Handing in a transfer request is the stupidest thing in football.

Like the club didn't already know he wanted to leave. All you've done is make it 'official'.

Hope they make him play reserves all season, the silly tit.

My understanding is that there's a financial component to it in many contracts that enables the selling club to avoid paying a contract termination bonus. "I'm so keen to leave I'm willing to forfeit my contractual right to £x million, now sell me."

The gesture seems kind of hollow though when you consider in many cases players are leaving for significantly more lucrative contracts, and will likely receive a sign on bonus from their new club for their trouble.

Handing in a transfer request means a club doesn't have to pay the player a 'loyalty bonus' which can help facilitate the move.

Correct, many contracts have loyalty bonuses that get paid if you see your contract out or don't submit a transfer request

Yeah spot on. It's not really going to hurt the player by handing in the request anyway (provided he gets the move).

It's a good move for you guys.

Surprised he went to Brighton tbh. Thought he had the pedigree to go higher but EPL is EPL.

Seems to be a decent passer of the ball which we need given Kayal seems to have dropped off since his injury.

PSV turned down 15m euros last season for him so time will tell if we got a bargain or not.

For the price I've seen that you got him for, should be a propper signing. Dunno why people are automatically writing you and Huddersfield off as relegation certainties when your purchases have been astute this window.

Probably because we'll struggle to score enough goals to stay up with what we have right now.

Someones gotta be favourites for relegation and normally its the second and third teams promoted that are always top of that list for the drop.

Southampton are still not selling apparently.

Good on them.

im disappointed in you.
i use to rate you as apretty astute football poster, but it seems like youre just another gullible one.

saints are doin their pr atm to appease their fans, soon will beg lfc to negotiate and deal will be done

I'm very upset by this now.

But it does save the club having to pay a player that is annoying them a few million though. Might mean they're more willing to accept slightly lower transfer fee if the loyalty bonus is quite large.

Nice sig and av bet :D
What chump did you lose to, please say Subaru

Disgusting the way Pool are acting in this. No class. If they were a big club they'd just bid what he costs. These FSG guys are an embarrassment to them. They also had Keita injuring team mates because they didn't want to pay.
Solid troll. 8 out of 10 for me.

Sounds a lot like what SOS was doing with Gibbs

I'd much rather people hand in a transfer request than all the bullshit that accompanies player moves.

I also think, once a transfer request has been made that clubs should honour it, set a price and make the price publicly known.

The Spanish media outlet who broke the news we were signing both Manquillo and Merino reckon we have agreed to meet Arsenal's valuation for Perez. Sound promising.

What you are saying is all contracts should have a buyout clause like what is required in Spain.

A player could still move for less than the buyout clause but only after both seller / buyer agree terms.

I think that's pretty fair myself.
