12 days off. Should be ok to play in this game.

Dead set, my youngest got a minor concussion yesterday and I can tell she’s still not 100%....makes you wonder tbh. Can’t be too careful with this stuff. My wife spoke to my sister in law who’s a brain & spinal specialist at the Children’s yesterday and she was saying no TV or anything over stimulating for a few days. Honestly the way we used to deal with concussions just doesn’t cut it.

Yeah, I was playing in a preseason practice game against Haileybury back in early ‘85 and had a teammate kick a high hospital pass out of defence. I backed back in the centre waiting an eternity for the pill to land and just as it did the two ruckmen and a couple of other bigs crashed into me at pace whilst leaping for the mark. The oppo ruckman’s knee cannoned into the back of my head and he landed on my neck with his knee supporting his entire body weight.

Lights out!

Apparently a teammate pulled my mouthguard out so I wouldn’t choke on it and a couple of trainers carried me off on a stretcher. Not to medical help but to the team bus, where I was left unattended and unconscious for the next two hours.

Someone called my mum to inform her that her son had gotten into a spot of bother so she trouped down to Dingley to collect the carcass and take me straight to a doctor.

A week later we played in a Herald Shield game at Punt Rd and I lined up on Dean Rice. The rest was a complete blur. We won but there’s no way I was right to play.

Back then nobody cared. “You right to go Toes?” was about the full extent of the concussion test.

I’m glad things have changed. If the same thing played out today I’d sue the school ffs.

Back then I remember the coach telling me a couple of times after heavy knocks “don’t wipe the blood. Get back out there and show them how tough you are” (barely able to see through the crimson waterfall).

It was nuts!

I remember we played an undefeated Elizabeth on their home deck in about minus 6 degrees, sideways rain.

anyway, really tight last quarter and they had one player who was that far above the rest of his team mates, big midfielder and athletic in the air. I tried to make him earn one in a long ball down the line, came charging in arch style cannoned into the back of him, ear massage and spoiled the ball but happened to go smack bang into his elbow with my cranium. Split my head open tasted the blood immediately, came charging off, head taped up went back on and we had no one left on the bench,
Ran around like a headless chook foe a good 10 minutes and got one kick in the last 10 seconds clearing a spillage in their forwardline - couldn’t see s**t just steadied and sunk the slipper in it and one of our lads marked it between half back and the wing boundary side. We won by a kick, but there was no way I was right to go back on and this would have been amateur league footy only 5 years back

So it was redemption for you that saw Wayne clean up Dean Rice in 1996.

Bloody oath it was (although Rice wasn’t responsible for my concussion and we did cane his team). Can never have enough roodemption!

I've seen it mentioned on twatter that Footscrau are having a reserves game. Any idea what we are doing with blokes who aren't getting a run?

Depends what we've set up with saints. If it's a normal 22 man sort of set up or a rotating 30 man squad for the praccy game.

No thanks, last time I did that it took a day of polishing to get the grass stains off my knob.

On Thursday, even though the forecast is cloudy, the UV index is forecast to reach 8 (very high). Our players and fans will be protecting themselves with Solbari’s sun-protective range of sunscreen, skin care, and UPF50+ clothing. Check out their full range, and use the North Melbourne discount NMFC2021, on their website solbari.com.

Please note: The game is not open to public attendance.
I was planning to take a "long lunch" to go and have a look - but does anyone know if this message is more that we won't encourage you to be there due to COVID but we won't say anything if you ignore it, or does it mean we will actively discourage you from going (even to a public park) should you try and watch?

DN: Jack Ziebell will play in defence. It will be a young and exciting midfield tomorrow. Kyron Hayden will get a chance to go through the middle.

DN: Jaidyn Stephenson sees the game quickly and makes good decision. He has things to work on, but he’s been training really hard.

Put him on Steele.

B-Mac to King in what should be a preview for the next decade.
