I'd go the other way with the transfer window and open it up like it used to be so it's open all year round
Nah, don't like that idea, sorry.

From the EFL just now:

“The EFL Board and its Clubs have previously expressed the opinion that closing the summer transfer window in advance of the season commencing would be an improvement on the current position.

“On this basis we will be tabling the matter for discussion with Clubs in September.

“It will be important that all the consequences of such a decision are fully considered, as the requirements of our Clubs are different to those in Europe’s top flight leagues.”

I know he probably wouldnt come. But we have the cash. What is Asensios buy out? 72?? Trigger it. Offer him double the wages. The chance the play in the Premier League and under a world class manager in Klopp.

1) You don't have the cash to buy Asensio.
2) You don't have the cash to pay above what he's getting at Real.
3) Why would he want to play in the Premier League every year when he can win the Champions League every year? And why does playing in the EPL matter?
4) Zinedine Zedane, or Jurgen Klopp? Who would someone want to play under? Tough one that.

You can try but there is absolutely no way whatsoever one of the best kids in the world (up there with Mbappe) playing at Real Madrid would move to Liverpool.

We absolutely have the cash to buy him and pay him 150k / week wages. Not that we are interested in buying him in any case.

Klopp is a better manager than Zidane who is still relatively inexperienced.

I think it says a lot about how good he is if Tightarse FC are bidding 80m for him and Juventus are knocking us back.
I suppose it depends how much you value the position. I'd personally rank wingback as one of the easier positions to fill because the difference between one of the best specialists like Sandro and cheaper player or a conversion project like Moses or Ox isn't massive
If you can afford it why wouldnt you go for the best you can get?
To be honest, I'm not convinced that they need him at all. It would be a bit odd to go from the manager apparently being concerned that they don't have enough depth to spending 80 mil on a left back. Add a couple of defenders as depth and they'll be fine.

Yeah, VVD is very overrated on here. PL CB's before VVD:

1. Toby, 2. Koscielny, 3. Luiz, 4. Vertonghen are all better than VVD atm and Bailly will be better. He's on the next tier down with the likes of Keane, Stones, Cahill etc.

Hugely important position in the game nowadays.

VVD is miles better than the likes of Stones/ Cahill / Keane. It's not even close.

just a personal opinion that transfers shouldn't be stopped by an artifical deadline. The rest of Europe will take even more advantage of English clubs now imo.

Wasnt it originally changed so that i stead of buying someone to replace an injured player, clubs would give a kid a chance.

I don't think thats really worked if that was the reason.
don't know the reason for the change unfortunately

My view is that it favours the wealthy elite of English football. A club like Bournemouth or Brighton etc have x amount of funds to buy/loan players so they need to be prudent in their acquiring of players or it could cost them a spot in the top flight. It could also lend itself to situations in March/April where 3, 4, 5 clubs trying to avoid relegation make panic signings (possibly at inflated prices as clubs rinse them in their hour of desperate need) who's affordability and budgeting hinges on future top flight status. A slippery slope imo. Example being that we get to March just gone and Moyes buys 60m worth of players to push them towards survival and some of those funds are using next season's PL money. All good if it keeps them up. If they go down then they're even more ****ed than they would have been.

These clubs have a greater capacity to make in season signings than the smaller clubs down the bottom so I don't like the inequity. You get 3 months, if you cannot compile a competent squad of players in that time then bad luck.

This is a similar rationale for my dislike of the idea for in-season trading in the AFL. No mid season corrections whenever you need it. If you **** up in the summer then you need to make do until January.

Shame we ain't in for VVD. Imagine him in a 3 man defence with Verts & Tob's.

We can't afford the wages, doubt Arsenal can either as neither of us are run and funded by obscenely wealthy oil producing countries. Reckon that's why Liverpool will ultimately miss out on him too.

Arsenals revenue isnt far off ours. I think their wage bill in the last set of figures was fairly close too.

Liverpools wages were actually higher than ours but I'm guessing that might have included payouts to Rodgers and staff.

* some of our staff work for CFG and the work they do for the club is recorded as an expense, but not a wage expense.

Mangala close to Inter but a few other Italian clubs (Roma, maybe Juve?) Possible. I'd say one of these will happen.

Inter also interested in Denayer. I'd be surprised, think we're looking for a permanent deal and they'll want a loan/installments/option type deal. Burnley have bid £11m for Florin Andrade.

that's 1 scenario. Harry Kane rupturing his acl in the first game of the season and spurs playing Gashssen up front all season and missing top 4 is another.

There's no right or wrong answer imo and plenty of scenarios can be discussed to suit each argument. Sunderland pissed away plenty of £££ for years and years on shite players and changing the window wouldn't change that.

Take my club or Sunderland out of it though and look at from a perspective that it opens up the possibility for bad owners or chairmen to compromise the long term viability of their club. You give an inch and inevitably someone at some point will take a mile.

Now to indulge on behalf of my club. A) we've had 3 months to buy a replacement, should we choose not to and the worst should happen as your scenario then tough t***ies. B) we'd then get a January window to make an alteration.

Missing top 4 or European places is small fry compared to the increased risk of clubs jeopardising their futures by gambling against future potential earnings. I just think that any advantage that it creates are outweighed by the negatives.

bad owners and chairman compromise the long term viability of clubs right now.

Of course they do. I'm not convinced the motivation for your view is anything more than something that'd benefit your club more so than others.

anyway, moving on, I'm not quite sure as the translation from Italian was a little rough by Di Marzio suggesting Juve and PSG try to settle a deal for Matuidi for 25m - didn't say but suspect it's €. Also suggested they're not overly interested in Keita from Lazio.

Of course not. But as i said. Why not try. Who would have thought Neymar would leave Barca.

We have the cash to trigger his release clause but he'd never come.
