Yeah cos the cash was never splashed on players. Van Nistelrooy, Veron, Ferdinand, Cole, Yorke, Keane (which was a record at the time), Berbatov to name a few.

A bit touchy, are we? You know you're starved for attention when you respond to the same post twice, 17 minutes apart.
Those players have zilch to do with Ferguson's final four seasons and imagine you for thinking football isn't the same back years ago as it is now in a conversation about transfers. Because Real Madrid never coined the phrase big money "galactico signing" nearly 20 years ago, Chelsea didn't spend over £300M in Roman's first 3 years as owner or City never spend over £450M in the first 3 years of being taken over. It's actually admirable what Ferguson managed those final four seasons when the Chelsea and City were free-spending in the same period.
I will say though, sorry for picking on those clubs.
