I'm told the boys had to kick on their 'non preferred' foot (I gather this drill doesn't apply to Sam Mitchell) and even take kicks for goal on their non preferred side. If so, this is good.
This could apply to Hartung too. Kicks both sides. I'm getting very excited about Billy. Two reports in a row that are glowing. Does Hill have a niggle? If so Hartung looks a certainty for round 1. Like a poster said the other day having the three runners would be awesome vs Port.

Im mega excited by Billy...didnt know he was great on his left also so this just adds to his potential massively. Each and every bit of news about him thus far has been full of praise; im not sure ive heard as much about a young player's rise over preseason for a while. Lovin it

I can imagine how good a fast-paced game v Port with Billy in it also will be. A cracker of a game to behold, bring it on already

Seems to be almost as much praise for Lithers too

Really? Ive missed it then. Thought he was quietly going along. Love Lithers, some say too much as am looking at him replacing Suckers sooner than later as discuseed on another thread.

Before the Seniors came back there was a bit of talk about him and his determination/leadership in the pre-season training. I like Lithers too. Stood up in that GWS game where we played with a very depleted team. Love how he takes on opposing defensive forwards and wins. Got the goods.

Litherland's manic dash from defence reminds a li'l of Trent Croad, especially when he runs his measure then roosts it long for distance. He's an inch taller than Croad (6kg lighter) but wouldn't have near Croad's leap or strength, yet I see him as closer to a Croad type than a Gibbo-type; more a contested/lock-down player than an intercept/rebound/link-up player.

The German Runner' had 16 disposal til half time against Port early in the season and finished with over 20 plus a goal..so yeah, with a bit more confidence and game time this kid could be anything!

If that's true that's awesome

I didn't see it but I know the person who reported it too me and has watched a lot of Hawthorn training over the years so I have absolutely no doubt it is 100% true (and otherwise I wouldn't have said it anyway)

They have done this at training before.

It is a drill, goes for 8-15 minutes as they do the ball rotation around the field. I was also told part of this drill was they forced to kick for goal, under pressure with their no preferred foot.

Imagine if we get a team of guys who can kick as well on either foot like a Sam Mitchell! Dare to Dream cos that is a wonderful dream.

I'm definitely on the Billy bandwagon as well. Ever since we recruited him I got a sense that he may become a slighter version of Brent Harvey. I have a feeling that in a few years time, supporters will be wondering how he slipped to 24 in the draft when at one stage he was rated in the top 15. Billy really seems to be the protocol midfield player for the current form of the game - fast, huge tank, excellent skills and versatile, can kick with both feet and looks like he can play several different positions.

Yep Brent Harvey immediately springs to mind, as does the potential to become a true rover which im salivating at.

To boot with what uve stated, he seems very professional, hungry, focussed, smart, and level-headed and i reckon he has strong belief that he belongs in the team.

The reports from some of the seniors suggest he's all but on the doorstep of playing regularly. Hartung, Langers, Lithers, Doc and JOR et all bring it on!

Thanks for the brill update...Cryptor.....Any sign of Stratts....
He was out there. Lost him in the crowd of medium height, dark haired white guys we seem to have an abundance of lol. Sometimes no news is good news though.

Those 3 are definitely going to be hard to keep out.
Duryea I wasn't keeping an eye on and he left the track early.
JOR, I didn't recognise but all other reports seem to suggest that he is.

No problems everyone! I hang out for these reports from other posters every preseason. Was a pleasure to write it. In fact I just copied my post into a word counter and it's well over 2000 words. Didn't feel like that much when I wrote it. Wish my essays back in uni were that easy and enjoyable to write! I'd spend a painful few days trying to smash out an essay that length at uni.

Yeah, shame they never had a degree in Hawthornology at Uni :D

I saw a bit last Wednesday (when it was stinking hot!) when I went over to get something from Hawks Nest but really struggled to tell who was who and could not make head or tail of the drills. I did enjoy the scratch match they played at the end and it was a bit easier to identify people then from their kicking styles etc. Couldn't provide a detailed report like some of you do though, suffice to say they all looked good :thumbsu:
