Went to Punt Rd and found Nason and Griff doing drills with the trainer. Waited for 30 mins and no one else came out :/

Out of morbid interest, how is Grigg training with you guys?

I called him for being a lazy and uninterested trainer many times over on our board, so chances are if he puts in more than he showed with us, you may just have aquired a "good one"

spoke to shaun last wednesday & he said that its the hardest pre-season he has ever participated in.

also mentioned he missed the boat cruises but. ;)

I went to the open session today and it was really enjoyable.

Notable absentees from what I could tell where Lids and Dusty. Just a light run for most of the boys, and a few drills. Atmosphere was good with plenty of noise out there.

Big Gus was doing laps for nearly all of training. Jack, Astbury, Rance and Griff stayed out a bit longer and worked on a few things, they seemed a pretty tight group. At the end they were doing gridiron throws and measuring them to see who could throw the longest and some of them distances were unbelievable, I think 55m was the furthest throw.

Houli looked slimmer than I thought, Foley looked good, Nason seems to have put on a little weight. Conca looked right at home in amongst it.

One thing I was surprised about, near the end a few of the bigger boys were doing marking practice over someone with a big padded bag round thier shoulders. They were taking screamers over him for 15 minutes or so and to my surprise the guy with the bag was none other than Dimma!!!!

Campbell seemed to be running the session with Dimma looking on.

Here ya go lads. Went down for the first time ever today and unfortunately made the rookie mistake of not bringing a pen and paper to write things down so I'll just go through the players as I saw them.

Players I didn't see: Lids, Martin, Edwards, Jackson, McGuane, Moore, Thursfield, Taylor

My general impression of the training session was excellent, there was a lot of talk between the boys which was good but it also seemed really fun (or more than I expected it would be).

Cotchin - Very, very impressive. Looked sharp, was very vocal. Sprayed (not by much) one kick but was generally pinpoint and was often involved in a rebound 50 drill they did.

Nason - Was pleasantly surprised. If I was being honest, I've never really rated him and thought he would be overtaken for a spot in our 22. Is super quick but kicked the ball well.

Houli - I'm a little biased cos I've always been a big fan of this guy but very much liked what I saw. He's a pretty big unit and obviously very well conditioned. Nice skills but thinks his way through situations. In the rebound 50 drill he and cotch combined to get the ball down the other end. He not only understood what cotch was doing and what he would do next but kept his head and thought about what he was doing until the best option became available.

Rance - Is built like a tank. Took some strong marks and stuck around at the end of the session with JR, Astbury and Griffo taking shots from the pocket. In one cycle he was the only one to kick through the big sticks:eek:. I would be surprised if he doesn't hold down a key back spot this year.

Foley - So good to see him out there again, here's hoping he stays out of the rehab group for many years to come. Looks to have put on some upper body weight (although I haven't seen the bloke for 2 years so maybe he hasn't). Looked to move unimpeded and still has plenty of zip and kicked pretty well.

Newman - Silky smooth. Was very vocal but for me the highlight was his kicking. They got what looked like hockey goals and had some target practice at several distances and he was amazing clean.

JR - Was very vocal. Doesn't look like he's lost weight. Took some great hangers on the other side of the ground and was generally pretty impressive.

Miller - Was not a fan of us recruiting him but I don't think he'll hurt our team in any way. Not as big as I thought but can take a grab, can't remember how his goalkicking was but was friendly in the car park so he's garnered my favour for now :D

Astbury - Liked the look of him. Has put on some weight, marked strongly and has a nice kicking action.

Griffin - Don't think I realised how big he was. Also has a really nice kicking action which showed in the goal-kicking drills when slotted a few from distance. He also unleashed a long torp through the big sticks.

Conca - Wasn't overly impressed with him. At times he looked a bit lost and he shanked a few kicks but I'm more than happy to give him time.

Gus - Ran laps for the last 30 mins.

Post and Helbig (I think) did 200s for the last 20 mins. Was impressed with post's pace kept up with helbig for most of the time.

That's about all I can think of at the moment, fire away with questions and I'll do my best to answer them.
