You're exactly right.

The ONLY thing we can hope for is that there is some reform of the bouncer industry and that this bloke doesn't just walk back into a similar job a few years down the track.

Have you seen the hotel association people scrambling around saying how their industry is fairly regulated and this is an isolated incident?! Rubbish. This sort of thing happens every single day in every capital city. Plenty goes unreported. Maybe people aren't killed all that often, but plenty are verbally and physically assulted for little or no reason.

For crying out loud the bloke already had charges against him! It's like allowing repeating drunk drivers to drive taxis, ridiculous.

What a shocking waste of life.

Have previously posted my thoughts on the cricket board. Just so sad how a life can be lost in such mindlessly stupid circumstances. Very likely that the "security guard" will end up in jail convincted of manslaughter, but that won't bring Hookesy back!

I have fond memories of Hookes dragging in the crowds my their thousands to Adelaide Oval once news got around he was batting (particularly if the likes of Flipper or Boof were at the other end). Was a straight-shooting character both on & off the field.

PS. Can we keep this thread reasonably clean unlike some of the posts on the cricket thread's which have been in poor taste or quoted the security guard's address, which is inappropriate on this site. Also, please don't quote things as fact, but as alleged, given that there is still to be a court case. Thanks.

btw, has anyone noticed the AFC website has nothing on it about Hookes? He's a club ambassador in Vic, yet even Port have something on theirs. Pretty poor if you ask me...

Enough. The club put an obituary in Tuesday's Advertiser. I haven't bought as many Addies as this in a while. Better than a notice on a bloody website, I don't care how much the web is used these days. The Power also put one in Wednesday's. The club has not been remiss or done anything wrong - you shouldn't say they have. The PAFC's website article talks more about the dangers of celebrity-status for sportsmen and women anyway while the AFC's also states that they will be at Tuesday's service. Don't derail the thread because Adelaide haven't updated their site with something in the off-season, fellas.

Rest In Peace David.

For your information not every Crow supporter lives in Adelaide!!!!
With interstate and overseas readers of this website, it would have been appropriate to put a small notice on the website.

YOUR WRONG

Actually - I wrote an email to the website because, like yourself, I live overseas and the website is one of my main ways of keeping in touch with the club and I was a bit upset they hadn't said anything about Hooksey's passing.

In what I thought was a nice touch, Phil Harper sent me a personal email in reply that said:

Kris,

You are quite correct.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention it will be updated immediately. The one on Ports site was from an interview with Brendan Lade.We put a notice in the paper & our club will be represented on mass (players, coaches, staff & officials) at the funeral on Tuesday. In addition Mark Riccuito & Gary Ayres have spoken on this subject on 5AA this week.

Thanks again for bringing this to my attention.

Look - I'm sure it was just an oversight and they have been doing everything they can. It's a funny time and not one where you should judge a person or an organisation's response.

Unless that's a typo, it's a tad worrysome when an employee of the AFC can't get the captain and reigning Brownlow Medallist's name right.

An absolute tragedy. David Hookes will be sorely missed.

Good to see that the AFC staff & players are heading to the funeral on Tuesday morning. I wish that I could go myself.

I just pray that the thug involved gets what he deserves.

I managed to get down to the service on tuesday and it was a really beautiful one. The songs played were well picked and the tribute of the bat against the wickets was really fitting.

It actually was really suprising how many of the players did turn up for the funeral. A big thumbs up to the club.

Why was it "really surprising"? If two State Premiers and of all people Russell Crowe attended, it's hardly surprising that players and officials of both of South Australia's AFL clubs attend the funeral of an AFC ambassador and well known South Australian sporting and media identity.

Geez, someone got out of bed on the wrong side:rolleyes:

I'm not suprised that players of both AFl clubs turned up, im suprised at HOW MANY players turned up.

And I don't mean that in a bad way. Its really good that SO MANY turned up.

Relax Shatner. I was merely asking a question as to why you thought it was "really surprising" that so many of the players turned up.
