This isn't the Liverpool fan being anti-Everton for the sake of it but I just don't see how they bridge the gap next season when they're about to lose their 25 goal striker who is also their best player by a mile.

So far they've spent that money on a decent keeper with potential and a centre-back who's had one good season playing for an ultra defensive side. They're good signings but not the type that would have the top 6 worried. I know exactly what jod is getting at when he says 'typical Everton signing'. Typical in that they're at a fairly similar level to what they have and will do a job but probably aren't going to take them to the next level.

You're forgetting Sandro and Klaassen.

Not sure either are trolling, they just disagree with you.

I was joking about Pants.

Jod admitted to trolling on the previous page.

Probably as replacements for Lukaku and Barkley. If so then they're both downgrades imo.

If they keep Lukaku then yes they will have had a seriously good window, but I think this spending spree is down to the fact they know he's off.
Also due to europa commitments and not wanting to repeat mistakes.

We've just signed Florian Lejeune from Eibar. Sounds like a good addition.

Not sure how his surname is pronounced but I hope he can become a bit of a 'Lejeune' (legend) of the Rafalution...:$ (sorry, long day at work haha).

Individually they're a downgrade on Lukaku but so too are Kane, Eriksen, Son and Alli to Bale but when you strengthen buying multiple guys rather than relying on one star it can be better off long term. Lukaku can't do any more for them than he already has and what's it gotten them? They've used his money to strengthen GK, CB and AM whilst signing a highly rated ST and probably will bring in a more proven one too. Doubt they'll sell Barkley btw

Assuming Lukaku and Barkley leave both will need to put up 10-15 goals for a top 4 push.
Not unfeasible by itself but probably need others like Davies, Mirallas etc to "chip in" more if they want to progress from last year.

They'll likely bring in someone like giroud too.

Anything's possible, Leicester taught us all that but I too can't see them bridging the gap. 5th or 6th is one of those above has a 15/16 Chelsea meltdown. They were ~10pts adrift of 6th this season weren't they?

Yeah but you guys also hit the jackpot in that you had a world class striker coming up through the ranks which softened the blow massively. That's Bale's goals replaced right there.

Who are Everton going to sign that will be able to make up even 80% of the difference in terms of goals? Will be difficult.

They finished 8 points off I think and that's with United putting their eggs in the Europa League basket towards the end. They also had an amazing home record last season which will be hard to replicate. But I guess the obvious answer to that is to improve their away form.

Everton are definitely going to be one of the most intriguing teams going in to next season. If they can get some momentum up early on then I guess anything's possible.

Only scenario they get top 4 really is if 3 of the teams have Chelsea like **** ups

What I said was also fact. I was being serious. Neither Pickford or Keane would be first XI at Liverpool.
Are you asking me out?

I'm assuming they do sign a Hernandez or Giroud. So one of them + Klassen + Sandro should get them the goals to cover Lukaku. The two they've already signed are upgrades on guys like Kone and Mirrales and Lennon by that much that the step down from Lukaku to Giroud should be ok.

Then add in the fact they've massively upgraded on Steklenburg and Keane is a CB that should allow them to play 3 at the back with 2 of Williams, Jagielka and Fuenes Mori. If anyone doesn't think they're doing well in closing that gap or at the very least improving has rocks in their head

I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that if they sell Lukaku the gap between them and whoever finishes 6th will increase from the 8 points it was last season.

Either that or they get less than the 61 points they got last season.
