Thought Drury and TT linked up well at times. It may be a sign of the future.

2-3 passages where they passed to each other out of defence, both with consecutive 25m low hard accurate kicks that beat the defensive zone.

Thought Goater was generally quiet compared to last week.

Will was quieter than last week as he was playing fourth banana to LDU, Simpkin, Cunners in the first half, I thought at the time he should have played in the yellow side, so it's good to read they swapped him at the half.

Paul Curtis has an absolutely massive ceiling, as big as TT and Goaters imo. He looked like a Rolls Royce clearing the ball cleanly out of the center bounces. Can already tell he's one of Clarko's favourites.

Speaking of Rolls Royces, LDU was absolutely imperious, I've always thought over the last 15 years or so what some of our sessions would look like if we dropped a Judd or Danger into them, well we know now. Simpkin and Cunners are good footballers and they looked like local footy players in comparison today. He's going to notch wins on his own this year.

Drury did well on Zurhaar, bull had his moments in attack, but he spread off him well. Quieter than last week, but still very influential.

Sheez is a really solidly built first year footballer. He impacted the contest a few times, stood up in tackles, went in hard and mixed with his class and engine, he's a quality package. Still coming to terms with the speed of the game at times in transition.

Comben was much better than last week, presented well and got rewarded.

Thought Xerri had the better of Goldy at times in the ruck.

CCJ did one good thing, then a fluffed kick or a missed shot followed. Took a big contested mark over JZ a few guys were vocal about.

Cooper had a much better afternoon, had a few nice touches in transition and cracked in hard. He's going to be an interesting player to watch in a few years.

Thought Lienert did fairly well on Larkey, for the second week in a row. We could do a lot worse than having him on our rookie list especially as Corr is in the rehab group again tbh.

Our bottom 4-5 are extremely luck to be on AFL lists, absolutely miles off it and if we are being honest, probably aren't even good VFL level players atm.

Most of the VFL guys look more than decent, big improvement on previous years.

Corr, Steevo, Wardlaw, Logue, McDonald, Hall, Spicer, Tucker all missing from what I could see from my side of the ground.

When are we expecting Logue and Tucker to join in full training? Not ideal that they are missing out on a pretty crucial time to get in sync with teammates and the game plan.

Going off the game sim write-ups (by the way thanks to you guys) its seems like not many new faces are being tried on the wings? Is that the case? And who do you think are our most likely starting wingers for rd1?

Logue took part in some drills on Monday. None of the match play stuff as yet. Doesn’t look impeded at all, possibly just building him up. You wouldn’t think he’d be too far away.

If I were to guess.

Scott and Phillips/Powell possibly.

It's always hard to determine this as there's double the amount of midfield positions in these match sims as there will be in the practice matches and Rnd 1.

A darkhorse may be Paul Curtis.

Darcy Tucker is another we haven't seen yet that will be a show when fit.

Liam Shiels another possibility.

Scott and Shiels from what I’ve seen.

Shiels was on the wing for most of the game. He may play on one and Scott on the other round 1.

Thanks for the updates gentlemen (and I use that term loosely). Very much appreciated.

Question for those track watchers who have seen a few match sims now: is there an obvious game style we’re trying to implement? Is there something the coaches seem to be drilling into the players during the match sim or too hard to tell at the moment?

People might get their nickers in a knot, but I think we are going to majorly struggle again.

There's still a major amount of basic skill errors from some of our better players, like the previous few years.

LDU looked absolutely miles better than anyone else on the list today coming off 2 months of rehab, whilst that might simply be the case of being an absolute top liner this year, I think it's also an illustration of how some of these guys look good in each others company but aren't close to top level AFL players yet.

Dont know about game plan but they definitely went in harder

Just realised there were more players attending CB. Ford, Bull & P. Curtis and probably others that I’m forgetting

Xerri, LDU, Cunners, Simpkin vs Goldy, Greenwood, WiPhil, Powell, Curtis
Many have all 9 in their best 23 / is this the best 23 mid rotation taking shape?
Completely agree with the above. He has been great for the club, but I just don’t see how him playing benefits us this year or going forward. We have enough leadership across the ground now to not need him for that and if we do need leadership/experience, I would rather play other experienced players that aren’t best 22.

He’s been named in the leadership group so you’d have to think Clarkson has a role for him.

I expect he will play plenty early in the season and it will depend on him if he can keep his spot.

I think we are close to bottom for skills and fitness, but if we get extra output from Cunners, Phillips, Powell, Curtis, Thomas, Chom, Goater, Sheezel, Dury, Wardlaw, Log, Tucker, Shiels and Howe and the clarko factor on top of that, I cant see how we are not going to improve significantly?

Yep, I'm a pleb that went to a Tech school where we learnt to cut tin with tinsnips and make pencil cases in woodwork. We had enough issues with English without trying to learn another language.
Sorry to butt in...but wanted to concur, although back in the days(1959-60) we had to travel to another school for woodwork and tin work.....but can remember making, what was called a shadow box, for Mum to display her porcelain figures, and in tinwork, it was a scone cutter Mum could use....anyway I'll leave and pre-season training can be discussed again....

Watching today, I thought the same thing. Some stand out players and glimpses of great plays, but I still think we will struggle.

This is probably my way of thinking. Unless the majority of players we have recruited/traded for are duds with limited upside despite being high draft, then basic logic would tell we would have to be significantly more competitive.

We have a number of early draft picks approaching 3rd, 4th and 5th seasons, surely under Clarko they start to take decent leaps forward. The only way I see us having another wooden spoon season is if we once again cop a heap of injuries.

6-8 wins is my prediction.

Will Phill is precision in everything he does. From running patterns to disposal, you can tell the amount of repetition that goes into his craft.
