Thanks SR! Appreciate the articulate response. It’s a valid view!!

My issue with Gini is that Hill provides a balance between what he provides and Mccreery.
Given no one does what Beau does….and the fact Adams seems to be playing fwd more….

When I look at the structure of the team that gives us the best look…Gini just doesn’t have the strings the others do….time will tell. But he’s not the lock everyone thinks he is without performances behind him (like last year)….
Agree, but the same goes for Beau - Adams up forwad is more Beau like than Ginni like. We're fortunate to now have a strong enough list that we may have to leave out a bloke with weapons - be it Beau, Ginni or one of the excess mids.

How many other forwards on our list have and are capable of kicking 40+?
Is this the 80’s/ 90’s/00’s?

Why didn’t we have Dane swan 40+ disposals every game?

Game has moved on…”who” gets on the end of it is irrelevant.
The “kicker of the goal” is usually just the end of the play…accuracy matters….but not the numbers (apart from legit contested marks).

Beau is harder to judge for mine.
Adams up fwd is about switching with Tich…
So the question. Really becomes Adams/tich (50/50) vs Gini 100%.

Don’t think we’ll ever find out due to injury. But it’s a good reason why Gini is playing midfield in training…

Rubbish, of course it’s relevant. It’s not easy to be in the right place so often, and Ginni does that a lot, it’s a skill in itself as a forward. Running patterns, knowing where to be and when to be there. There aren’t a whole lot of small forwards in the game who can get 40 goals in a year, let alone 19 year old ones. If it was so easy for any player to do, then outside of key talls, genuine forwards would be defunct and you’d have 4-5 mids rotating through. That doesn’t happen though, because those guys like Ginni who have an innate sense of where to be as a forward are genuinely valuable.

My view is a bit different to others.

The way I see it, this was our forward line last year:

Ginnivan Elliott Johnson
Lippa (changing with JDG) Mihocek Beau
WHE as rotation plus wing

I think our forward line will be:

? McStay ?
Elliott Mihocek ?
? rotation plus wing

I think Reef will take one of those question marks. Then you've got Hill, Beau, Ginni and if fully fit two excess mids competing for the other two question marks - that's before you factor in kids coming through who might jummp into the equation - an injured Lippa eleviates the selction pressure, but it's still there.

How many were after the tightening of the rules?
Ps not as many as you think!

I’m surprised you’re missing the point here,..
Do you think he’ll kick 40 this year?
Why would you care on the number he kicks?
It’s such a folly. It’s actually funny that people still care about the number of goals.

Being on the end of it can be attributed to luck and laziness to push back. Or his role to push fwd when he sees a 50/50 and thinks we’ll win. When we win…he gets on the end of it…tick.
How many did he give away because of it?
I saw plenty where he backed the team to win the 50/50….which is all on him. But I also saw him give up plenty.
So where is that stat?

Or do we still think that “40” is only one way And job done?!?

Agree 100%
We are all of a sudden in a good spot.
Coaching (natural progression) and then trading has all of a sudden created demand in this area of weakness last year.

I’d be happy with any of that combo (without seeing guys play)….so it bodes well as it’s unlikely we’ll ever be fully stocked!

I think you’re seriously underselling Ginni’s goal kicking. And let’s not forget those 40 goals came without him getting any respect from the men in white.

Are you seriously suggesting that 40 goals a year or as you like to put it "40" in quotation marks is insignificant.
How many small forwards achieve that?
And you don't achieve 40 goals through "luck and laziness". If you could then coaches would be telling their players to be lazy and rely on luck. That way every player would be kicking 40 goals.

I don't have an issue with your criticism about the defensive side of his game, but to dismiss a 19 year old who kicked 40 goals in a season is a bit strange.

Couldn't agree more about improved depth quality - it truly is a relief.

Just watched the Tommy and DeGoo podcast.

How lucky are we to have Fly and Jackie at the club?

Absolutely top shelf quality people who are turning the culture of the club around from every report that comes out of there.
Don’t dispute that they are, problem I have with this narrative is that it implies that Buckley was not good quality?

Bucks had the toughest time of any coach in living memory…most of which was out of his control. Hird with the Bumpers maybe the only exception although I’d argue that his pain as a coach was short and sharp.

In any case Buckley always conducted himself with dignity and integrity…that to me is a super human good quality person!

Did the boys train today?

yup. Was a good session
No indication which way with the last spot in defence, but appears WHE will fill the Lippa role.

So WHE spends pre-season training on HBF then reverts to previous HFF position for the real thing? Interesting! Presumably only a short-term thing until Ginni back in.

Yeah. He's prob lucky that Ginni and Lippa aren't available.

This convoluted logic, and focus on irrelevant issues, to detract from what Ginnivan offers, lacks both substance and credibility

With Mitchell now in the 22, Adams could become that pressure forward.

If Adams has to play, then I'd personally prefer him forward.

His disposal can't hurt if he's playing as a small pressure forward.

Yeah. He's prob lucky that Ginni and Lippa aren't available.

WHE is a very different player to both of them though.

WHE won’t get enough of it to adequately replace Lippa. I reckon Josh Daicos is the closest like-for-like.

We’ll need Josh to suffer acute leather-poisoning this season to make up for Lippa’s lengthy absence.
