Trades

cousins is desperate to play footy and we should want him. hopefully balme is working behind the scenes with cousin's managers to get him down to sleepy hollow as we speak. cousins = gut running. he would kill a lot of the players on the geelong list in a time trial except maybe for ling. if we can get him similar to what footscray gave for aker, we will be doing well.

i cant see judd, pav, roo or dal santo moving clubs at the end of this season. the burden of being a one club player is still strong even today unless there has been a big falling out like aker had with brisbane.

Hi all

David Johnson looks to be a bit out of favour at the Cats this year, and he is a player that I would hope the Blues look at recruiting for next year.

What would you want from us in a trade?

If he was traded, a draft pick would suffice.

He is tough, courageous and determined - lacks polish and smarts.

He would be a very good fit for us. Not spectacular, but does a job and does it pretty well-he'd add strength to our midfield and help take a bit of pressure off the kids developing.

What draft pick would you be looking for?

Also, what's going on with Prismall? Untouchable?

Prismall- untouchable. Give Carazzo back for Johnson.;)

He has played most games this year but had some soft tissue injuries that have kept him out of the side. I don't think he has played a reserves game yet (Did play 1 practice match early on).

Still he could very easily be on the trade table all things considering and we have a good trading history with Carlton, most trades being mutually beneficial.

I would suggest maybe a 2nd round pick in the range of pick 25-32. At 26 would he fit your recruiting policy though.

Geelong will not want to trade Prismall, you get the feeling that something has to give regarding the Geelong midfeild though. To many good players not getting reegualr game time.

Carlton's 2nd round pick would be a bit earlier than that, as we will finish near the bottom once again. Unless we trade for another 2nd round pick, I doubt that we would be willing to part with our 2nd rounder. I wouldn't be completely against us giving you our 3rd rounder for him, which will probably be mid 30's.

Our recruiting policy is a bit iffy. He is over the age that was specified, but at 26 it's not by much, and I think he would be able to play about 100 games for us which was another specification. I think the club would go a bit easier on the recruiting policy if we were going to get a player that would truly help the team out. We need another experienced, strong bodied midfielder to help out, take a bit of pressure of the other midfielders, and would enable the kids to continue developing nicely. Johnson would fit that mould for sure.

Would Geelong be happy with our 3rd rounder?

To be honest I think you will finish 2nd bottom depending on what Brisbane do. That means pick 2/3, 20, 36 with pick 1 or 18 as your priority pick.

I don't think the cats would accept pick 36 or 37 for him however they may be willing to do:
David Johnson + pick 34 (Premiers:D)
for pick 20

You might be able to pick up Callan for a third round pick. IMO he is just as good as Johnson.

The whole point in trading for Johnson is that we would get a strong bodied midfielder who is experienced, rather than a kid.

Trading for Callan would defeat the purpose.

Geelong need the trade to improve there list in some way as well. Pick 36 for David Johnson doesn't really do that. However we may be able to develop one of the many good young ruckmen at 20 hence that has some value.

I doubt that we will finish 2nd bottom, I think we are a better team than that.

If we do, then obviously our first rounder would be untouchable. I don't think that a team is allowed to trade their priority picks, so our priority pick (either pick 1 or pick 17 (?)) is out of the question. So pick 19 would be the only pick you would accept, but I'm not sure how willing we would be to give it up. Maybe if you gave us Johnson and a pick in the 20's?

You obviously have not seen young Callan,he has been on our list for 5 years, has a strong body, courageous, good mark very similar type players and would give you a couple of extra years.

I understand that, I was just saying that the only way we would enter trade discussions (I hope) with teams was to get experienced bodies to help the development of our kids.

I don't think we will be using this trade period for kids, unless they are pretty much proven quality (like Selwood). I think we'll use the draft and PSD (one pick) for kids, and trading and PSD (2nd pick if we have one) for experienced midfielder/defender.

I think you are better than Brisbane but you may want to tank so you get pick 1 + pick 3 rather than Pick 2 & 18

I really think we are a top 4 side this year which means picks
1st - 12-17
2nd - 30-34
3rd - 46-50

Doesn't really seem feasible unless you can come up with a mid/late 20's pick or are willing to give up your 2nd round pick for our 2nd round +DJ.

I highly doubt that we will be tanking, in fact I'm sure we won't be. We are good enough to finish 10th at the highest this year, but injuries to key players have killed us so I think we will be finishing between 12th and 14th. We'll end up with a pick between 3 and 6.

Say we finish 14th. We get pick 3 and pick 18 or so. I'm just not sure whether we would give up pick 18 for Johnson and a pick in the 30's.
