Apparently Arsenal didn't want to sell to us, so we waited for Chelsea to make an offer for Chamberlain and then matched it, leaving them with no choice but to accept. Smart.

Spending £35m on him with 1 year left on his contract still seems excessive to me though, but if it doesn't preclude us from signing our other top targets I'm not too fussed. We'll see.

We're potentially putting together a seriously strong and balanced looking squad. Van Dijk is still the critical one for me.

Mané Firmino Salah
Coutinho Keita
Henderson
Milner VVD Matip Clyne
Mignolet

AOC Sturridge Lemar
Lallana Wijnaldum
Can
Robertson Lovren Gomez TAA
Karius

+ Klavan, Grujic, Ings, Solanke

You can't put AOC out wide - that's a travesty!

I'm hearing Cout is done to Barca as well. Just waiting for Pool to wrap up stuff before announcing. Can you confirm?

Won't happen now unless Lemar happens. Couple of rumours that a deal has been done for £140m on July 1 2018.

Once Chelsea made an offer that was accepted by Arsenal, they set the price for him.

It then became £35m now or £0 in 12 months.
If they didnt want to sell to Liverpool they could have just said no. Doesnt really matter what bids they've accepted from anyone else.

With all due respect to AOC he sure isn't the sort of player that can make demands about what position he plays.
That's the reason he wanted out of Arsenal haha.

You think Arsenal of all clubs would actually consider flushing £35m down the toilet for 12 months of Oxlade-Chamberlain?

Their preference was for him to go to Chelsea, and that's who they were primarily negotiating with over price by all accounts. Once Chelsea had done the leg work to set the fee, all we had to do was match it. Once that happened, there was no way that realistically Arsenal were going to turn it down.

Isn't that why he's going to you guys?

Nobody chooses what position they play under Klopp. If he's required to fill in at full back he'll have to do it. He obviously won't be getting much time in attacking positions. Wil be used as squad depth in CM primarily.

If that was true, he may as well have just gone to Chelsea on much, much bigger wages.

Someone at Liverpool (presumably Jurgen) has told him what he wanted to hear.

No. But I don't think they ever had any problem selling to Liverpool.

Klopp won't be dictated to by any player. Has presumably been told he'll get a go when required at CM. There will be plenty of opportunities this season with the amount of games we have. Klopp will also expect him to fill in other areas of the pitch if need be.

Yeahhhhh, that's the reason he wouldn't sign an extension at Arsenal or sign a contract with Chelsea.

But I'm sure he's all of a sudden fine with it, because Jurgen.

Yeahhhh. Klopp demands versatility from his players. That's really going to change for the sake of AOC. I don't see Klopp changing his philosophy to suit AOC of all players.

I think he'll be playing more than you think. £40m fee in the last year of a contract, 6 year deal and £120k a week with promises of a CM position.

Seems a lot for squad depth.

Well you continue to live in hope :)

Unfortunately that's what squad players are going for these days in this market.

Jonny Evans is likely to go for £30m with 100k wages. Compared to that AOC seems totally reasonable.

Home grown also adds a premium.
