Transfers are effectively contracts between clubs and under FIFA rules, and probably the laws in the clubs respective countries (although I'm not 100% sure on that one), are legally binding. It would be a massive shitshow and almost certainly go to the CAS and possibly legal action if a club didn't abide by the terms of the agreement.

FIFA won't allow a club to have control over a player who isn't registered to them.

Buyback clauses are effectively gentleman's agreements and go against FIFA guidelines. They are only worth the paper they are written on if all 3 parties want the transfer to happen. Otherwise they mean jack shit and are unenforceable.

Everton about to sign Henry Onyekuru for £7m, this has come from no where but now appears all but official. Looked set to join West Ham yet we're about to sign him and loan him straight to Anderlecht for next season.

Turned 20 this month, is a Nigerian foward who had 22 goals and 9 assists from 38 appearances in the Belgium Pro League for KAS Eupen las season.

Seems to be because he couldn't get a work permit, so that's why he has to be loaned back out, and we didn't want to do that.

No. It's not exercising control over a player at all. This really isn't a hard concept to understand. I don't know how you're not getting it.

Yes they did, which Atleti were bound to accept. But TA wanted to join Spurs, which meant they accepted our offer. He still would have been free to join Soton under those circumstances, but he didn't want to, he wanted to agree personal terms with us. Atleti were still bound to accept the Soton offer.

Although, that example is a little flawed as there were disagreements over the amount of time that was involved and because it was an initial loan agreement with a fee attached that expired after 'X' amount of days. Even if there had have been no time discussion in the agreement between Atleti and Soton, TA still would have been free to reject the permanent terms offered by Soton, despite the fact that Atleti would have been obliged to accept the terms of the transfer.
