I like your optimism, I’ll wait to see evidence of this new prepared midfield group against actual opposition, I’ve been burnt one, too many times from reports on here.

How good is it to have someone who can coach?

Ponder that for a minute. The sad truth is Brad had clocked off towards the end and Rhyce and Nobles couldn't coach.

Certainly sounds promising
I'll admit to having a severe case of December optimism this year. With only a little luck, we have Phillip and Cunnington back in the team, Thomas returning to form and fitness sometime through the year, and with Comben to straighten us up; and we've replaced a coach, who couldn't coach and who almost certainly lost the players last year, with one that can certainly coach and has enormous player buy in.

Makes perfect sense though.

If I wanted to successfully scale Mt Everest for the first time, I would be listening intently to someone who had scaled it 4 times previously and probably not nearly as much from someone who has barely scaled the West Gate Bridge..

For the last 3 years I’ve been of the belief that a good coach would improve us by 6 goals immediately.

A better overall approach team to defending will result in more scoring opportunities.

Stop 3 opposition goals and score 3 more ourselves. It’s not the end result but as old mate B.Scott says we’ve got some easy fixes.

Clean slate for everyone.
Skills, fitness and game play were all sub-standard, primarily because of the coaching (IMO). The players simply weren't given a platform to flourish, in particular the inexperienced ones.

As mentioned before, Clarko makes us a 6 goal better side without him even trying.

From what I’ve heard Goater has impressed the coaches so much that you can almost pencil him in for round 1.
Im Not Surprised Nate Diaz GIF by UFC

Hard to disagree with any of that. And we did seem from the outside anyways to not really fret if we lost. Which was kind of most weeks.
And our level of preparation seemed again from the outside to not be flash.

So add it all up and whack another 22 plus games against these guys over the next couple of seasons and we'll be flying.

  1. Goater
  2. Wardlaw
  3. Sheezel
  4. Comben
  5. Curtis
  6. Drury
  7. George
  8. Phillips
  9. Powell
  10. CCj
  11. Bergman

A total of 57 games for that lot, so for mine that is where our real improvement will come from.

Then hope that a couple of the following become mainstays or good role players
  1. Archer
  2. Lazzaro
  3. Mahony
  4. Xerri
  5. Perez
  6. Bonar
  7. Young

Agree mate.

Can also look at short term improvement. McKay managed to finish an entire 11 games this year. Thomas 10. Cunnington 2. And if you add Logue to that list then thats a hell of a lot of top end, experienced talent. That alone should see some improvement on last year. And if McKay and Logue can play games together it's going to make Corr a much better player as well.

I don't think worried is right, he may just not have it in him to achieve the standards that al clarko requires.

I couldn't have either. Will be interesting viewing, I am also not saying that TT won't make it. Just he is finding it tough currently.

anyways

We're working on our clearances, trying different methods, apparently ( i haven't been to training) we're breaking into six groups (??) all allocated a number, then someone will call a random group and they have to sprint to the next clearance simulation. It is about having our guys in peak physical condition to roll from clearance to clearance.

There have been some very successful average footballers over the journey, T Shaw springs to mind. Not a slight on Shaw, his work ethic is what made him very successful.

The boys have to share something great about training and not so great. Don't know a not so, but a great was Goater, McKay was isolated one out in match sim, Goater sprinted 30 meters to assist and thumped the ball OOB .

Everyone had that as their great.

Don't know what it all means, or how we'll go, cannot get a read on it tbh.

But heck I think I'll be disappointed if we're bottom four. I see some still have us for the spoon.
I saw this drill a when I went to watch training. It looked exhausting. There was also a lot of kicking off the ground, presumable just to maintain me momentum.

Can confirm Goater looks sensational.

He gets on the park though
Which Atley turned into a 234 game career.

Taylor is like a bunch of players on our list that Clarko will have to settle on a role(s) for.

And if you don't maintain your width at the stoppage or whatever he wants you to do, you will not play.
