A SkySports reporter, I'd be shocked if he was on a cent more than 150k a week.

Sky sports, kewl

150k is insane insane money btw, for a washed up ginger. If you have that much money to throw on a player then buy an actual really good one.

I genuinely think he'll make an impact next season, this isn't going to be a 2012 Wayne Rooney but I'm still confident in him been a good signing. Last season we had two players (Lukaku & Barkley) have a total of a combined total of more than 10 goals/assists across all positions I don't see why Wayne couldn't do that next season.

Can only see Shrek doing anything for Everton as a CF playing with someone prepared to do all the pressing / chasing.

Otherwise he'll be absolutely useless. His physical decline is his biggest issue which will be exacerbated by playing with inferior players at Everton.

Such a flawed approach.

With all due respect (as you had a good season), but you're not Real Madrid. You finished 2nd in the league 10 points off the pace, were knocked out in the group stage of the CL, won no silverware, and there are honestly no players in world football that would improve your starting XI? Do you not have ambitions of going deeper in the CL?

This transfer strategy also assumes that the teams around you don't improve their starting XIs/see natural growth from within, and that your current XI all maintain their form/improve from last season. Maybe not deliberately so but it's myopic and misguidedly arrogant.

As I said the other day, if you're not moving forwards in this league then you're moving backwards. There is no room for treading water and hoping the status quo is maintained. Put it this way, I bet the rest of the league are hoping this article is right and Tottenham are just chipping around looking at youth/depth players this summer.

The United supporters are up and about. The last time they were this chippy was when they signed Poggles. I can't wait for Lukaku to grossly underperform and listen for a whole season how he needs time to settle in

There are, and they cost 50m+ and thus not feasible for us, That's 20m more than our record. You do get why we are building a new stadium? Otherwise we will gravitate closer to West Brom than to the bigger clubs, the wage structure and transfer fees paid will not change until we move in at least. Wages are low at moment so yes feasibly big purchases are not really on our radar.
Best XI players that feasibly cannot be improved on. Kane, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Lloris, Rose, Walker, Wanyama, Alli. That leaves Eriksen, Dier and Dembele as possible improvements.

Linked with Barkley for anywhere between 30-50m yet not an upgrade on Eriksen, **** we could get Coutinho and he wouldn't be an improvement. We could buy Lemar and that'd still be the case.
Not linked with a CM and suspect more games to Winks and Onomah will be the priority. although I would like one, but again we likely won't spend more than 30-40m on a player so if there's one clearly better than Moose in that price range I'm all ears
That leaves Dier. Linked to Mawson, Maguire, Ginter (gladbach) and Veltman, but more as replacement for Wimmer. Could we improve on Dier, I'd say we could.

I don't think us fans, the club or the manager gives a shit what the rest of the league thinks. They've said the same thing the last two seasons and have selected us for 5th or 6th both times...
Sissoko, N'Jie, GKN were all bought with the same idea in mind, trying to find his Mané player, like when he found Mané at Soton. That is one area where we could improve, a pacy wide player. Improving on Janssen with Chicharito would please me but apart from him who would want to come, get less than 75k P/W and play virtually no minutes as we rarely sub our double golden boot winner before 80mins, a big reason we missed Batsyuahi last summer was wages, remember too it's a world cup year coming up so national team players won't move here to be his 2nd fiddle. Take Lacazette, we could offer him the same wages, offer OL the same fee and he'd pick Arsenal still. Giroud is easier to displace than Kane. Lemar may be the same should Monaco budge.

Nothing will change until we move in, if all we do is keep our team together not let Walker leave and improve on 2-3 of our bench options I'd still back us for top 4, but even if we don't, so be it. We know what path we are on and at present we're not playing the same game as the rest, at the moment we're trying to ween ourselves off the selling club mentality of funding big transfers via selling star players.

Take home message, there are numerous players that could improve on most starting members of the team, I suspect most would be in a bigger and richer club than ours or are out of our transfer price range. We've come to terms with this but it is baffling that opposition fans haven't. So it's not arrogance, it's the reality of our situation. Gut feel says we splurge late on Barkley if he still hasn't signed a new deal and use him as a 10 and an 8 on a squad rotational basis.

How could you "feasibly" improve Eriksen? There aren't many better players than him in the world in his position and if there are, good luck getting them for under £60m.

Thought I edited that bit out o.O
No matter, on reflection I noticed he would be hard too and noted as such with Coutinho as an example.

This is what it boils down to, the price required is too high atm to improve on most of the starting XI, so instead Best we can do is to buy players in a Son like scenario. I.e pay decent money for a decent bench option and hope like he did that in time they force their way into the fold. ADL asks a week or so ago about our lack of activity so far, this is the simple answer. Major surgery isn't needed and it's so much more soothing for the blood pressure than back when we needed all of CM's,CB's, GK's, ST's etc under Jol, Ramos, 'Arry, Dim Tim, AVB.

Rooney is pretty much cooked, Everton should be aiming higher but the romance about him returning to the club he supported growing up and where he made his name would be making the toffees excited.

Who knows he might do ok, but people keep forgetting that although 31 isn't old, he started at 16 so he is into his 16th season which is massive.

brentford's jota held back from playing in a friendly. bid expected from newcastle and/or burnley.
Really good player. Surely if given the choice, Newcastle is the better option of those two clubs.
