Moloney has been BOG in every one of our wins. How is he not in the first couple?
Because he's a limited player. As soon as a team with a half decent ruckman and decent midfield are against him he can barely must more than a couple of rushed possessions per quarter.

Scully and Trengove are our gun midfielders of the future and are much more important, as is Sylvia, who despite working mainly one way can actually win the ball. Moloney is just a more mature version of Gysberts and McKenzie.

1. Trengove
2. Scully
3. Frawley
4. Jamar
5. Watts
6. Grimes
7. Sylvia
8. Garland
9. Moloney
10. Davey

If he's that limited why does the no1 tagger go to him and not Sylvia?

I would blame Sylvia for not giving him a chop out. Until Sylvia takes the No1 tag he can't be rated higher than Moloney.

Trade Sylvia for McKernan, Vince and their first draft pick.

Sylvia is a good player but that is the sort of deal that would be used on an absolute premier player in the comp.

Considering their top pick will be top 10, that's probably a better deal (or at least on par) than what the Eagles got for Judd (at the time).

a first rnd draft pick and Vince as well. Stats are nothing, his influence on a game has been minimal compared to last year.

He needs to lift and it has to start tonight. A similar performance to his game against Essendon last year is desperately needed.

Top 3 in tackles, one of the leagues best in team I50 entries etc Sylvia is far from a wasted early pick, also who else is better from that draft?

Deliedio and Cooney, not even Cooney on current form

Wouldn't mind seeing us have a crack at Jordan Lisle from the Hawks.

Been playing very well for Box Hill, and would almost certainly be in the Hawks team if not for Buddy and Roughead.

I know Hawthorn really rate him and wouldn't want to let him go, but if we offer him the game time he might want out. Not entirely sure what it would take to get the job done, but I think if he wanted to leave then we could maybe use a second rounder plus a player. If Hawthorn wanted to play hardball it may take a first rounder, but he hasn't shown a whole lot at AFL level, because he hasn't had the chance.

As for small forwards - it is possibly one of the hardest positions on the ground to play. They are so reliant on the people around them. We need to give some continuity of games to a small forward this year to see if they cut it. We do have the luxury that Petterd and Dunn can play tallish and smallish when in good form, so either Maric or Bennell need to prove their worth to hold down the small forward spot, otherwise we could offer up Maric in a deal with Hawthorn for Lisle.

We have enough players coming through to play the running HBF role, they are just either injured or still cutting their teeth. Hopefully one of them gives it a real crack by the end of the year.

Would like to see a backline of:

Bartram Frawley Garland
Tapscott Rivers Strauss

with Grimes playing a bit of a Luke Hodge role through the backline and the middle.

Frawley, Tapscott and Strauss all very good users, Garland is serviceable, and they can all run and carry. So as long as Tapscott and Strauss prove their worth I don't think we need to worry about that position too much.

If Strauss can't get the defensive side of his game right then use him as a winger going forward. And if he does and we want to keep Grimes in defense then use Tapscott in a Paul Chapman like role.

you guys have sorta taken the thread in the wrong direction but all cool

i think were in need of 3 things

1. a dinosaur full forward, watts will be the 30-70m player but we need a 5-30m player someone who can stand with a defender and at worst bring the ball to ground.. mark my words, the mfc will look at fev but other than that im not really sure who we can go for, maybe hawkins? you know he has the talent

2.A classy kick from half back, or who runs and carries it just as far, tapscott is a great kick but he doesnt carry, and he will end up forward later on anyway, someone like jarrod harbrow or mattner from the swans or harry o, not that any of them would be available but that sort of player, probably what there grooming blease for

3.Another ball and all midfielder, junkyard dog.. someone who will give up there game for the good of the team and work hard the other way..bail and mckenzie are it but someone like lukey ball, jude bolton, james kelly

Throw in Morton

Deludio wasn't even in that draft. Don't even care about that draft, it was an awful draft.

Stats can easily be beaten. He should be first at ball, what the hell is he doing with these I50?

His influence on games has been minimal, no one can deny that. He has a chance to rectify that tonight and I think he has to.

