If saints were to get rid of Schneiderlin for a large sum, throwing that toward odegaard would be ok with me. Probably ridiculously risky but could also get some good squad depth as well.
The kid wont be in the first team for 2-3 years and you want him to replace your best player?

With the amount of hype surrounding Odegaard it won't surprise if he ends up in the forgotten players thread in the future. It's ridiculous, everyone seems certain he is the next big thing.

I get he is playing senior football in Norway and even got capped. But it's hardly the highest standard

i dont like the way he's whoring himself around every major club

we get it mate, you've got talent.
I dont mind it if he is going to each club and checking out the academy setup and seeing what it will be like for him. If he signs for any club with half a brain they'd sit him in the U18's and develop for the first year and see what all the fuss is about first hand. Moving at the age of 15 is a big deal and I'm all for him getting the full picture of what he is signing on to. The wrong move and he could go down the Lulinha and Freddy Ady paths

I didn't like it but he's in Manchester at the moment whoring himself to us and the rags. So I've learned to live it with for a week or so.

Would saints let him leave in Jan though?

This is what Atletico's president Cerezo had to say about the negotiation:"In the end everything worked out. We were working on transfer for a few weeks, Milan wanted Cerci and all of the favorable circumstances happened to complete the deal. Simeone has never asked us for anything but then asked for Torres. It wasn't easy bringing him here but we worked it out. Milan will pay Torres' wages and we'll pay Cerci's, but when we negotiated with Fernando we did with our hearts and not money. We wanted him here for competitive reasons, we believe he can help the team

No, I don't want to replace schneiderlin at all. But if he was going to be moved out, I would like to have a player for odegaard and possibly get good cover to fill a spot until odegaard is ready.

I swear the if and cover bits in that statement were completely overlooked.

We would be silly to let him go in Jan with us challenging for europe. Pretty much a if we are going to let him go I would like odegaard and a replacement if we were to let him go.

I think the question we should be asking why would Odegaard go to Southampton when he was the world's biggest clubs chasing him?

Southampton's record with developing youth is excellent. He may see it as more of a stepping stone.

Yep, if he wants game time and development he is better off coming to us. Also supposably been getting advise for Forren that he should consider saints to develop. Highly unlikely we would get him but who knows.

Bette players than him have been lost when they walked into the youth academies of big sides.

Odegaard is a special talent by all accounts, Southampton would treat him like he is and have a clear plan in place for getting him into the first team within 24 months. A bigger club like City or Chelsea would likely buy another player in his position than trial him.
