"If [Spurs] don't win the title, it's not a tragedy," said Conte.
"If they don't arrive in the Champions League, it's not a tragedy. If they go out in the first round of the Champions League, it's not a tragedy. If they go out after the first game that they play in the Europa League, it's not a tragedy.
"Maybe for Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and - I don't know - Liverpool, it is a tragedy. You must understand the status of the team.
"Every team has to understand what their ambitions are. If their ambitions are to fight for the title or win the Champions League, you must buy expensive players. Otherwise you continue to stay in your level. It's simple."
I guess someone should have told Leicester to set their ambitions lower.Conte sort of sums up the point I was trying to make before it became yet another one of those discussions.
Also says that they tried to buy Walker, and that if he could buy one striker it would be Kane.

SM, a "metronome" goes back and forth. "Metronomic" means to be mechanically regular.![]()

Not much a fan of him commenting on other EPL clubs.
Seems to be something thats crept into the game in the past four or five years. Used to be a real no no, but people don't to have much of a problem sticking the beak in nowadays.
I guess it was a response to Levy. Probably feels it was directed at Chelsea (I've not really seen Levy's comments in detail so don't know if it was or not). Not much a fan of him commenting on other EPL clubs.
Kanes a no brainer, best striker in the league. Walker would have been perfect, but you guys ended up with 3 FBs we were chasing too. Hattrick of SNUBS.
Levy wouldnt sell us the steam from his piss though.
Yeah very strange comments from Conte.Conte is taking the piss somewhat with those comments. Would certainly be a"tragedy" if we lost in the 1st round of the CL again with this talented group of players. Would also be hugely disappointing not to qualify for CL football. I have a problem with him using the word tragedy though. Tragedy is what happened in the Grenfell tower or at the concert in Manchester or little Bradley Lowry. His perspective is off.
Bottom line is though, when you are operating on a far smaller budget than your rivals, then the weight of expectation is lesser
They won the league two years ago.Not sure what Leicester has to do with it.

What if you had as much success as Chelsea had in the last 15 years? I call bullshit.I'd hate for us to be taken over by oil money.
Would rather someone like red bull or a solar energy co
And what if those owners got you into Europe? Or won the FA Cup? Or a league cup? Or any trophy for that matter?I don't think anyone has an issue with their club being successful. But blindly sticking your hand out for cash irregardless of where it comes from is a bit whorish. When our owners actually tried to pretend to be good owners and spent on the team plenty still didn't like them because of their background.
They did get us into Europe. What if you had as much success as Chelsea had in the last 15 years? I call bullshit.

Why do people keep bringing this up as if Fergie took over a small time club and took them to the top on a shoestring budget? Fergie outspent everyone in his time in charge of Manchester United, he also was lucky enough to run into that bunch that came through the youth ranks at the same time. He's a great manager, absolutely no question, but let's not forget reality.Except, in this insane world, it doesn't. In this world spending the GDP of entire nations on transfers and wages is somehow the benchmark. Winning stuff because you've spent more than everyone else does not make Pep Guardiola a great manager. This window has just made him look an utter fraud - like United's spending has made Mou a fraud. If these guys can't manage a team without buying it outright then they ain't no Fergie - and should be treated with contempt. BY THEIR OWN SUPPORTERS.
Did you boo at your television or did you celebrate that you got promoted? They did get us into Europe.
Ehab was booed when he raised the play off final trophy two years ago.
Still dont get this. Not just with Barca and Coutinho, but it's often reported that the club and player have agreed terms, not they just need to work it out with the selling club to get the sale price.Barca press saying coutinho agreed personal terms
So? Just because we do, doesnt make it therefore legal for others to do it to us. It's still illegal. We got slapped on the wrist for our bad behaviour, so should Barca, if they are indeed tapping up.Pool reporting someone for tapping up that's rich
I hope we loan you Ryan Kent. Quality young player. Tons of pace and really direct.Looks like only a loan for Hector but still better than nothing. 3 CBs in the squad all of a sudden!
Still need a LB (Rico Henry being linked heavily) a RM (Ryan Kent being linked) and a back up striker probably, but squad all of a sudden looking a lot healthier.
Myself and the other city fans watching were yelling for him to **** off.Did you boo at your television or did you celebrate that you got promoted?
Just reporting what I heard. During uniteds champions cup game against Barca the commentators kept going on about it. Yes technically it's tapping up but they will get away with it because you assume it would come from Neymar and they can just bs and say it was two friends talking etc.Still dont get this. Not just with Barca and Coutinho, but it's often reported that the club and player have agreed terms, not they just need to work it out with the selling club to get the sale price.
But isnt that illegal and tapping up. Dont you have to have a bid accepted before you can speak to the player and agree on personal terms.
That's how it works on FM.
Super shady. I find it funny that we get called out on it though when EVERY club does it.Just reporting what I heard. During uniteds champions cup game against Barca the commentators kept going on about it. Yes technically it's tapping up but they will get away with it because you assume it would come from Neymar and they can just bs and say it was two friends talking etc.
Pogba did the same with lukaku we might of had evertons permission first but who knows football is a shady business
Not sure thats relevant. Conte is saying that if you want to win titles and compete in the champions league every year you need to buy players. They won the league two years ago.
League wise definitely not.Not sure thats relevant. Conte is saying that if you want to win titles and compete in the champions league every year you need to buy players.
As good as Leicesters achievement is they havent done that. Neither has anyone else fwiw but I'm not sure City, United or to a lesser extent Chelsea see the last two years as acceptable.
