They were set in the crucial position, they could afford to do that. Players like Pickett can impact nearly immediately.

Hopefully in the next year or two ,we can find one.
Of course - I’m just saying, they don’t grow on trees.

I think you might be getting ahead of yourself when you talk about rise. We’re minimum 12 months away from going anywhere. Get your contested ball winners and KP‘s sorted first, the guts of the team, they take time. Hopefully we have that by the end of this year. Then target your secondary players. Maybe Nick Watson in this year’s draft.

Yep the next 12 months will be sorting the wheat from the chaff.

I'm bullish on finals in 2025. Which is two preseasons and 40-odd games away.

Just think about having the below with games and a further two preseasons. If we don't play finals in 25 we've ****ed up the draft royally.

Perez
Comben
Powell
Sheezel
Wardlaw
Curtis
George
Goater
Phillips

about 70 odd games between that lot I reckon.

Add them to McKay, McDonald, Corr, Logue, Scott, LDU, Simpkin, Zurhaar, Larkey, Tucker…we could be getting somewhere. Not forgetting there may be some who want to jump on the Clarko train.

I haven’t included Goldstein or Cunnington. I’m sure if you asked them they’d want to be there too.

Also the final tally of those trades was:

Out: Ben Brown, Caleb Serong (#8), Seamus Mitchell (#29), and Cameron Taheny (#50)

In: Jaidyn Stephenson, Atu Bosenavulagi, Tom Powell (#13), Jack Mahony (#34), Flynn Perez (#35), and Phoenix Spicer (#42)

You cut out the filler and it’s Brown and Serong, for Stephenson, Powell, and Perez.

Brown isn’t much of a loss, so you could say we’ve turned Serong into three important parts of our rebuild. Hopefully Powell can close that gap between him and Serong to really make it clear that we’ve come out of it all as winners.

Mitchell, Mahony and Spicer are all looking unlikely to change the outcome too much at this stage.

Yep that's ten which is our current core group, 12 if you add Goldy & Cunners.

I named 9, I could have named more but am confident those I listed will make it. Not suggesting some others won't just I'm not confident they will.

So gives us 19! you can make up the numbers with the rest, most sides do.

Also two first-rounders next season.

Really impressed with Flynn's condition fyi.

Although I should have added Bergman, just needs 12 kilos. So that is 20. plus two first rounders.

it is happening i do feel.

At this stage, Serong is worth more than all three combined. But it's a long road.

Big fan of serong also

Hopefully Powell ends up better but I always thought it was such a nothing move to future trade that pick instead of getting 12 month’s development into a pick 8

I'm really hopeful on Powell, but to date he has gone backwards since his first handful of games in the AFL.

In some ways, it feels like the positivity after Ahern dominated the Eagles in a game and we all thought that's just the way it will be going forward.

Serong, on the other hand, cleaned out the cabinet for 1st year player awards and now stops the competition's best mids whilst still getting 26+ a game.

Trying not to sound like a killjoy here, but some photos on Instagram where Powell has bigger pipes isn't closing any gaps right now. I will put an asterix down for Powell though as his coach was Noble, and not Longmuir, and if they switched teams Powell gets played in his best position and Noble probably says Serong needs to be multi-position and plays him for the year at back pocket with a hard tag accountability.

At some point it would be good to hear what made the coaches decide to train Drury as a defender instead of as a forward.
Not suggesting it’s wrong, but it was an interesting move, given we have a glut of back flankers, and just Spicer and Mahony as small forwards.

I reckon it’s his link up play through running flat out up the ground and his kicking.

So you dont want certain players to practice their AFL roles in the intra club?
They can do that in the prac matches against actual oppo

The intra I want to see jy v ldu, Phillips v cunners, McKay v larkey, Logue if fit v comben, lmac v sleevo, corr v CCJ, Goater v Sheezel, Powell v Taylor etc

Which more or less is their actual roles anyway

I agree Nostra, have our close-to-best side spending time working together under al clarko's game plan. Which is new to them all of course. He will probably change it up in the second half.

From what I’ve seen they do filter through best 22 players in the probables side.

I agree, I think first team forwards vs first team backs and vice versa. Then mids mixed up for balance, but either way I do think Phillips, Powell & Greenwood should be able to hold their ground against our best 3 and not get completed dominated.

Phillips, Powell & Greenwood wouldn’t stand a chance against Cunners, LDU & Simpkin imo.
