He was one of our Rising Star Defenders and We traded him to the Lions(That came and Bit us on the Ass) for ?.

Story I heard was Taz and Mal where like Morons who got on the Piss and only cared about there Social Life and not Footy. We had to Keep On and Trade the Other. We Traded Mal and Kept Tarrant(Not Sure Why).

Does anyone know why?

exactly what you said

Tarrant was the younger one, more potential, and had shown more

Micheal was happy to leave it was facilitated

mal wanted to return to papa new guene or something but must of had family up in queensland!
We had no choice ended up with a player in return at least... the Dtrain jarrod molloy. could of easily been another nick stevens luke ball situation and got nothing for him.

In exchange, we got Jarrod Molloy, a hard at it forward who played some good games, inspiring with his pace, strength and courage. However, he was susceptible to leg injuries and missed some important games. He had some very quiet games. Overall, Brisbane easily got the best out of the deal.

Mal and Taz were in the sauce all the time.

One had to go. Taz was a first round pick who had shown plenty, the other was a rookie upgrade who had begged us for a spot and done well, with family links to the club.

Mal was also from Brisbane, so a deal was facilitated.

I don't think it was a bad move at all, because if he had stayed he probably would have remained a pisshead and we may not have got the good Tarrant years from 2001-2004.

We also gave up pick 22 and gained pick 44, so it wasn't quite a straight swap. We were definitely on the wrong end of that deal.

I don't think we were on the wrong end, as Mal would never have fulfilled his potential the way he was going at Collingwood, and he probably would have continued to effect Taz as well. At least we got a few good years out of Taz, once Mal left.

The trading of Mal Michael cost the pies 2 flags.

2002 Most importantly and possibly 2003.

We decided to keep tarrant and trade Mal Michael cause Tony Shaw who was the coach at the time thought both were trouble makers so he thought he would trade one off to seperate them.

In hindsight BIG mistake should have kept both or at least if he had to make a choice should have traded TARRANT and kept Michael.
Mal would have the stop gap in the backline to guard LYNCH,with him on our side we would have won both those Flags at worse at least the 2002 grand final.

You guys don't even WANT to know what I heard.

Well, the story I was told, was that Mal had actually...how do I say this semi-nicely without using the R word.....

Had sex with a girl who didn't particularly want to, and in exchange for her silence, the deal was to get Mal out of Victoria ASAP. So a trade had to very quickly be organised with Brisbane (not sure why Brisbane,m this was a long time ago) and so the trade with Molloy was done.

The biggest hole in this story, is that he ended up BACK in Victoria MANY years late. So either the story was crap, or she either:

a) Didn't care after that long or
b) Had moved herself.

There may have been something in the stories about Mal and Tarrant but Michael played under Malthouse as a forward without much success and wanted more money which we refused. The talk at the time was that he wanted more than we thought he was worth. We were wrong and we paid for it with a poor trade and possibly a flag or two.

We should have worked a lot harder to keep Michael and Williams. More money for them and less for some of the duds we retained might have seen us with an extra flag or two.

This sounds more realistic compared to my story.

At the time of Mal Michael's trade I was furious with the club because I thought that it was pretty much as described here. After much digging and questioning, I was informed that Mal was belittling and harrassing the young kids at the club (one of which was Tarrant and that's why he walked out on the club and MM with Bucks had to work hard to persuade Tarrant to come back instead of chucking it in and going on a 12 month surfing holiday.). The club made the decision that Mal was going to cost us a number of young kids and that he had to go. When Mal was spoken to about this he told them to shove Collingwood where the sun don't shine and that he wanred a clearance to Btibane. On top of that he had been injured the year before and had breaks in his vertabrae so was possibly not going to be able to realise his potential. We all now know what a crock that diagnosis was but it all made a pretty compelling case for letting him go.

willos and bucks ego's were to big apprantely.. they had a massive falling out and one of them had to leave..

What a crock of proverbial, why don't we just make up the Bucks had murdered Willos family if we are just going to make stuff up, it might as well be real good.

.

Rubbish, he played predominately as a full-back, but mysteriously was moved to the wing for a while where he was ineffective. We had Wakelin, Presti and Clement at the time, and Michael was a rookie who begged for a spot - so was understandably down the pecking order. He had also shown not a great deal to that point.

He wanted to return to Brisbane, so we accomodated as he had a poor attitude, poor off-field discipline and wasn't performing on the field.

Actually it is not rubbish. Michael played at CHF under Malthouse for the first three games of 2000 and hurt his ankle half way through the Carlton thrashing at the MCG and didnt come up for the rest of the season.

Also, Michael and Tarrant also lived together.

There must have been some bad blood when he left. I remember reading quotes from Taz and some other players that he had sent them texts on the night after the 2002 GF saying "thanks for the flag" or something like that. I thought it was weird at the time because i had heard that taz and mal were mates.
