Weird comment, he would be a fantastic signing.

1) Adam Johnson, Jeremain Lens, Wahbi Khazri, Emanuele Giaccherini, Fabio Borini, Ricky Alvarez, Will Buckley (:$). Literally any winger we've signed who's meant to be a "fantastic signing" has been shit these past few years.

2) Honeyman and McGeady have gotten a decent partnership going. McGeady tore Wednesday a new arse the other morning and Honeyman looks to be another great find from our academy. Don't need Snodgrass on the wings with those two and with Khazri in reserves.

3) Agreed that he'd be a great signing and especially at Championship level but we have no money so Bain is being a complete cheapskate. All in all, would prefer we didn't sign him due to our track record with wingers recently and Honeyman coming onto the scene like he has.

roberts going back to celtic on loan.
A waste. He'll be no closer to the first team next summer than he was this summer.

He should have taken the Nice or Southampton options.

The Reds had already turned down offers of £72 million and £90.4 million for the Brazilian, with Coutinho subsequently handing in a transfer request last week.

Now, according to the Times‘ Paul Joyce, they have rebuffed a third approach from the Spanish giants.

Goal‘s Melissa Reddy reports that the bid was worth €125 million (£114.2 million), representing a significant increase on their previous package, and a big statement of intent from Liverpool

We'll finally make our first signing today. Sanchez is done. Should be announced imminently.

Do you think one of your first choice CBs might be sold? Seems a really strange move for the player and Spurs otherwise.

Two actually not that the 2nd should ever play for the club.

Wimmer and a switch to a back 3. Dier back where he wants to play which is DM.

Hmm be interesting to see if that works. Mou found him out in about 5 minutes of the Europa final. He is v v raw.
He is very raw and regarding that final reading the player ratings from a variety news outlets the worst he received was a 6 and there were some at 7 and a couple at 8 so the opinion is mixed. Most absolved him of blame for the Pogba deflection.

It's also mixed on places like rawk, redcafe, reddit etc etc but the general consensus I've read is that many thought he played well and that we've made a good purchase. Ruud Gullit even said (and I don't believe him) he's the best CB at Ajax since Stam. So I guess the take home message is that views are certainly mixed so I'm not here taking your word as gospel or dispelling it outright. It's just one in a litany of very varied reports over 1 game.

From where I sit, he's an upgrade on CCV who needs a loan, and likely a practical upgrade on Wimmer as it appears he's going to trust him in a back 3 which is largely why he wants out imo. When injuries hit he preferred to revert to a 4 than to play him so he wants out. So upgrade on CB #3 and increase DM depth sounds fine to me.

deflection was not his fault or anyones. Wheb i say Mou found him out he got Rashford to mark De Ligt who was cutting us up passing out from the back and then press Sanchez when he got near the half way line. He turned it over heaps

I hope the news is true that we rejected it immediately. Just cos i have this idea that Barca are going back and forth all week with Coutinhos people. Sounding out Liverpool.

Holding meetings. Discussing how much more to bid. How to structure the deal. How, why, what, where and when.

Then after all this work we just immediately say no. Hahah

I suspect there are a number of reasons for this transfer:

1. In the short term, Wimmer wants to leave and we need another CB if he does. Pochettino loves his physical specimens and Sanchez fits the bill in this respect.

2. In the medium term I suspect that this purchase will act as an insurance policy in the event that Alderweireld doesn't sign a new contract and we have to sell him after this season or the next.

3. In the long term, this guy is rated as an immense prospect and could end up being a mainstay at CB for us for a number of years.

It's interesting that you don't rate him and think he's really raw. I don't discount your opinion, but it just adds to the variety of appraisals I've read about this guy. Regarding the EL final I've read some people say he was utterly dreadful and others say he was their best player. I've seen that he's raw and needs a lot of work, but Ruud Guillet said he's the best Ajax defender he's seen since Staam and if what I read was correct he won Ajax's player of the season for last season. Apparently he only made one mistake that led to a goal in the Eredivisie last season, but I've also read that he's terrible on the ball and loves to dive in.

It seems that he needs a lot of work but is also seen as one of the top defensive prospects in Europe at the same time.

In other words, ****ed if I know what to believe. I'll make my judgement by how he performs in a Spurs shirt, I guess.
