He was one of our better players yesterday. A bit scrappy but 15 contested possessions and 14 ground balls in the guts was very good to see.

I'm rapt North said no to our proposal for 9 and Clark for 3. Phillipou looks a star early days so I'm not sure what we thought we were getting out of that deal.

I rated him very highly, I just have major concerns about top 10 SA players, they don't all want to go home but a lot do. If he was Victorian I think he would have gone higher. He might be the Pavlich type that will love it where he goes, but it is a risk, as we experienced with JHF. I think the issues we had accelerated the timeline, it seems he would most likely have gone after his 1st or 2nd contract unless we were in the premiership window. The issue for the Saints is I don't think you are in that window and when the club comes back a bit eventually to rebuild, that is when the fight risk of interstate top class players is at it's highest.

You would ideally want to avoid just developing someone for another club to benefit from.

Even after consecutive wooden spoons to North, the Saints list still remains the most unappealing in the competition. Dare I say it, no mans land.
Funny, our kids looked better than yours when we played you last year and for the rest of the season

I think you guys really need this last crop to be a very good one because your list does not have a lot to show for a side that has been uncompetitive for so long

Some very smart poster identified this years ago on the main board

Pretty groundbreaking stuff here - Kids in a half decent system, perform better then kids in worst system the league has seen in decades… Bravo.

Windhager and Owens whilst being okay, are extremely overrated by Saints supporters. They’re honest goers. Will never be stars.

Kings a star.

Pou looks really promising, but go home factor with him is and will always be real.

That is literally it. That is the Saints “kids”.

Yep there's always a risk with interstate players and it seems to be getting worse by the year. I think his talent out weighs the risk on this occasion but time will tell

In terms of being in no man's land, I'm realistic on where our list is and it clearly still needs work, but there also seems to be a myth amongst some fans that you need to completely bottom out and be ordinary to build a good lust and get back up again which I don't buy into.

Port for example have one of the best young cores going around without having to do that.

I think our last two drafts have been really good so I'm happy with the direction the club has gone to.

I think you want to stop watching MAFS and concentrate a tad more.

Happy to hear which seven of your 22 and under players shapes up against this group:

Sheezel
Wardlaw
Powell
Curtis
Phillips
Goater
Comben

Time will tell on Windhager and Owens. Both look very impressive to me. I'd imagine if that draft was done again both would go quite high.

It's not just Saints fans that rate these kids highly either

Not sure where you got the idea we had a half decent system last year. I think there's a reason we had a complete turnover in the off season

Take out Sheezel and Wardlow who were not there last year (which was my comment) and that is a very average list for a club that has been really bad for some time

Hopefully for your sake Sheezel and Wardlow are good because as I said, there is very little to show for the rebuild prior to that

Omg let's give both coaches a chance to see what they can get out of the kids- who are admittedly under developed at both teams, there will be some surprises (good and bad).
Kids always look better in a good system.

Anything is half decent compared to Norths 20/21/22 system.

I don’t need you to tell me what neutrals think of St Kildas list. The no mans land thread paints a comprehensive picture, with only Sainters arguing otherwise.

Given that we've only been uncompetitive for 3 years including last year - not sure that constitutes such a long time btw- I can only assume your basing your comments our 2020 and 2021 drafts then.

I'd say you've gone a tad early.

Funny, I just had a quick look and managed to see quite a few neutrals in that thread praising those two, especially Windhager. So not sure that argument stacks up.

If you go.onto the 2021 draft thread you'll see Windhager mentioned quite a bit too

rubbish - add these blokes who are all sub 25
LDU
Larkey
Bailey Scott
Ben Mckay

Steevo and TT also very talented but had poor 2022's for various reasons.

Those guys are at the age now where they should be making you a good team but it hasn't happened. Not exactly kids.

That's my point about this draft having to be a good one because you haven't found a lot in the previous drafts

If there's one thing North fans have no right to do, it's throw shit at the lists of other teams. Saints aren't the ones who've won a combined 7 games out of their last 60. Our list has proven nothing, regardless of how much you think it's improved. Genuinely unbelievable how delusional some campaigners on here are

That’s my footy season gone then. What the **** else am I supposed to do?

yeah but our card box house is double-ply, these other hobo's have only single-ply.
Yep I get why people pump us up, beats facing what is the stark reality.

These " our best 22" sides have around a doz decent footballers, a smattering of those we have high hopes for, then a mob of shitmen.
The cheery on top being a few older guys closer to the end than the start.

Clarko won't fix every problem in two months. But I still don't get why so many of our players struggle to hold a tackle. It's basic football. Is it strength or skills? Whatever it is, surely it can be addressed.
