My club swansea are about to sign Las Palmes CDM Roque Mesa. I'm pretty pumped about this signing because I think he could be the answer to our defence woes. Hopefully he does a bit better than Borja Baston!

"Arsenal maybe forced to sell Liverpool transfer target Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after he rejected their offer of a new contract.

The England international has told the Gunners he has no intention of penning an extension and is prepared to sit out the final year of his deal before leaving on a free transfer next summer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain believes he needs to quit the Emirates in order to advance his career and the ECHO understands he’s keen on a move to Anfield.

Arsenal snubbed Liverpool’s initial approach for Oxlade-Chamberlain as they still hoped he would pen a new contract.

However, with those hopes now in tatters, the Gunners may have to listen to offers for the £25million rated midfielder."

It's so bizarre. I dont know why he thinks a move to Liverpool will further his career. He will get less games at Anfield than he would at Arsenal.

He could be handy as a utility player covering both fullbacks and filling in at CM when Hendo / Can are both unavailable.
But he's a midfielder, not a full back. Milner went back there, but he's far more disciplined and experienced to have made the move work.

We need full backs, lets not buy a midfielder to play at full back. Let's just buy a full back.

Also we have a packed midfield. Hendo, Can, Wij, Lallana, Lucas, Coutinho. Id rather get games into Grujic than play Ox. What if we buy Keita?

I think the only reason we should buy him is if we dont buy Keita. Then he can used as cover. But he wont come knowing how far down the pecking order he will be.

It's all a bit pointless.

He's also a pacey winger, of which we currently only have 2.
1) We'll need to rotate them regularly to keep everyone fresh. Even in a best case scenario of no injuries he'd start most of the domestic cup games, and probably a fair few league games too.
2) Ideally Sturridge comes in and covers in the event that 1 of Salah or Mané are out of action, but that's a bit of a gamble as we've discovered.

On top of that as you said, he's able to cover in midfield and; as he showed towards the end of last season, as a wingback.

His versatility and the number of extra games we'll have this season means he would see plenty of playing time regardless of what happens with injuries. Plus personally I think he may well suit our playing style a little better than Arsenal's. No idea how Klopp will have sold it to Ox, but maybe he sees all of this too.

But Ox wants to be a central midfielder. Not a fullback/wingback or a winger. He's not the most effective of wingers either. It would be a huge downgrade to go from Mane, Salah to Ox.

I understand he is really flexible and Klopp would love that about him. But I just cant see him getting a ton of game time outside of a major injury crisis.

So did Milner if memory serves.

Had this discussion before but the reason he wants to leave Arsenal is that he is sick of being a "utility" player and a backup, and wants guaranteed game time in central midfield. Just seems pointless moving to Liverpool.

Latest news from a gunners insider is that Ox has agreed to stay at Arsenal and it's his agent rousing up news to try and get him either a transfer or bigger wages which would make a lot more sense imo.

Ox is going from one subs bench to another. What a doughnut

Lacazette to Arsenal done for around €50m, confirmed by Lyon Prez.

“The first offer made by Arsenal was €45m. The deal will happen for something between €45m and €50m.

“To be close to €50m is something unique, and will be without a doubt a record for Arsenal and a record for Lyon absolutely.

“One must also take into account that traditionally, a club like Arsenal, and it is the case for Bayern as well, do not have the habit of spending so much for one player.

“We will without a doubt hit a record, it is not a small transfer, €50m for a player who was produced by our club.”
