I have to say that with the season just about over my general feeling is one of worry. We have won 8 games and many supporters seem to think that we are progressing positivly.

With the exception of about 4 games I have seen us as a very undisciplined and ordinary unit. It is very rare that a Carlton side this year has been able to keep it's intensity for a full game.

Whilst I think Denis Pagan has the ability to be a top coach he is at the moment not even close to his best. I dont believe that he is reaching many players and that most are in fear of him. A coach should be resepected but not feared. He truly needs to look at himself and not just his players.

Sure we are a long way from the best list in the comp but the majority of players are miles off their potential Surely a coach must take some responsibility when he has players well below their best. Even if we had the top 3 picks in the draft I would still have no confidence with the way we play.

The side needs to bond togeather from coach down and start playing methodical team football. Pick up a man dont turn the ball over with clangers and stupid free kicks and contest everything with full intensity.

With regards to trades I believe that we should trade the guys with inflated reputations. Lance has lost his rep and as such we wouldnt get much for him. If he can get fit he will be valuable as he is 100% in his endeavour when on the ground.

Two players with big reps are Campo and Stevens. However both are receivers who rarely play at 100%. They drift in their concentration far too often and when they do become undisciplined. If they were on $300k each I would keep them. However they are probably costing us $1.2 mil per year. Sure they get heaps of stats but many are from kick outs and running behind teamates for cheap handballs. Stevens is also very slow in the head. His reaction times in disposing of the ball are not befitting of a player of his status. Trade them whilst their value is rated by some opposition teams.

With these 2 gone and Pagan changing his attitude the side can work at becoming an honest outfit. Once we can achieve a real commitment then we can develop the players we have and move up. It would be great to support a side that gives effort every week and doesnt get beaten easily on regular occassions.

One thing you fail to address though is that throughout history most rebuilding sides with a lot of youngsters tend to cop a few thrashings a season or two prior to achieving a level of success. This might not be the case with us but it is possible. We shall see next season I guess. Remember also that the draft penalties are over and we should be able to start rebuilding with purpose.

Sorry.

I don't agree with you.

Why the hell would we trade Stevens and Campo... ??

I would prefer to trade Fevola.

To Stokesy,

I know most will disagree about Campo and Stevens and I could go on and on with reasons why but feel I have provided enough in the original post.

With regards to Fevola he is not on the money that the other 2 are on and I believe he has the potential to fix his attitude problems and when he does will far out perform Campo and Stevens. He has much more ability than both.

However if Fevola is still playing undisciplined footy in 18 months and is in demand then this also could be looked at. If Pagan gets his act into gear then I am confident that Fevola will be the super star we have all been hoping for.

Pagan can only work with what he has. We have IMO the worst list in the competition, so Pagan has done very well this year

I would also trade Whitnall (hopefully to the dogs for one of their low picks)

We can't trade Campo because of his contract (at least he goes onto the veterans list next year)

Stevens wont be traded. IMO he should be captain next year.

Stevens is 4th in the league for centre bounce clearences, so while he does receive sometimes, he also wins his own ball. Also note that the other 4 players in the top 5 CB clearences are West, Black, Simpson, Riccuito. I wouldnt call these players receivers either

What we really need now is some elite talent in the draft

Looks like my post was very well timed. Todays game by Stevens was the best I have seen him play. It wasnt the stats he amassed but the way he got and then disposed of the ball. It reminds me of Camporeale's game against Adelaide.

I truly hope that he can build on today and play a similar brand of football next week and in seasons to come. Similarly the side played today with a level of confidence that has been lacking for much of the year.

Hopefully I will be proven wrong about Stevens long term.
