Would imagine that clubs will look to renegotiate contracts with buyout clause to make sure they can only be triggered during the Premier League transfer window. Certainly new contracts would do that.

In the interim I wonder if the league could ban all permanent sales outside the transfer window. Would probably end up in court but would add a barrier while clubs adjust to the new rules.

I have also heard a suggestion that the new window would only apply to transfers between premier league clubs but don't think that is the case.

For all the criticism of our transfer spending this summer I reckon we've done a cracking job. Got players in, in positions we desperately needed them (with the exception of Silva). Got them in early and at a pretty reasonable (IMO) cost.

We've offloaded a lot of deadwood and made a fair bit in sales.

Only a couple of negatives for me with the sales of Kelechi and Unal rather than loans but with buyback clauses in place for both I guess it's not too bad.

Still a few more outgoings and maybe one or two coming in. And that will make it a superb window for us.

The sale of Kelechi was not a negative... :D

It will be great to see how he goes with a bit of consistent game time. Definitely had to leave this season to take the next step in his career.

And who knows if he thrives, we might see him back one day.

Some talk that Barca could activate Asensio's buyout clause. Now that would result in some huge melts.

Real supposedly trying to get him to sign a new contract with a buyout clause bigger than Messi' s.

Liverpool remain keen to sign Virgil Van Dijk and are still waiting for an indication Southampton are willing to sell. (Echo)

The final decision on Van Dijk will probably rest on whether Pellegrino thinks he can be reintegrated. (@TimesSport)

You've done well. Silva was a bit of a luxury signing but if a quality player is available then why not? Handy depth you've got there now.

Still a bit short in defence if Kompany goes missing, or any fullbacks get injured/suspended. And while I think we could manage, only really have two goalscorers in the squad. But looking a much stronger, and more balanced squad than we have since Mancini IMO.

Pretty sure we were linked to him a few days back but I think I recall reading City was also interested.

I have heard that Newcastle was close. But I've never seen him so don't know whether you should be cursing us or thanking us.

Wasn't too expensive (£3m or so IIRC) so probably not a key player.

Which he won't.

Says who? There's a reason Real are trying to get him to sign a new contract ASAP with a massive buyout clause. They wouldn't be doing that if they thought there was no chance of Barca hitting his release clause and him agreeing to leave.

I read a while back that Asensio wasn't too happy with things (contract) at Madrid. I think also he'll be looking at who they're looking to buy and how that will affect his game time.

But would be a surprise if Real let him go. Could be a new pigs head scenario.

Real have no choice if Barca meet his buyout clause and he wants to go.

I guess that depends on whether you believe that story.

I'd say it's more likely RM want him to sign a new deal because of how much he has progressed. Pretty standard.

I know he probably wouldnt come. But we have the cash. What is Asensios buy out? 72?? Trigger it. Offer him double the wages. The chance the play in the Premier League and under a world class manager in Klopp.

Cant hurt to try.
