This morning's training session nearly got away on time, with the boys arriving on the track at about 8.50am. Neil Craig spent quite a few minutes talking to the group before they proceeded onto Max Basheer Reserve.

The main group began their normal warm up of a light kick to kick before a jog and a stretch.

The restricted group consisted of Johncock, Jericho, Hentschel (who had his knee strapped today), Edwards, Armstrong, Cook, Kite, Gallman, Petrenko and Biglands (who came outside later). They also started with a jog and a stretch before moving onto some running, sprints and agility work, although for the majority of the session they worked on skills.

Following their usual warm up, the main group completed another kick to kick drill; this time briefly stopping to stretch and then moving back around 10 metres to further their kicks.

They then moved onto sharing the ball around the ground, generally just kicking, before again, stopping to stretch. This time, as the drill resumed, the trainers played as the 'defenders'. They mustn’t have done a good job, as they were forced to complete ten push ups once the whistle had blown.

The main group then moved onto to a faster moving drill, with several groups positioned around the ground. From the goal square, the ball would move to a leading player on the wing, before being worked back inwards and then down the centre for either a shot at goal at one end or a pass to a forward at the other end. First up, Brett Burton and Kurt Tippett were the 'go to' forwards, followed by Jonathon Griffin and Taylor Walker. Having made their lead and received the ball, they would kick to the on running player in the forward pocket. Kite, originally in the restricted group, joined in for this one.

The next drill, well I missed it as I was talking to Dave (afccomau), but I think they were working on goal kicking...

The following drill had the main group split into two. Down the left end of the ground, three groups were positioned, one in each pocket of the 50 metre arch and one at CHF. A kick would go across the ground, one pocket to the other, with the receiving player then passing onto a leading player running into the 50 from CHF. At the other end of the ground their were two groups receiving a pass from the goal square (Johncock was granted this task) and the having a running shot at goal.

Afterwards, Burton, Sellar, Jacky, Hentschel and Edwards were practicing their goal kicking.

The rest of the players were running through ball ups from different places on the ground. Several groups would rotate through and verse each other.

Gill, Stevens, Rutten, Moran, and Maric then stayed behind and went through some goal kicking with the above players.

It was then back to the rooms as the players and coaches prepared for their media photos and shots this afternoon.

EDIT: Pics are up

Nice work CG. Interesting to hear the Griff and Texas duo for the forward line. Was Dangerfield still out with the boys or has he headed home?

I hope Dave was pouring praise on your outstanding reporting at BF.

As usual, very much appreciated. :thumbsu:

Yes, Dangerfield was out there :thumbsu:
Hey CrowGirl, you wou'dnt be able to write up say a paragraph on each of the new draftees???

We've heard a lot about Jacky and how well he is going, but someone brought up in another thread that we haven't really heard much about Kite or Cook.

You've been awesome over the past few weeks and the whole board is grateful for what you've done.

But since we can't/too lazy to get down, maybe your opinion on how the new boys are travelling, how their settling in, whether they look comfortable, whether they are coping etc etc.

Cheers.

I'd love to :thumbsu: I'll have a ponder about our new players and get back to you...(I have some family coming over tonight, but will compile a little something around tomorrow arvo.)

Huge thanks as always, Crow*Girl.

Does this mean Gill was back training with the main group?

McLeod looks so damn fit.

Could hardly recognise Griff today at the photoshoot with his new hairdo!

Texas ranger seems to be a bit of a character. Kept messing up Hentschel's hair in the photoshoot! Jericho, McGregor and Walker kept making a spike without Hentschel realising it. Might cop a ribbing from boys once the photos are out :D

I was about to come in here and have a crack at Griffin for his lack of bulk but I think he's put on a few kg's. However, Tippett will play more games than he this year, mark it down. He's playing Round 1 is Kurt.

I am not sure if Griff has bulked up! He looked the same to me today, other than the new hair cut!

Tippett is a MASSIVE unit. He was standing next to Rhett, has a couple of cms on him and they are roughly the same in terms of body strength. Kurt is an absolute MONSTER!
