Have no fears, Radar!!

My comments are related to the fairer sex. Brent certainly doesn't qualify for that category. He's all yours!! ;)

IMO Talking about struggling at training, both Hudson and Dabrowski are still finding training at AFL level a really big step up from VFL and SANFL respectively. Dabrowski in particular looked really buggered yesterday.

Thanks for the feedback

Seems a lot of clubs stagger the degree of training based on number of years on the list.
Indicating new draftees normally do about 40% compared with the main list.

Macca, does Adelaide follow this policy as well or are Watts, Krueger, Dabrowski, Hudson... doing the same level of training as main group.?

Instead, this is the first time he has had to do it and its caught up with him.

Doesn't explain his apparent inability to put on muscle

I can't answer what happened before Christmas, but they are now. Watts and Krueger are both doing it on their ear. Krueger is a born athlete, and Watts as an 18 year old tall has amazed everybody with his outstanding work ethic which has seen him handle it comfortably.

Given my suggestion of Bock as FB was not given universal approval, and given his good PS, which position is he best suited, and who will he displace (if anyone) from our best 22?

It's going to be hard for Bock to get a spot, given that we had a good defence last year, and that's his most likely spot IMO.

He could play as a 3rd tall, but it seems that Scott Stevens was recruited for that role.

His most likely spot IMO is to play as a tall HB flanker, and would have had a real crack at that if Smarty had retired. I guess he'll just have to wait for the right chance to come up, given that Bassett, McGregor, Smart, Hart, Scott Stevens, Torney, Massie, Edwards and Begley are all ahead of him based on last year.

His inability to put on muscle is due to his back. He has a problem with a disc in his back which restricts him in amount of weight training that he can do. Majority of our youngsters, such as Watts, Krueger, Bock, Scott Stevens, etc., do weights 4 times a week. Hentschel does it twice a week due to his back which has to be carefully managed.

Last year he broke down in a kicking drill. He went down like he was shot after taking a kick.

As macca said this is his 1st pre-season where he hasn't had an injury and it might have caught up with him a little. I have no doubt the club has great confidence in him and will persist with him. He has greater potential than Ken McGregor, yet they persisted with Kenny for 5 years or so.

He will come good in time. Darren Jarman was shocking on the track in pre-season training but we all know how good a footballer he was.;)

Gee, Watts & Krueger seem to be making a good fist of their first PS.
I admire what Hentschell brings to the table, and I certainly understand the club being patient.

But there appears to be a lot of excuses being made, and sometime he just will need to stand up and deliver - and this year is critical for himself.

We were forced to play Kenny, not based on his SANFL form which was ordinary, but due to lack of talls. To his credit he has worked damm hard on his fitness and speed and is starting to get the recognition. That work ethic I do not see with Hentschell.

Ever had a serious back injury??????

I injured my back back in highschool. I was going up for a lay up and this gorilla made a big foul which landed me on my back. After a lot of physio and treatments its improved a bit BUT I still have to be extremely careful with what i do It takes over your life mate.

There are no excuses just the facts. Mark Stevens didn't have 2 pre-seasons because of a back injury. Peter Caven had a dodgy back as did Gary Lyon. He will take longer than some of the other players simply because he cannot do as much work as a "normal" individual. Its called being on modified program. He had a crap pre-season last year yet he still managed to have a good year with the Eagles and play 3 AFL games.

He needs to pull his finger out but Watts and Krueger do not carry the same sort of injury as Hentschel.

I

No, But then I'm not trying to play AFL as a professionally paid athlete.

I know its a hard line, but there are only 38 spots on a list open, and players like Parker, champing to get on the list.
We all felt for Fitzy and Crowell, but at the end of the day the Crows have shown, they can't afford to be too sentimental.

I really want Hentschell to make it, don't get me wrong, but ultimately he will be judged on what he does, not what he could have done but for....

Gee, Stiffy, you were very lucky that it wasn't your front back that you injured!! :D

Being serious, a bad back can feel like death, and I think there's a good chance that Hentschel feels his a fair bit. I saw him go down last year with it as if he was shot, and all he did was a regulation kick of the ball, which suggests there is a very major weakness there.

That would also explain his average running and inability to use weights to bulk up.

If his back is this bad, then it's very doubtful if he will ever reveal his true potential.

Good stuff macca - Things are sweet eh?

I love your words around Perrie - Ive admired him from day 1 even when he couldnt kick- Great on the lead!! Should have a big year.

Just on Scott Stevens...wont he be a backman? There would be no room for him as a forward.

If all of our forward options are available there's no gig there for Scott Stevens.

His most likely role is as a 3rd tall down back.

I can see Ayres playing him as a fill in up forward though if injuries demand. That's when every good Catholic girl and boy will be reaching for the rosary beads if he has a shot for goal!! ;)

Would prefer him play the percentages & hanball to Macca to have a shot on the run. ;)
