Hmm I don’t think you necessarily need to be under a certain height to play as a small forward. As long as the skill set (ie tackling, pressure and crumbing) is there. Both Curtis and Sheezel have the skill sets to play that crumbing role but because they were good overhead as juniors it might just be a case of knowing when to go in a marking contest and when to crumb.I'm still a bit worried that we don't have at least one reliable sub 180cm small forward, to scare oppo defenders. An area that we seem to constantly ignore.
I hope Spicer makes it.I'm still a bit worried that we don't have at least one reliable sub 180cm small forward, to scare oppo defenders. An area that we seem to constantly ignore.

We’ve got time to find one if need be.

Remember seeing him on his first day. Reckon he would have been about 60kgs. Absolute stickSometimes I can't quite shake the feeling that it is not footballing ability alone that makes Ligma happy.
At some point it would be good to hear what made the coaches decide to train Drury as a defender instead of as a forward.I reckon every other club has at least one decent/good/excellent sub 180cm small forward for the now, and the future. 185cm aint a small forward.
This made me laugh, then I cried. Then I shook my head, looking wistfully into the distance with a painful sense of deja-vu
Ah to be a Roo supporter!!
What makes me happy is that Flynny is looking HUGE and is not gonna break in half in a contest (not that he did in the first place)
And my new profile pic makes me happy
I’m with you. Think we need to address it soon. A Kossie Pickett type or two would be nice, crumbing Larkey & Chom and harassing and chasing when trying to stop the defence from clearing it.I understand that, but they aren't too hard find. Surely a decent one could've at least been rookie listed, by now. It's harder to find a decent key forward, than it is a small forward.
I'm outspoken on Spicer so you're well within your rights to take this with a grain of salt, but I think he's a chance of filling that hole. He's got a classiness in the forward 50 area which he showed on numerous occasions last year and which perfectly befits the type of player you're describing. He just needs a bit more physical (and perhaps mental) preparation so that he doesn't shirk the contest as much as he has so farI’m with you. Think we need to address it soon. That is what he was drafted for, but I’m yet to see any positive inclination about him becoming someone like a Kossie Pickett. Gets lost, no confidence, scared of the contest. I hope I’m proven wrong, I really do. This is his season to stand up, or he might not get the chance again at AFL level in my opinion.I'm outspoken on Spicer so you're well within your rights to take this with a grain of salt, but I think he's a chance of filling that hole. There has to be a bit of confirmation bias going on here. Off the top of my head I remember a classy left foot 20m pass inside 50, a smart handball over the top, and the evasion of about four Pies opponents whilst hemmed in on the boundary line. Not to mention the impressive penetration he got on some laces-out passes at the first training session this year. The prevailing view of him seems to be that he's shown absolutely no positive aspects. I understand not rating him that highly, as he has shied away from contact and made errors, but the view that he's shown nothing, zilch, nada, just isn't trueThat is what he was drafted for, but I’m yet to see any positive inclination about him becoming someone like a Kossie Pickett. He seems a long way off AFL football is what I mean. One passage of play a year won’t cut it. Let’s hope he comes in and shows a lot more this year at some point. There has to be a bit of confirmation bias going on here. Exactly. If/when we need one, get one.
Point is, I reckon there's something there. I don't even think he was at a size last year where he should've been in the senior team. He should've been in the gym working his ass off and potentially working on his mental fortitude, if that's one of his issues, as I suspect. And he should be doing those things now too. But I spose it doesn't matter too much where we differ here, as we're both ultimately hoping for the same outcomeHe seems a long way off AFL football is what I mean. Didn’t Melbourne trade first round picks with us to get one Kosi Pickett because he was so highly regarded pre-draft? How does it become so easy to nab two players of that quality, especially without spending high picks on them?I’m with you. Think we need to address it soon. I mean two quick zippy small forwards. Even one would be nice for a change.Didn’t Melbourne trade first round picks with us to get one Kosi Pickett because he was so highly regarded pre-draft? We've needed one, for nearly a decade. Now, more than ever.

It’s not critical yet. If it were impeding us winning a flag, it’d be a different matter.
