From all his interviews, it's pretty clear that Darcy Moore loves playing footy and has come to love being a part of a team. Who knows how long that will continue. One things for sure though, unless it's injuries that curtail him, it's going to take an enormous amount of physical decline before Darcy Moore begins to physically struggle with the demands of the game. He's athletically awesome.

And despite many of the new breed not living and breathing football, careers of good players are extending longer and longer than they used to with 30 no longer being a pivotal age of decline, because they just prepare so much better than they used to.
So many variables to consider but he's a intelligent and very presentable guy - give him a premiership medallion or two and a a flag or two and I can see him being targeted by corporations wanting to capitalize on his high profile and presentation.

I don’t know how right I am, but I think players that have fewer clear pathways post-footy are probably the ones that are more likely to try and squeeze that extra couple of years out.

Pendles is fine he’ll get a coaching gig, maybe some commentating gigs. But the majority of ex-footy players don’t get jobs in the industry, that number of jobs don’t exist.

Players like Darc and BG are academically inclined as well as athletic. They both have degrees already and are midway through Masters degrees. I think it probably makes them less likely to push on when they’re getting tired because they have alternative career pathways that are viable and lucrative in their own right.

Alternatively, Jack Crisp as an example, is a Personal Trainer. Money-wise, he’s unlikely to make anything near what he’s making now post-footy, and he’ll probably work hard to stay in the game as long as he can to set himself up.

Personally I hope Darc plays until he’s 40, I’ll be devastated when he’s gone. I reckon after this contract though he’ll do a year or two more at the most.

My general line of thinking too GC I vividly remember my father hitting his 40's and still competing at State/National level but Gymnastics is a discipline that is insanely demanding and it required sheer bloody-mindedness for him to remain competitive.

Don't know. I think it comes down to how long they continue to enjoy it. Mason Cox probably falls into a similar boat and he's still suiting up despite probably not being on great money and being on the fringe of the team.

That's the key sr - if the game still draws them they'll most likely keep playing but those with good professional lives waiting outside footy are more likely to leave the game once the injuries start to catch up to them.

Do you have inside information or are we writing fantasy novels now? The next Game of Thrones?

No but he starred in a modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Personally I preferred him in Pirates of the Caribbean.

I think we might lose Moore, McReery and Kreuger to the next series of Vikings. Wilson has a bit of scope too.

I follow the big fella on social media and Mason has very much fallen in love with the media/social media industry (particularly in relation to footy but as we know he's well travelled and loves a chat with anyone about anything) and looks to be setting himself up for a career post-footy. Makes sense from that perspective to play out the wild and unexpected footy ride he's been on while he sets himself up in other avenues.

An incredible turn of events for a walk-on centre at OSU who was going to be an engineer.

I reckon he's going to have a massive impact on our game post playing career, and make a sh1t-ton of coin in the process

Mason has a career post-footy. He's the type of bloke you want at a footy club. After footy, Coxy will be able to float around and work for a variety of clubs. I could even see him becoming an assistant coach. He's the first American to achieve something of note in the AFL and will remain relevant for a while yet.

I'd say the salary he receives from the club is unders, but he's got a lot of projects and deals on the side that he'd earn a fair bit from.
