Seeing how our official website is shit regarding updating us on training, how about one of you guys who attends give us a brief run down on what happened. Hopefully more good Daniel Harris stories.

Can You Feel My Love Buzz

Well its a public holiday tomorrow & there's a session at 8am at Royal Park.

I've been in sunny Adelaide all week so if I can drag my sleep-deprived butt out of bed at that hour, I might get down there & have a look.

Any other takers?

Good one Darky. Did you have a big night?

I did drag the said butt out of bed & through bleary eyes I gave training a bit of a look. I was tired, hot & sleepy & didn't take in as much as I'd wanted to.

I was trying to recognise some of the many new faces but couldn't make out every body. The full squad really looks like a young team with a large gap between the experienced blokes & the new faces. I wonder if there'll be any more unjustified "too old, too slow" taunts this season.

I was pretty taken by the fitness & shape of a lot of the senior blokes who have obviously put in the hard yards in the gym during the break. Mick Martyn topless is a sight to behold at the moment.

Of the new crop, Olarenshaw certainly looked fit & seemed to take the whole session pretty effortlessly. Rick definately looks like seniors material to me. McLaren looks fine. Sav in particular looks really strong & powerful & so here's hoping that he capitalizes on that this season. Sinclair was a little showy & took an @rsey little snap for goal during their scratch match. I didn't recognise Harris this time, I'm sorry to report. I was hoping to get a good look at Corey Jones but he didn't participate. Little Motlop is in Darwin for the game up there this week.

I'll just have to get back down to training again soon when Duck & a couple of the other noticable absentees are back.
Next week they've got an intensive training week planned that I probably won't be able to get to myself, but there's a couple of things on from the week of the 5th of Feb at Whitten Oval & Royal Park that I hope to go along to.

So what's so good about Dees training, then? I'm not taking the p!ss, I seriously want to know. Having only watched one team train, I can't understand how anyone else's can be much different.

Trust me theirs is different. They dont do this pissweak training at 8am they train in afternoon 40 degrees heat. Usually 2-3 hours non stop, full on running, prac matches everything then after that more push-ups, sprints swimming etc they do everything and never slack off never even stop hardly just very hard at it. Ask Mags he has also seen the difference with Melbournes training.

Still Roos were also very good.

Oh yeah? Interesting how others go about it then I suppose.

Our boys do their main group thing but its my understanding that they split up into their groups at other times to do specialist training like ruck coaching or whatever. Sometimes at the group training you'll see certain players pulled aside for one on one coaching. Then at other times some boys will muck around for a while after the session is officially over & practice kicking torps or whatever. Simmo stayed back with a trainer on Friday morning to practice some long kicking.

Spider Burton commented last year that coming from Freo, he was surprised that our players were so disciplined in doing personal fitness work in their own time. He was shocked that we didn't even have a weights coach & its up to the blokes to take the initiative to do it themselves. We do have a boxing coach though, and a boxing ring is set up in the gym under the grandstand at Arden Street. I guess that gets a lot of use...

yeh at Melbourne they sometimes have the young Sandy boys training off in their own group and then one or two older Dees players often just run laps and go for their swim early not to burn out and stuff. Heaps of clubs rested their star players and gave them longer holidays at the start of pre-season like Bucks and Crawf.

Sav is looking great, in fact all the bigger guys seem to be doing really well in training (let's hope they do just as well for the real games).

A funny moment last Wednesday night at training is when Sav kicked a goal and did the "Leyton Hewitt" fist back to his face......
