Mega Thread TRAINING REPORTS

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I joined IrishDocker at training today. We met a new chum who might join in here at Big Footy. There was a poor turnout from the Big Footy contingent - no sign of the great effort that Ross looks for.

The only additions I have to yakka man are that I did not see Ibbo or Zac Dawson train.

Zac Dawson did a little bit. But mainly rehab group. He looked fine though.

Dawson trained but I agree with you Harry very light session but the guys where quite noisy and very cheerful with each others company when they first got on the oval .

Just a great look for the team getting ready to play finals

. I spoke to Ballas about that running goal against GWS and he said that "there was no way he was looking to pass the ball once he got going ,all he could see was 2 big sticks ";):thumbsu: .

Hill trained with the main group and was moving quite well ,no sign of injury . He was also doing some sprits ,gees he can get going when he wants to .

Sandi looks real good and was practicing his goal kicking .

Simpson looks like he is over any issues he might have had .

Silvagni trained with the main group and RTB was quite vocal during some of the match sims .

Suban was mixing it with the rest iof the mids and is looking very much at ease in there .

Crozier was working quite hard and was very impressive by hand and foot . He was the standout performer for me in the session today
Sherridan and Suitcliffe trainer with the main group as well .

No sign of Elvis on the track but Kepler was doing weights and talking with the trainers .

Had a bit of a laugh with Kirky about his family and one of the old timers asked if he was gunna try to add to his flock of 5, he said not way but was enjoying the exercise LOL:).

I got a glimpse of Tanner Smith today. He didn't have his shoulder in a sling but his operated shoulder has wasted away quite a lot. His right arm was quite solid but his left looked so skinny. It will take a while for him to build it back up.

Simpson looks like he is over any issues he might have had .

Really? From what I saw he barely got out of first gear and ran about 100m in the whole session. Looked very proppy.

The old timer I was taking to is at every training session and regularly talks to Simmo .
He was very up beat and said Simpson is in real good shape and ready to play WAFL or anywhere else RTB wants him to play .

Interesting that we occasionally hear that Keps is about the place, but don't seem to spot Griffin. Both got injured about the same time, is Grif around or is he just going about things differently?

I wasn't able to make training yesterday so apologies for the lack of a training report on Friday. Great work by the other posters though so that I can now get an update on who trained.

Griff is in the gym and pool only at this stage of his rehab, but I often spot him watching training from the doorway leading into the change rooms.

I've had a quick chat to Kep's a couple of times and he is very up beat and doing all the right things , the coaches are impressed with his recovery .

He's a really nice guy , always a smile and quick with a joke .
The main thing he's happy with is how the boys are playing and how he can't wait to get out there and play with them .

Nobody's posted anything so just a quick summary -

Light session today, the boys popped out later than usual. Mayne came out early to run a few laps and do some warm ups, what I would suspect is our first choice on-ball unit (Barlow, Fyfe, Mundy, Suban, Crowls) came out and were discussing positioning and strategy at stoppages (by the looks of it) - couldn't hear much of the discussion but it looked like it involved angles and movement. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall of that discussion. Dawson was out walking the 50 in the meantime kicking a ball to himself like a lonely schoolkid :(

Smith, Keps popped out of the gym to say hi - Keps cracking jokes.

Rehab group appeared to consist of Menegola, Chrichton, Simpson, Ibbo, Clancee.

McPharlin was doing repeat lengths of the oval.

Main group did a variety of drills - mostly handball work. Sutcliffe was working with Kirky for a while 1 on 1 doing a variety of drills.

Number swaps -

Johnno was wearing Griff's
Sheridan was wearing Pitt's
Mundy was wearing Sandilands
Ballas was wearing Hill's

Incidentally - Ballas wearing Hill's number was comical - he was running a bit proppy like a lame midget duck compared to the grace of Hill. Favouring his right side - hopefully he'll come good soon.

Hill did train with the main group incidentally - he was with Walters, Silvagni, Moller, and 2 others doing fast handball work. They'd get in a semi circle and keep firing off handballs at one guy one after another until he stuffed up.

DeBoer, Mz, Mundy, Crowls did a drill together handballing across each other - trying to get their handballs to hit each other to stuff up the guys receiving. Crowls is giggly at training - good to see them having some fun

Pretty relaxed session all up - not much to report - just drill work and the rehab group doing run throughs.

Did you take your papparazi camera down to training?

That onball discussion - the midfield coach was walking around that taller guy in the middle (not sure who he was) discussing things. Dawson in the background feeling left out

Its hard to make out from the photo but I believe that is Michael Dobbin standing along with Stoney.

Great to hear that McPharlin is running again, will be back for round 23 I'd say.
Yep, they will only get one go at this so they will hold him back to the last minute. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get half a game against Saints and get subbed if we are leading well in the second half. THE most vital player going into September.

Agree big time, especially playing against the top 3 teams who have power forwards.

Although we did beat the Cats in the finals last year without him. Extremely important player but I'd still say our captain Pavlich is the most important piece of the puzzle going into September. If he can hit his straps again like he did in that Elim final last year then our scoring power steps up another notch.

I'd put McPharlin, Ballantyne and Mundy all ahead of Pavlich in the important for finals stakes.
