Does anyone else think $2.20 is overs for Sanchez to stay at Arsenal? Wenger seems adamant he's going nowhere.
Wenger does have some form for tough talk in those situations. Don't know if it's different this time. Guess it depends on Sanchez. If he is adamant he won't sign a new contract it's a lot of money to pass up for an extra 12 months.

I totally understand how one could be conflicted with that decision. On the one hand, you don't want to lose your best player. On the other hand, you're passing up on some considerable coin to lose him for nothing next season. I know that Arsenal aren't poor but +40m is still +40m.

And the difference between keeping and losing Sanchez could be CL qualification. Which is worth a **** load more than 40m.

Sky reckons that a source close to Van Dyke has said he expects him to move to Liverpool before the window shuts.

Edit: Reading further some talk that Liverpool have held firm and haven't reignited any interest after they pulled out earlier in the window.

But again, Arsenal really don't need the ****load more money right? Kind of like how it didn't really impact United when they missed out.

Well it did impact us, and in that time we didn't sell our best player.

Again, what he's actually worth and what clubs would have to spend to get him are two different things.

I really don't understand why so many have struggled to grasp that concept...

Financially? Wasn't too harmful. You've since spent 90m and 75m on players.

And that isn't comparable to Arsenal as we are a lot more free spending and are worth more.

And it was 89m you jerkwad.

Not talking about whether he is worth a world record fee or not. Consensus in here was that he isn't good enough for them. Barcelona, who I would think have a pretty good grasp on which players are and aren't good enough for them, obviously disagree with that sentiment given the amount they are apparently willing to pay for him, when they could easily get just about any attacking midfielder in the world.

Are they only looking at him because a superior player is heading to France though? If so, does that not prove that he's second fiddle to what they've currently got? Or do you think he was being targeted regardless of Neymar?

Spot on.

"Worth", when applied to a qualitative subject, say....human beings who play football, is a completely derivative and pointless term. Players are simply "worth" what a club will pay for them. It speaks nothing towards that player's actual abilities.

Worth a punt. Inside word from some close to the club say he and Ozil are both staying and the club expects them to sign new contracts before the end of the year. PSG haven't made an official bid, Bayern are out, we won't sell him to an English team, options are running out for this window at least.

Alonso cost £23m and there was a fair few lols about it.
Had you not switched to a back 3 I think the lols may have continued (he's a bit suspect defensively imo), but as a wing back he's quality.

He'd already be better then players they already have.

Unless they are about to get a huge amount of cash they can't afford Coutinho.

As always in these situations, Coutinho, Keita and Van Dijk's futures will all be determined by how difficult those players are willing to make life for their employers.

My take is that:

Van Dijk has already thrown the toys out and given prior sensitivities Liverpool are standing off waiting for him to cause enough internal unrest for Southampton to come back to the table.

Keita appears to now be turning the screws on Leipzig as he was expecting Leipzig to accept Liverpool's last €75m offer, Liverpool are sitting on that offer waiting to see how firm Leipzig's resolve is at that price level once their player starts acting up.

I'm sure Coutinho would happily play for Barça, but he also seems happy at Liverpool earning a huge salary and with quality players looking like coming in to the club to aid his chances of success in red. At this stage there's been no indication that he's causing trouble internally to force his way out but that may change.

All 3 on long term (~5 years) contracts which puts the clubs in a very strong position, but typically player power tends to win out as we've seen on numerous occasions over the years.

They've been after him for the last 2 years. They only found out Neymar was leaving recently which has probably hardened their resolve to get him but my take is that they wanted him regardless as Iniesta's successor, not Neymar's.

One theory I've heard is that it's a bid to appease Neymar - "if you stay we promise we'll sign Coutinho and you get to play with your best mate every week."

Could have some truth to it, sounds a very Barça/Real thing to do.
