Good god I don't want Deeney. I don't even understand why we're chasing Kelechi and Deeney. Ulloa is definitely on his way out but if we're chasing 2 strikers, that leaves someone else to go. My bet would be Slimani, particularly if Mahrez leaves. I really hope that's not accurate though.

Damn, if it was anyone but Mr Boombastic I would've believed it.

Expecting an imminent Alexis sale now.

Exactly what you'd expect any CEO to be saying in this scenario.

Keita has come back to Leipzig a week early, apparently to get the wheels moving on this. He wants the move and if it hasn't happened already I'd imagine he'll be communicating that to the club shortly, whether it's next year for his €50m release clause (potentially to Bayern) or this year to Liverpool for a €20-30m premium on top of that.

We've been on the receiving end of this a few times in recent years, and we're significantly wealthier as a club than Leipzig are. The player will put a bit of pressure on and Liverpool will keep increasing their offer until they find a price that doesn't 'bore' this guy.

Are you guys wealthier than the red bull company? Or just more deluded?

That seems very optimistic. They have no need to sell and they continue to suggest they won't.

Liverpool have a clearly identifiable trend of struggling in alternate years when they have to juggle Europe and the PL.

2012/13 with EL: 7th
13/14 no Europe: 2nd
14/15 with CL: 6th
15/16 with EL: 8th
16/17 no Europe: 4th
17/18 with CL: ??

Given Liverpools struggles with this and the players Everton have signed I can see them usurping the Reds of a place in the top 6 and coming out of the season as the top side on Merseyside. They already have a better GK, a significantly (and it's even close) better defence and better CM's.

If they can hold on to key existing players in addition to these signings then they'll be putting pressure on a number of sides in the top 6.

The old saying that if you aren't moving forwards then you're moving backwards. Given the obscene amount of money being spent across the league on strengthening squads, any side that is resting on their laurels or trying to stand still this summer runs a very real risk of being overtaken regardless of whether they finished 1st, 2nd, 4th or 8th.

Just because we finished 4th ahead of United, Arsenal, Everton etc last season, it doesn't give us any sort of advantage over those teams come day 1 this campaign. In all likelihood they'll be very different sides by the end of August, fortunately it looks as though we're going to be pretty proactive in terms of strengthening and adding depth in the right areas this window too.

We're set to be a completely different side with a different manager and a different set of players relative to the last time we were in the CL, so I'm not sure how much you can take from previous performances, but we'll see how we go I guess.

Keita to Liverpool confirmed.

In practical terms in terms of ability to finance player purchases and pay top salaries without having to sell players, yes, I would say with confidence that Liverpool are without doubt a wealthier club than Leipzig. Wealthy owner does not necessarily equate to wealthy club.

Lakshmi Mittal is personally worth $15bn.

I suppose that means that QPR would reject all offers for Massimo Luongo, even if a club put £35m on the table for him? He doesn't need the money.

Not saying Leipzig aren't wealthy, not saying they're not ambitious, I just doubt they're wealthy and frivolous enough with their finances that they're going to say no to £60-70m (€70-80m). There's no evidence to support that other than a very smart PR campaign being run by the club through the media.

If money was no object to this club and they were another PSG/Man City etc (2 of the few clubs that could actually turn down that sort of offer and not see any difference to their transfer strategy), then you'd think they would be flashing the cash to raise their profile to both their current players and prospective signings that they mean business, and seeking to significantly augment their squad by signing the absolute best talent available in preparation for what will be a far more grueling season than their last. You'd expect a club that could knock back €70m without blinking would be making €30-40m purchases.

Instead they're paying their top players peanuts, and restricting themselves to shopping for bargain young players with high resale value, and poaching half their players from their sister club RB Salzburg on effectively free transfers (most recently centre midfielder Konrad Laimer, who signed a few days ago).

To me the evidence points to them being an extremely well run business, with an excellent scouting department. Not a cashed up juggernaut for whom €70-80m will make no difference to their capacity to build a competitive squad.

Keeping Keita and qualifying for the UCL again next season would be worth more to Leipzig than the premium they get for selling him to Liverpool this window. They can always ask to renegotiate his contract and increase the release clause for next season as well, same way Suarez did.

I really don't think he leaves until next summer unless you go world record with the fee.

Also feel free to link me to a source that says that Keita is unhappy at Leipzig

Gab Marcotti, Raph Honigstein and several other reputable sources have said he wants to move to Liverpool. Furthermore, that he has an agreement in principle with us.

According to them, the only barrier at this stage (and a significant one at that!) is going to be determining a fee that satisfies Leipzig.

The fact that to date, their record signing is €10m Timo Werner, and their plans for this window consist of signing players like Laimer (free) and spending €10-20m on young forwards like Bruma and Karmoh tells me that as big a business as Red Bull are, it's not unreasonable to think that Leipzig's capacity to add quality to their squad this window would be significantly enhanced by having an extra €70m in their pockets.

I think you're wrong, they've not spend a huge amount because they haven't had to, they have the youngest team in the league and finished second, they are backing themselves to improve further whilst adding some very good young players.

They don't need to disrupt what is working by spending huge money on players. If they wanted to, they could without having to sell a player for 70m.
