Pretty sure someone like Sidebottom has played extensive spells successfully on the wing. He is not quick at all but has the running footysmarts and endurance to do it well.

Yes, images of Jetta streaming up the wing for Sydney in the granny abound in the imagination when thinking of wings, but the reality is if you can:

  • run effectively for about 14-15 kms a game
  • know where to run to to provide an option
  • know how to run defensively and provide an option in defense and coming out
  • bust a zone with creativity or line-breaking speed
  • can kill a majority of 50/50 contests
  • have good vision

You will make it as a decent winger. Taylor and Scott do a majority of these things. They just need to keep developing and get more experience. We know the 50-100 game mark is where players can either explode or regress. Let us all stop arguing and pray these two make it.
You also need to be a good kick. Sidebottom is / was elite.

I never said you need to be Jetta quick.

Our wingers in the 2025 premiership might be neither Scott or Taylor.

Needs more CCJ (over xerri) and Curtis Taylor (over bailey turnover Scott)

So it’s always KIND of presumptions to sit posting ‘better’ team lineups with Dorito crumbs flying over the laptop from just HOW wrong the professionals who’ve trained these players all summer are.

But at least by Round 15 we’ve all seen these blokes play regularly.

Certainties as to why selections are wrong are at their most craptacular leading up to the first ‘official’ game of the year.

But sure, Taylor over Scott and you’re definitely right about this.

Not new

It’s a simple theory can’t kick can’t play

And when you don’t have any mongrel on top of that then bailey makes for a whipping boy if he gets selected

Being able to run shouldn’t get you a game, may as well draft marathon runners then
3rd in the syd mate. that counts for something no matter how shit we were

he's a good footballer

Worked out OK for Geelong with Blicsavs

Based on these past few preseason games we should count ourselves lucky that St Kilda decided not to stooge us with Hunter Clark; he's looked absolutely awful to start the year, reckon he might legit be cooked from all his injuries
He was one of our better players yesterday. A bit scrappy but 15 contested possessions and 14 ground balls in the guts was very good to see.

I'm rapt North said no to our proposal for 9 and Clark for 3. Phillipou looks a star early days so I'm not sure what we thought we were getting out of that deal.

Sheezel and he's better than Phillipou

Pretty sure we were actually targeting Tsatas at that pick

Fair enough, time will tell on that one
yeah probably as you need midfielders because your current midfield is about as dynamic as a Harry Connink Jnr concert. I know, we were there 3 years ago

Mention HClark and this bloke shows up like a fly to a turd. He’s obsessed.

Saints had 1 good kid. Now they have 2. Issue is the second one will pi*s off back to SA soon enough. Unfortunately for the Sainters.

Or completely demotivated as he was forced to stay somewhere he dislikes and can’t wait to get out of.
Remember when st kilda had a fire sale and got Clark & Coffield out of it? And then half this board wanted us to do the same?

Think you might be confused there

There was no fire sale to get Coffield and Clark

Coffield was taken with our pick

We swapped our 2016 pick 10 for 2 x second round picks and a future first which ended up being pick 8 (Clark)

Not sure how that is a fire sale turning pick 10 into 8, 26 and 32

I'll admit I definitely went a bit early at him cause once he was playing on the ball he was much better, showed some decent poise disposing by hand. I think not pulling the trigger on that trade will be a win win for both our clubs; I can't see how Clark would have got mid time over our current crop and personally I don't rate him off half back (off the back of the small sample size of his career I've seen) and I think Pou will be a huge part of your future that you maybe wouldn't have paid up for with pick 3.
