MIGHTY MAGPIES
We are still a way off being a force again, injuries once again havent helped, but they cant be helped. During the last few rounds we have looked really good and there was a glimmer of hope that we could make a run for the finals.

I still believe we dont have enough depth in the middle of the ground, that and some positional changes need to happen at the end of this year, and then on.

If he is fit enough play Tarrant on a wing to give him space to run in, he tackles hard, and chases the ball well, his passing is pretty good and has pace.

Put Didak in the middle full time. More game time in the middle will help Dids next year, and give us more depth

Give Walker 1 position to play, he has done ok in the backline, and i would like to think he can take over from Wakelin after next year.

As far as trading is concerened, i think we should forget about Dal Santo, and look at not quite as high profile players.

Gianciracusa from the doggies is almost perfect for what we lack, pace and skill. He has both of these in spades, we also have kpp's to offer to the doggies.

Salopek from Port, he is a Melbourne boy and has struggled with injury and form this year, he has pace and skill, and could be looking to come home.

I have to go, but ill return later 2nite with more opinions.

i dont think walker will be there next year i think his gone.

i like some of the cats midfield that r low cost young and mgiht be good for us.

i still think if we r going to play tarrant up the ground we need a full forward, i dont think travis cloke should be played somewhere else maybe CHB his got a huge kick height and pace.

i think we need a leading forward that we can count on there kicks, fevola would be alright, or maybe fraser from the saints but his a touch to old we cant just go after a quick fix for 2 years.

i jsut think we may need to get a couple of midfielders and a full forward or something.

If we can nab one decent youngish midfielder who is reasonably quick and clean with the ball we will have done well. Plenty of players around the league who fit this mould, no point speculating but you are right perhaps its the Giansiracusa type guys who haven't quite peaked yet we should be trying to lure. Others I like (but dont neccesarily have a clue about their contract status and ties to the club) would be Hadley at Bris, Waters/Butler at WCE, Kelly/Enright and co at Geelong and Salopek at Port.

Fraser, Cole, Lonie, J Cloke and Walker would be the first names I would toss up for trade if we could get someone to commit to us. They are all still young, have Finals experience and have shown glimpses at certain stages. Will have much more currency than Woey, O'Bree Morrison and co who we'd offload for a pack of ciggies.

Forward line I am not worried about a great deal, Tarrant/Rocca/T.Cloke is as good a 3 tall forwards as you will get and add to that Caracella, Didak and young developers in Rusling and Egan and even Tommy Davidson and we are well stocked. Leon should be fitter aswell considering this year was a write off.

Backline it would be nice to nab a young kid with our 3rd round pick or so (the first 2 picks being used on midfielders) who we can groom at CHB. Not sure Tex is going to make it there....and time is running out!

I think we need to target key backman. We have no fall back when Presti and Wakes retire. Walker is getting smacked in the twos and has been embarrassed when he has played down back in the one's. He just isnt a smart footy player.

Id also like to see Rusling play back.

We need to seriously look at Ben Rutten who will be a gun.

I agree. We really need a tall athletic backman, who can do a good lock down job and also create some run.

Is Rusling tall enough for that?

Rusling is really a few Cm's off being a key possy player, he is the perfect size for a onball/ flank type player however and thats how MM will use him. Rutten is a good one, but i doubt adelaide will part with him - how about fergus watts or nathan bock?? Our priority atm is really in the midfield so any young pacy player with descent skills would go down a treat

Of that lot only Fraser and Cole would attract any decent offers at the trade table. The rest would be lucky to draw third round picks, and the question will come down to whether we delist them or keep them. My guess is we'll keep them.

Didnt fraser just re-sign?

Cole might have some currancy with essendon, they seemed pretty keen when he was in the draft. Id look at possibly offering Davidson to Geelong, who need a tall forward, and his dad is the General Manager IIRC. Getting a Kelly, a Bartel, a Corey, or an Enright would be good, but im really excited about Gianciracusa, he wont have alot of trade value, as he wont be able to show much in the latter half of the season after his latest set back, same goes for salopek.

With the likely hood of carlton bottoming out at seasons end, they will probly be looking for some more low draft picks, if fev doesnt sign, we could look at a 3 way trade with a geelong, adelaide or an bulldogs.

We need to stop being the bully in trade deals, just trying to get players to sign because we are the biggest name in Football.

We need to approach the guys showing tallant, but are slipping under the radar.

Talking about Fraser, he would have to be one of the softest AFL players going around. Surely.

As for the trades or delisted guys I think the following should be in trouble, in now way am I saying that they will be delisted how ever.

Lonie
Cole
Davis
C and J Cloke
Crazy John
O'bree although i like him and has been in some form.

They are just a few that get games through out the year, can't be bothered mentioning the likes of Willo and co.

I really think we should get strawny into the side, i been down at the lexus center recently watchen the pies train and boy does this bloke look in good nick :D On a serious note i reckon Kane 10ace is a goer, hes been dropped by the catters for not really performing this year i reckon we r a chance 2 nab him if we play our cards right. I know we tried last year but now the cats might be more willing as he hasnt been able 2 play as they would have hoped this year.

Yeah, when is Brian Strawn going to play a game. I have really been looking forward to seeing him get his first run. Might have the potential to be the next big thing at Lexus Centre.

We have seen him on a very strict diet of protein bars by the box-full and also he has got some respect and class down there by quite clearly, giving the boys, especially Bucks, som e hints and tips about the game.

Cmon Strawny.

yeah, has got pace and skills, but I think "Blackjack" might be one of those players picked up for his athletic ability. If we had something they wanted at Geelong, we may be able to get him, or someone like him. Hopefully we can chuck money at Luke Power though and get him down at the Lexus Centre. We need another class player, not a player with potential.

Trades at years end,
Ryan Lonie, a bit soft and we have too many players of his type
Leon Davis, Egan is the go now and leon has had plenty of chances to prove his ability and has failed only good in bursts and we need consistent performers
Matthew Lokan, would not get a game in any AFL's best 22 letalone the squad of 25, hasnt got the ability to step up and play every game of the year.
Andrew Williams, hasnt got the ability to play AFL anymore.
Tristian Walker, could get something for him, a club like hawthorn or the kangas might want him.
I would consider trading Brent Hall or Billy Morrison if we could get something for the. Both are still playing in the VFL reserves so we either need to give them opportunites to play or ship them off and get some midfielders and a key defender in the Jarrad Rivers mould.

Be realistic.
We will get nothing for Lokan (unless people are stupid and remember bits of his 2003 season) or Wiliams.
Morrison will be lucky to get anything but he might get a second chance at another club.
Hall we might get something, like a really really late pick, but I'd rather keep him as he has a bit of potential.
Lonie would get 3rd round at best.

Kane Tenance to the pies! we were afte rhim last year but i reckon this year we have a chance considering he spends most of his time in teh twos! instead of a first round pick we coudl maybe get him for a second round pick and player liek tex!

Players likely to be traded are Lonie and Walker for nothing more than a third round pick, and possibly Fraser and Cole if we are chasing a big fish like a Power or a Dal Santo. The other players like Lokan Williams L Davis B Morrison etc will likely get delisted and may have to hope for luck in the PSD.

I'd reckon J Cloke will remain for at least one more year.
