List management had a choice last year to not renew his contract...........they gave him an extra year.
So I guess that either some of us here are wrong or the SOS and co. are wrong. Which one may it be?
or maybe we had so many to get rid of he survived and being a younger player was given one last chance?

Boekhorst can play and he can mark. Just seems to have gone too koala for my liking. Maybe it's just his nature....I don't know.
I am yet to see any evidence of that at any level. When has he played ONE good game? There has been some moments but that's about it. 24 this year so needs to happen

Sure. Reckon SOS would have got rid of more of he could, but he couldn't.
You simply cannot do it all in one fell swoop nor should he have been allowed to.

I know that players Boekhorst & Jaksch have ability beyond that they have shown to date.
Maybe it will come through this year and maybe it won't. If one finally makes good, then that's a start.

Just on Boekhorst though; He was out for a large part of last year and did play with an arm in discomfort. Maybe we've forgotten.

24 & 23 this year. It's time.

They all have ability. It's how they got picked. Some just don't step up and any flaws really whow up at this level. Both have some qualities but for me the negatives far outway the positives with these 2 and we now have a number of players challenging for positions.

For them to stay they now not only have to greatly improve but they need to stay ahead of the new crop of kids and that will be hard.

Yes but after seasons end. They'll be playing out the year as 23 & 22 year olds. :)

Not necessarily. A lot of meat & potatoes also get picked up along the way.
You may cite that they were both early selections and that's where your argument carries more weight.

I know Jaksch's issues but not so much Boekhorsts, other than to know he's not everyones favourite at the club.
Again, they have the talent and I know that guarantees little. Maybe if they trusted themselves a little more, they'd be doing better. We'll see.

Enigma. If he wants it enough something has to change. Someone suggested you can coach anything - can't coach a hard-edge. He needs to accumulate another 6-10 damaging possessions. Chases well we know, kicking excellent, links beautifully but is he willing to hurt himself like the gut-running Bradley or the fear-no-danger Simpson? Is a bit brittle which will always work against him. Forget the mo and the hairstyle, get on with the basic skills and running and team-plan things. He may make it but I am not 100% confident that he will. Has to do everything spot-on from here to the extent he can't be forced out of the team and if that happens we will have a pretty fair player.
We have such a long list of fringe players...
which will be gradually filtered out......filter in and filter out
haha..

A few posters have said Willaimson looks elite and possible 22..
To be honest he stood out at training..big,defined for his age and fast and good skills,...HOWEVER when it came to game simulation he struggles with clanger kicks and just generally terrible..he is a great athlete however will need a lot of work...

I disagree on this point. They have some talents but not enough to be good AFL players. They both also seem to lack the mental toughness. It's hard to really know looking from the outside but what they have produced so far is a long long way off what they need to produce. It's a big step up from average VFL player to good AFL player.

My concern is that they will show bit and pieces that makes people think they may make it. A bit like DVR last year. People wanted to give him another chance but he even wasn't close. Reality is that even at their age they should be showing a lot more and from afar I see too many obvious flaws. If we were a top 8 list year I reckon they would be gone already.

Yeah I think we shouldn't get carried away until we see these guys actually play. I like what we have done with our later draft picks, we have gone for players with a high ceiling. But I tend to think players go late in the draft / rookie draft for a reason. It will be a big win if just one of those later picks become 200 game players. SPS, Fisher, and Macreadie have a lot more runs on the board.

I thought Boekhorst was great before he hurt himself. Sadly he doesn't seem very resilient but surely people see the talent.
Great?

Is it because we have been so bad for so long we will see any player do something good we already we have a star?

As I said I hope they make it. The more the better for us all around. I just see too many issues in their games to make it at AFL level. It's a tough business and I see a number of players that will step straight past them in 2017.

He brings something we need but he is underage and was just starting to find his feet at Under 18 level. Kid has some special talent but its now about showing it and I reckon he is still 12 months away. If he can have a good development year at the NB's I'd be happy

You weren't alive in 2007/2008? You are very mature for your age, keep up the good work young fella!
:) Dropped out of football altogether, between 2000-2007.
Almost gave it up again, but when they set-up a committee to appoint a new coach, I chose to hang around a little longer.

Hope alone will get me nowhere, but I'll be a very happy lad, should at least one of Jaksch or Boekhorst come through.
Reckon Jaksch has slightly the better chance just for now.

Took a nice mark in front of Gorringe on Wednesday. Thought he looked OK through the limited drills we saw.........and he can kick.

My view on Boekhorst is that he does have the tools for AFL if he wants it bad enough. Same goes for Jaksch, he has been a waste of talent thus far. Not really counting on either making it but it would be great if one of them could.

Haha, I just thought you were so traumatised that you completely erased Ackland from your memory. It would've been understandable really.

OK. We did keep Buckley & Graham on also, but they were largely fillers when we couldn't exploit the drafts any further.

Are you saying he is high on gum leaves?

Agree if 1 of Polson, Kerr , Wilimson or Les Bois can be come a 200 gamer it will be a huge bonus.
The real issue though is to get one of Fisher or Macreadie to 200 plus player.
Our recruiting has be very weak at the middle or later in the draft,

It snows at Trentham, games get called off because players have frostbite and you can't see 35 metres across the ground. Need to call which end you kick it to and hope someone is listening and can find the pill.
Try Omeo - kangaroo poo all over the ground and ******* freezing - will never forget it

Realistically we need five of the last year's draftees/trades to have successful careers at the club, and the same goes for the previous year. We are starting from a long way back. We have to pin our hopes on 'potential' to at least some extent. How many changes did we make in the last two years and how many of those can we afford to drop out? Age suggests that Silvagni 'the other' and Palmer probably won't be around for the long hall.

Boekhorst is an interesting one, he's shown some really nice attributes in patches but got lost for form and confidence in others. I don't have the line through his name yet, but it's looking an uphill battle for him. Wonder if that 4 week wrist has become one of those chronic injuries that never gets shaken off? Good luck to him for the season, the more pressure from beneath the better.
