Release clause is £48m. Ian Joyce of The Times is reporting the premium is just £3m, taking the total fee to £51m. Excellent value in this market if true.

Salah, Wijnaldum, Mané, Keita, Lemar(?). All extremely mobile, aggressive, hard working, skillful players. Really great to see this continuing trend of signing players who clearly fit the system and style the manager wants to play. It was sorely lacking in the early half of this decade but it looks as though lessons were learnt. This is how you go about building a squad capable of winning titles.

I still think we're short in midfield this season if we go 1:1 selling Coutinho and replacing him with Lemar (with Keita 12 months away). That would be 5 players for 3 midfield spots, plus Milner/youth players if we're desperate. Not enough for me and would see a couple of injuries really stretch us.

A 12 month loan for a box-to-box midfielder in the interim until Keita arrives, plus Lemar, and the club will probably sell Coutinho. If that doesn't happen I think it's unlikely we let him go.

He was a gobshite, and has a face that you would never tire of punching. But he did have a good season there. Not great the other two (or three?) but he was the best thing for Liverpool before the last messiah as well.
