you'd think he would be looked at by other clubs.

Hmm, the radio said we are after Jetta from Essendon, which I think is the kind of thing we should be looking at, he will come pretty cheap is young.

Some guy in the office told me he heard Sydney were offering 1.4 mil over 4 years for sherman?

Jetta would be the first player who I would target, rate him very highly. I just can't see it happening unfortunately

Regarding Djerrkura at the the very least he will give us some defensive pressure which is something.

Apparently it's $1.6 million for four years, but Sherman wants to come to Melbourne.

I read in the Hun that the Dogs are considering giving up the Harbrow compo pick for him, which will probably blow the Swans out of the water, so to speak.

I think Sherman should be the number one target for us.

Would be very happy with Sherman and walker. Some serious pace added to the side. Hopefully we get a small forward to allow Gia up the ground.

Which is what I thought Djerkurra was.

SEN on twitter have said that Walker's preferred destination is us.

True, he would prefer to go to the Dogs for the 2011 season....

Problem is Carlton wants Players in a swap for Walker and not picks, and add to that Grigg is going to Richmond, which means the Blues will most likely want to hold on to him while contracted.

Everitt has been offered up as a direct trade, and that has been knocked back.....

So the question is what would the Dogs put up for a trade to get Walker over the line?

No idea, Carlton are not the easiest of teams to trade with.

Who do Carlton want/need?

Surely Everitt and Stack would get it done?

not really, we always seen to be fairly active in trade week, and get fair and reasonable deals done......What is your comment based on?

Just looking at it from all angles, doesn't look like we can offer a pick to go with Everitt.

So either Carlton want this trade or they don't. Sounds like a take it or leave it proposition. I think both teams won't be too put out if we have to keep our respective players.

But Walker has played 100+ games as opposed to the 30 odd Everitt has played, so a pick to go with Everitt isn't outrageous.

It's clear that Walker wants to come to us and Everitt wants to leave us, so hopefully Carlton takes the chip off its shoulder and starts to actually dealing with other clubs.

I haven't seen any report mentioning that Everitt is asking to be traded.... Have you?

For all we know Andrejs might be content where he is.

Interested to know why you hold such an opinion, especially since we have done bugger all with you guys over the last decade or so.

History shows we paid fairly for Judd, WCE might have cocked up the picks, but the deal was fair. Freo have been fairly compensated for Warnock, Melbourne would be stoked with the McLean deal to this point in time.

It might get a bit messy on here sometimes because we are linked to every player seeking a trade, and just as many who aren't, but from the outside looking in we seem pretty straightforward to deal with during trade week.

As above...what chip on the shoulder???

Because we don't value Everitt as a fair straight swap for contracted AW doesn't mean we have a chip on the shoulder.

Not just with Everitt. I get the feeling Carlton is a bit like Essendon in that it rates its own players extremely highly and players at other clubs very low.

If that's the case, clubs just won't deal with it.

Wouldn't be surprised if others had the same opinion of us. We seem to have a high opinion of a lot of players who haven't made it or haven't played yet.
From what I have seen Walker and Jetta are both excellent players- I'd happily trade any of half a dozen of our fringe players for either.

Not sure where this Jetta love is coming from, last year he managed 6 games all of which were crap, this year he only managed 11 games of which 4-5 were good, probably because 2 of them were against us. Besides flapping around the forward line like a bird with his arms out playing for free kicks he is another seriously overated high end draft pick that was picked for his speed and goal sense but like Tambling has no footy brain and is a poor decision maker. Not the critique of "an excellent player".
