Korcheck's issue is and always will be the same: time. There are so many little nuances to our game, technical skills and abilities that you must execute all at once, that make it difficult for mature aged guys to pick up. He's had no exposure to the game until 18-odd months ago and is coming from such a long way back getting decent footy out of him at VFL level would be extraordinary. He's too late to the game and will require patience that won't be rewarded.

What I saw of him last year was hardly revaltory. Marking was inconsistent. Skills poor. Decision making very stop start. The mechanics of the game demand a fluency I don't believe he'll be capable of. It doesn't matter what league or level you play at, the more guys you have incapable of contributing meaningfully no justifying their place in the side - the more guys others have to carry - the less competitive you'll be.

The Irish guys get it because the DNA of the two games is quite similar; in fact, one could argue the helter skelter, no stoppage nature of Gaelic football means your decision making under pressure must be exceptional. Therefore once they get to AFL some aspects of the game are actually a little slower for them.
I have to say, MC, when you put someone to bed it's for keeps.

Boekhorst honestly gives me the impression that he couldn't give two shits if he has a successful AFL career or not (which is fine, it's not the life for everyone).

Reckon he'd be just as happy going back to Perth and rolling around in the WAFL whilst working on his hipster game after hours.
How so?
And hipster?...again how so?

Let me try and bracket them and happy to be wrong:

Gone: Jones, Gorringe, Lamb, Gallucci = 4
On a knifes edge: Buckley, Graham, Boekhorst, ASilvagni, Jaksch, Korchek = 6
Possibly to be let go: Rowe, White, Thomas, Casboult = 4
Possible retirees: Simpson, Armfield = 2

There's 16 players just for starters, that may be hard to argue about not being there in 2018.
If Thomas wants to go on he should offer to play for free............

I don't share your same optimism Shan. The worst aspect of his game is his unwillingness to put his head over the footy when its his turn to go. I saw him pull out of at least two contests in 2016 when he was going to get body contact.
Not sure when you saw these two plays, but I will say Boekhorst really struggled when he came back after that wrist injury.
You could see he was really trying to protect it and he just looked nothing like the player who had 32 damaging touches Vs the Swans in a NAB cup game.
Really hoping he can make it, our midfield is in major need of players with leg speed and kicking skills.

Boekhorst is Kane Lucas 2.0.

The previous recruitment regime wholly ignored the mental aspects of the game, hence we acquired a bunch of skillful, yet lacking draftees. The new bunch seem to have their head screwed on the right way.

The list is where it is won and lost..
we dont have an academy with available recruits
our northern side has also been turned over every year and average,
We have stopped quick fixes and playing off a few elites..
We have a coach who trains the boys hard with a contemporary game plan......taking what we can
SOS will keep turning over the list..at least for another two years
Its going to be training and recruitment....perhaps for the sake of stability only short term
Like Bolts said reward for effort...we have a great club and faith should not be an issue
Need some continuity in the list as well, 15 new players every year is not helpful to the team learning each others playing style etc. It is needed now to fix the recruiting (and possibly development) issues from years past, cannot go on forever. Hoping after the 2017 trading and post season we will see a drop off to about 6-8 new players per year. It will mean we have the right mix, just need to replace those retiring and tweaking the areas we need to improve.

3 years of slash and burn might be enough.

Yeah that's the sort of thing I am talking about though - it's mental. The skills are there, it's just application of those skills that is required.

Definitely and it's just so ridiculous when you look back at it that they didn't learn...

Others that fall into this category include other top picks...Bootsma, Watson, Yarran, Menzel, Jaksch...all talented but all lacking in the mental aspects of the game. Just so, so bad.

It's time for one of two things!

Time for a can of concrete, to harden the #%£€ up.

Or, off to the house of mirrors, for a long hard look at yourself!!!!!

Yes, i remember you saying this quite recently.
Didn't you say that he pulled out once, not at least twice?
Nevermind, maybe a team mate called him out of the contest?

32 touches in a game played at 75% intensity just about sums him up.