The point is i dont think that trading Syl is the best idea for a flavour of the month Forward.... like Grant last year... who cant get a game when the dogs are screaming for a forward

Classy kick from the back, Harry O....wow

Some one who puts it on the line for the team, i think we have that in moloney, mckenzie, scully tenners, gys, soon to be Viney etc grimes if in the mids

the forward... you are right about Watts, but i think he may end up deeper and Cook to play the 30-70 role in future but a Full forward could be good, or our resting ruck would be nice, Jamar, Martin, Gawn in the future to play deepish

What are your thoughts on ASh Smith from the Eagles?

His kicking / decision making is improving slowly and he is finally getting the confidence to run with the ball more. His highlight package from the U18's shows him bursting from defense, take a running bounce and then kicking long into the forward 50 and hitting targets. He hasn't quite show this to date but is getting better with every game.

Straight swap for Jamie Bennell?

Smith was taken the pick straight after Bennell in the same draft, Smith is bigger, stronger and is a running HB flaker.

Both players are in and out of the side a bit and have not yet cemented their positions in the best 22.

No thanks. Bennell is a player we need to keep.

I suggested Lisle in a thread where a Hawks fan asked about what we'd want for Warnock. Supposedly the Hawks rate Lisle, maybe they'd take Warnock & a pick or pick upgrade for him. (i.e. Warnock & pick 14 for Lisle & pick 23). This could work if they really want a kid who'll be mid 1st round pick.

But I think they'd be hesitant to let him go for anything, after getting rid of Dowler & Thorp in recent years & Roughie being used as a utility, they aren't exactly overflowing with KP forwards, especially if Buddy copped a LTI.

Whoever said Renouf, you're massively deluded if you think Hawks would let him go. Their biggest positional issues last 3-4 years have been #1 Ruck & #2 KP defenders.

what about bennell and 2nd round pick for shannon hurn

The Bulldogs are in crisis mode. Lost the match tonight purely because of a lack of cattle.

They seem to have problems managing injuries. If Cooney is manged okay though, he'd be prime for a trade and they need players to start a rebuild, same with Lake. This side will not win a Premiership. IMO, with rumours that we want experiene, Coon may be the perfect target. If his knees hold up and a medical went okay, he would be great for us. Complete our midfield, he's only Sylvia's age and to fasttrack our window - we need a bit of 'been there, done that'. He's got finals experience.

If we could offer up two picks in the top 35, I reckon it'd be great for us.

Don't shoot.

statistics are very relevant sting. And bernie vince belongs in adelaide.
Dont forget sylvia was also leading the comp in inside 50's before he got injured..

Cooney is still young enough to be part of the Dogs next tilt. Gazza wrote an interesting article in the Age today about what the saints could do as part of a package deal to trade Goddard. The Dogs should read it and take note.

The older guys like Gia, Murphy, Lake and Hargaves are prime trade options down at the kennel IMO. For what Cooney would cost i dont see the value us.

Master + Dunn to GWS for a 17 year old pick.

Yeah, unfair. Hear me out though.

- We've only got two contract negotiations running. One is the obvious one, the other is Col Sylvia.
- Work to get Sylvia's contract wrapped up sooner rather than later.
- Get the trade deal done with GWS. The 17 year old will be Jack Viney - now that MFC have the pick, get him to nominate. Likelihood is that a WA club will get the other for O'Meara right now.
- Then, with Scully's negotiation, massively front-load the contract using the wages freed up from Bate and Dunn. Literally give him every cent we have free that wouldn't be a draftee contract for 2012. Then, for the following years, negotiate a lower rate.

EG Using the Sheahan $2.8mil over 4 years...
Year 1: $1.4mil
Year 2: $600k
Year 3: $450k
Year 4: $350k

I think that, on the back of rumours that we want to trade this year, Trengove should be our target. Versatile height all over the ground. 2nd round pick and Morton could be a starting offer.

Pass. Stef Martin will keep him out.

We should be looking at another silky kicker coming out of half back and some more pace would be nice.

As for Bate and Dunn = 17 y.o pick. No chance.

There's apparently some really good 17y.o. ie O'meara, Yarran.

Prob 1st round pick + a good/solid player. 1st round pick + Petterd for example.
