I didn't say that, in fact I've posted in this thread when Perez said United hadn't made a bid that I didn't believe it.

I merely quoted Perez own words.

It's quite obvious Lukaku was our first choice. You don't spend more money on a second choice.

The fact that Lukaku was wrapped up all of a sudden is also a good indicator that United were working on both options. In the end the price RM wanted wasn't much less than what Everton wanted for Lukaku.
