I'd put McPharlin, Ballantyne and Mundy all ahead of Pavlich in the important for finals stakes.
No No No.
It's not that Pavlich per se is vital in that he is champ of champs but more so that he is the only key forward on the list cable of pivoting our structure off and attracting defenders who might otherwise be peeling off to break up contests. Nobody is going to think twice about running off Silvagni or Tabs, or even Keps if he was fit. But Pav, even 31 and not match fit, he can't be left one out. Structure! The fact that he is Pav is just a bonus

Good job everyone heading down to training in my absence. Between Uni, work, the flu and car problems I haven't been able to get there. I may be able to come on Thursday before Uni if they are at Freo.

I'd have Luke and Ballas ahead of Pav but not Mundy. How bad was our forward pressure when Ballas was injured/suspended? Then you have Luke's ability to stop the key forwards which gives more stability to the defence than SCOS does.

I amust admit to being irrationally worried about McP being underdone and getting exposed in the QF, he actually had a few sub-par (by his lofty standards) weeks before he got injured.

True but he may have had tired legs, hope he comes in with a fresh pair of heels :)

i'd argue that ballentyne/Pav's worth is at parity. Ballentyne needs Pav to bring the ball down, Pav would also need ballentyne to cover some defender's space.

as his buddy.. though it should be noted that Pavlich is THE single most important player ever to play the game...

We have played almost a complete season without Pav this year and the forward structure has worked out not to bad without him BUT with out BALLAS it has struggled .

Without SUNSUN and BALLAS we wouldn't be where we are .

BUT the glue that has held the forward line together and made the combinations work is MAYNE .
Record tackles for a forward , record score assists ,most accurate kick for goals in the league and all round nice, unassuming, modest guy ,alright maybe I went too far with the modest

Random CAPITALISATION does not give your argument any more POWER. What is our average score in matches that BALLAS has played but not Pav, Pav has played but not Ballas or BOTH HAVE played?

Well, it seems that Ballas isn't important enough to spell his name correctly, so there goes your parity.

The number of goals is very important , the number of goal scorers in the match is vital .

The quality of the opposition makes a difference in the number of goals we have scored .
Against the better sides we struggled when Pav wasn't fit or not there due to being suspended .

The Eagles game we dominated in the midfield and our backline was supreme .
Essendon we let ourselves down because we didn't play 4 quarter football .
Hawthorn the players missing didn't help and same against Geelong .

With all the injuries we have had to endure throughout the year the team could have tossed in the towel

But the unlike the Eagles we are under RTB and we are a no excuses football team and club .

I'm not a numbers man and so I don't know what the answer is to your question ,I'm sure someone that is will give you the answer and its a good question another question is how many games have we lost when Ballas didn't play .

God Pavlich really seems to love playing finals. Exciting stuff (referencing the video linked).

Paving is vital to us in a finals situation. Small forward and tall backs we have some depth for even if we lose some quality. The structure will stand up. But Pavlich brings another dimension. A weapon, a match winner.

Yeah, just saying that, although he killed it against Geelong, he had a quiet one the following week.
He picked the injury up in that game against Geelong. Just prior to him kicking that magical sealer he was off the ground getting it looked at. May worried frowns that proved to be precient as he was on one leg the next week and making Talia look like SOS.

some of it was also gameplay - we were much more successful isolating him in the forward 50 against the cats but the crows picked up on that. all things conspired to reduce his effectiveness.

He was also double teamed by Talia and Rutten. He was clearly injured in that game after kicking 6 goals on Matthew Scarlett the week before. But yeah, both he and Silvagni had stinkers after playing blinders the week before.

Rutten I think, which was even more embarrassing. Talia had a broken arm, didn't play.
