IMO, all the discussions about trading of players and draft picks in the hope of picking up either Chick or Headland are wide of the mark.
The eagles have a good crop of young players, and this year the midfield stood up...and there are younger players such as Sampi, Humm and Munro who may also add to that midfield strength in the future.
Our younger talls look like they may need more time to develop, but Lynch, Gaspar, McDougall and even Glass may do just that next year.
The half back line looks a lot better with Green and Hunter on it, and if there are any weaknesses it would seem to be small backmen, and good half forward flankers. We seem to be lacking both.
Granted both Chick and Headland can play a variety of roles, including half forward flank, but both are likely to be expensive to acquire, and would they be really worth it?
IMO the answer is no. A better strategy would be to look at those middle tier players who have been given opportunities and not taken them as trades for similar kinds of players at other clubs.
In other words you trade those with some potential left, but who have not been able to find their feet with you, and get the same kind of players from the other clubs.
The current core of young players and the few established stars at WCE are good ones, who got the club into 8th position this year. That core group should remain. There are not that many players who are vulnerable
The players to trade are:
Williams
Embley
Morrison - has not played for a couple of years, now vulnerable, but would be tradeable for a mid range player
Read -same as Morrison
The players to delist are (which other club would take them?):
Harding
Sierakowski - vulnerable, could not cement a place
Prior - vulnerable, same as Siera.
