I still think you could get Keita and VVD for sort of money you'd get for Coutinho.

But it doesnt have to be a big name. Coutinho himself was bought at the end of the January window for not much. And he contributed straight away.

You could look to PSG who might be offloading soon. Monaco who seem happy to sell. I don't even think you need a direct Coutinho replacement. Money better spebt elsewhere.

You must be utterly mad. Lallana is out for 2-3 months and Coutinho is our other creative CM. We have 4 games in 14 days. Coutinho absolutely has to be replaced now if he is sold and Keita is not a replacement either.

You've got Wijnaldum, Mane, Salah, Firminho capable of AM/wide forward. Sturridge, Origi, Solanke up front.

I think you'd get by until Lallana returns and even then I think you have more pressing needs in your squad.

The only player remotely close to playing Coutinho's role in midfield is Firmino. He's ok to play there in an emergency but certainly not for the next 2 months. The rest are no chance of playing in CM.

How long is Coutinhos "back" injury likely to keep him out?

How long is Coutinhos "back" injury likely to keep him out?

The back injury is real. Picked it up against Bayern and has been getting treatment for it since then. No timeframe for a return, haven't read the latest to see if Coutinho was working with the physics at training today.

Whilst I agree, Sanchez hasn't kicked up a fuss to leave at all. He fully accepted that it's our decision entirely, just as Coutinho appears to have done with Liverpool despite obviously wanting to move. Wouldn't say it's too dissimilar in that regard.

Funnily, Coutinho is probably the more likely of the two to leave.

Posted this a week ago - things have obviously changed re: Coutinho and my guess is that he's off.

It becomes a huge issue for the club when good sources report that the player has handed in a transfer request and/or is at odds with the manager. Coutinho is irreplaceable for Liverpool right now and I genuinely hope they shove it up Barca and hang onto him. But this is not far off becoming a real issue for Klopp, and a decision might have to be made even if it's against the club's best interests on-field.

We're fortunate that Sanchez hasn't (yet, anyway) gone down this path. How Wenger has kept it civil and calmed the situation is anyone's guess.

Ruled out until September 1st.

I think it depends on his attitude. That could work if you are confident he'll be 100% committed for the season. But often all you'll get is a so so season from the player and more disruption.

Other complication is that if Barca don't get Coutinho now they'll look for someone else. His dream move might not be available to him in 12 months time.

For me, I'd look to move an uncommitted player on every time.
Perhaps. But they are still professionals in a world cup year. I think Cout would come back and play as hard as he possibly could.

But yeah there is no way of knowing if he will or not. So it's a risk. But selling him now with absolutely no replacement is even more stupid.

We lose nothing if we dont sell. Cos even if he doesnt commit and doesnt play well, we can just drop him.

You can only move a player on if he has been replaced. We'll look to sign a replacement but that may prove difficult in the remainder of the window. If we can't he stays and puts his best foot forward so Barca come back for him in a years time. It really is as simple as that.
Yeah I think a big indicator on whether we will sell him is if we bring in a CM/AM/10 in the next two weeks. Cant see it happening.

VVD and Keita would be great but neither is a direct Coutinho replacement. We definitely need that type of player. Someone to pull the strings in midfield like Cout does. Would be utter stupidity if we sold and didnt buy a similar and no doubt inferior player.

Got a feeling Ox will be good at Chelsea.
Ox is quite good now tbf. Wenger isn't the benchmark for transforming and improving players by any means, but he has certainly done so with Ox since that switch to RWB late last season.

Why are you getting rid? Is he running his contract down or agitating for a move?

By all reports he wants more time at CM, which we aren't giving him, and is therefore agitating for a move. He has one year left which works in his favour.

A bit odd considering RWB is clearly his best position, and he's starting & playing well at Arsenal. Maybe Conte has promised him CM time - although with Bakayoko signed where would he fit?

He won't get much time in CM with us so it doesn't really make sense. He'd be bought as a wingback to compete with Moses. CM for emergencies only as we will have Baka, Kante and Cesc.

Will Wenger even sell him to us?

You should be spewing there is no sell on clause!!!!
There is no way known he could have possibly envisaged that he'd end up being sold for more.
Probably just happy to remove his sorry arse, I think he was in the group of bad apples too so getting him out was paramount.

Hahaha
