Significant role ? 🤣. Currently our second best midfielder, and number one maestro who conducts proceedings, soon as he went off injured early against the Lions in our last final , I turned to my niece and said , game over , season done and dusted .
You’re a prophet

Jen is it Howe or Howes in rehab because I thought Noah was in training, thank you
Noah was training the first session of the preseason
Then he went on the NT.
Came back in rehab lol So something clearly happened (apart from the obvious) there - soft issue appears, given all the running.

Lets see tomorrow.

No, I'm saying his midfield role is his thing - any other role such as off half-back doesn't appeal to me as working anywhere near as well, apart from a quarter here or there.

Houston in rehab is particularly annoying, as based on 25 output he’s one of a few we should be banking on for uplift, plus the dominos falk in much more orderly fashion if he takes the quarterback position to release others in areas of need. Do we know what the injury is?

Was a hip injury I thought?

Maybe I'm too optimistic though the problem to me wasn't Houston's ability but rather not adapting to a new system. He didn't have the freedom he had at Port and I personally felt like Josh Daicos was playing the role that Houston should've been playing.

I would love to see Josh move to the midfield again and let Houston be the main distributor off half back. Give him the keys to the backline.

Hip issue if it was a lingering one could explain some running/reaction slowness last year. I am with you on the system and have been banging on about this since part of the way through last season. It worked while Ned was in red hot form but got exposed after because of our lack of midfield talent to go with Nick. I do however think it would be letting Dan off lightly if we just put everything on it because as an example in the prelim he had more freedom even in a different role and didn’t do much with it (well he kicked that amazing goal but that’s besides the point).

Whenever a player who clearly has demonstrated they are capable of elite output goes down 2 or 3 pegs my mind always goes to physical niggles in addition to anything else so was curious.

Bigger picture to me is that if we want to be any sort of threat next year we need uplift from a few of our second half of the season disappointments which includes him, Long, Bobby and Lipinski though I have less hope on the latter. I’m expecting relative decline from some of our oldies even though it’s been proven wrong before (Sidey second half, ditto Crisp, Pendles different role) so even with some fresh surprises from the younger crew we would still decline (my tip is a strong year from R Steele and some cameos by C West).

Being realistic I see us 7-8th next year based on teams around us on the improve. I do like our last two sets of draftees (my dark horse has been Cochran and I can see some positive comments from training which I’m liking) so never say never with some surprises and considering our coaching strength, but fully expect the usual suspects coming hard at our list management. That said, add a Humphrey or elite mid in the off season 26 and I see us shooting up the ladder against predictions the year after.

Also might explain why he was not having the impact this year as we hoped

Looked that way and made me think why did we chase Houston when we had Josh Daicos ahead of him?

I’ve never seen ‘it’ in Reef. Looks the goods but…he has a few mates too.

We have invested so much time and effort in some of these guys for not much reward. If this years crop requires as much effort, then God help us.

But as happens every year, I’m quietly confident about some of our new kids. Really liking Prindable.
Reef was giving me Murph-type vibes last year before he popped his knee, as in someone who pretty much everyone had drawn a line through suddenly "getting it". Time will tell if he can go on with that this year and realise a bit of that potential he's always had.

Unfortunately he trains like he plays - plays like he trains.
No urgency to tackle.
On the plus side, Ned moved well.
Kind of what popped into my head when I saw it too. Needs to be more of a mongrel. It's so frustrating to watch.

Re: reef.

He looks strong and fit.
No longer playing that deep defence role, but more like a third tall, that allows his pace and power to dash up the ground.
Now in 90% of drills.
